Marine Surprises Stepdaughter With Adoption Papers

  • A doting Marine left his stepdaughter speechless when he surprised her with adoption papers that were hidden in her sports team's backpack. Ariane Yocum, 12, thought she was receiving a new travel bag from the volleyball team she plays for when stepdad Drew Yocum, 32, presented it to her in the family's Palm Harbor, Florida, home. But as the emotional video shows, following some initial rummaging inside the backpack, Ariane began pulling out the items, like kneepads, which she assumed were associated with her team. Then, however, a perplexed Ariane pulled out a piece of paper that was tucked in one of the pockets and, on further inspection, the speechless 12-year-old turned open-mouthed to Drew and simply said, "Adopted?!" Drew said he has always felt like a father to Ariane, known as Ari, having raised her since she was a 2-year-old. The loving stepfather joined the Marine Corps in 2010 and married Ariane's mother, Ashley, 33, after completing boot camp. Since then, he has not only been Ariane's stepfather but also her volleyball and basketball coach since she was 5 - and so a backpack of sporting gifts seemed like a rather normal present for young Ariane ahead of the big reveal. Drew said he struggled to hold back the tears during his October 24 surprise. Mom Ashley admitted that she and Drew have struggled to have children of their own following a series of miscarriages and so, to Drew, Ariane is his, no matter what the blood.

This is so boring, having a family, doing the same as everybody else, so selfish, instead of being selfless and helping humanity, by fighting climate change for instance, nothing is more important than that, I have no respect for people doing the “normal” thing, cause the world wasn’t changed by people who did the same as everyone else.

@@KyoFanDuB The term "young lady" is literally used all over the world by adults to refer to younger women AND girls.
It is either used when the girl did something that the adult disliked, like using bad language: "Mind your language, young lady!" Or it is used when a girl displays attributes one would associate with a lady, like grace, good manners and so on.
Seriously, this is even used the same way in other languages. In German for example one may say "Mein liebes Fräulein, das will ich nicht noch einmal sehen!" Which basically translates to "My dear miss/ my dear young lady, I don't want to see that again!". Whichc an be said in response to some action a young girl took the parent doesn't want the young girl to take again.
Or in a positive way one may say "Sie sieht in diesem Kleid aus wie ein kleines Fräulein", which translates to "She looks like a small young lady in her dress". Which may be said when a little girl behaves very lady-like while wearing a dress.
So no, I don't think she isn't "close enough being a young lady", because being called a young lady doesn't have an age restriction. It only matters that the person is considered young.

Love that she didn’t break down. She’s genuinely excited and elated, that’s for certain, but she also projects confidence in a way that shows you that she is completely secure in her dad’s love for her, she doesn’t doubt it for a minute and hasn’t ever, she already sees him as her dad and doesn’t question that view. She doesn’t take him for granted, but she knows he’s her dad and is secure in that knowledge, so this surprise to her is a thrill; no tears, just joy. The fact that he managed to give her such confidence in his love and commitment that she never once needed reassurance speaks to an amazing knack for parenting.
