As a father to 2 daughters, I understand your dad's devotion to helping you. what a blessing for you. My skills are wood flooring and all kids have been helped. I love the fine woodworking and Aladino's attention to detail.

Did almost exactly the same thing when replacing the engine in my sailboat, i lenghtened the engine bed, landed the engine and just slided it into it’s final position. For measuring the new engine beds i made a dummy of the engine from plywood to be able to figure out where the propellor shaft would be in relation to the new engine.

I'm missing Maya playing her fiddle.
I'm a part of a small fiddle group on a Small island in Denmark, we have our own folk music and dance and we also have a "sister" island which is Cape Breton in Canada. We travel there some times, and last week we had 5 very talented musicians from Cape Breton visiting us. I talked a bit about your channel with my group and which the guys from Cape Breton and we would love to hear you play some Cape Breton tunes if you know any.
    Keep up your fantastic work

This reminds me of wondering whether my new washing machine would fit through a tight basement entrance with a right-angle doorway off a narrow hallway. Exactly the same technique I used, make a cardboard template of the dimensions. It fit, tightly. Yay!

Re dropping an engine through the companionway: My father was a custom boatbuilder in the Toronto, Ontario, Canada area. I sure can relate with your challenges. Even with a new build we had to manipulate the engine through similar contortions; although, we didn’t have to worry about the finished trim around the companionway as much.

I've already agreed with a few others here, but I am really impressed with the motor mockup, which makes perfect sense to me. Good planning on the procedure for dropping the motor before actually getting surprised by the actual, very heavy motor, and then trying to figure its entry mode. Excellence from beginning to end. I love it so much!! Be safe from the Phillippines always.

Love the problem solving to get the engine on board through that hatch. Very intuitive thinking with all the actions that need to take place. Should go smoothly butt I'd bolt to the tranny and drop it straight down in one move . Then settle it below and orient it on your skid rails. I even lubed the skids once to move an 800# unit. Even better is thin metal plates on top of the skid rail and it runs almost by itself to your mounting spot. Looking forward to your next video as usual. Us arm chair engineers and mechanics are cheering your efforts on.

Having done this exact maneuver on my boat, it’s far simpler to just unbolt the transmission and flange from the flywheel housing and bring the transmission on board first, then hoist the engine. This way you don’t have to mess with tilting the engine and makes the lift simpler and safer.

Watching Brian painstakingly making an accurate and quite rigid cardboard facsimile of the engine reminded me of one I did to confirm bring out a large cabinet I'd plan to build in the basement shop of my former home. Unlike Brian's, mine wasn't rigid enough and flexed just enough to give me erroneous confidence in my ability to easily bring the completed cabinet out of the shop via the staircase with its 90 degree turn at the top. The cabinet was able... just barely and with a lot of shoving denting of the drywall (and yes more than a few choice words...) as it exited the basement. Good job, Brian! You're a wiser man than I!

I have been trouble shooting and fixing problems for 40 years. I think your viewers can handle a few cuss words in a nod to authenticity in keeping with the finest naval work traditions. After all, it is a well known fact that steps one and two of any boat project is first to cuss at the problem followed shortly thereafter by giving it a good whack. Real pros can do both in one move. It is only after these two steps have been accomplished that thinking, problem solving, and solutions are to be had. LOL

I would consider a large U shape lifting attachment particularly for lifting the engine onto the mounts. Also, removing the hatch, as mentioned below, and adding protecting rubbing strips all around the surfaces in the vicinity, that will prevent the dings that a heavy engine would inflict on the mahogany, and make the lowering less stressful and swifter.

You have to put the blue tape around the edges to prevent any scratch.

I saw a comment about removing hatch door, good suggestion. I can't see the unit but if you can remove the transmission you would reduce weight to shift and tilt needed. Just put it in first and bolt it back on inside. A few minutes work could save lots of adult language! Good luck.
