CLARIFICATION: Many questions are received regarding the wing fracture. The patient was euthanized due to the nature of the injuries. Aside from the oblique fracture of the left humerus, a complete tendon rupture in combination with aged extensive damage to the muscle tissue was found. Treating this injury would be impossible. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and The Swedish Animal Welfare Act prohibits wild animals from being permanently placed in captivity, in wildlife parks, educational centers etc. Amputation is not allowed and would be an illegal act in Sweden. - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Such a beautiful tribute to the people that rescued the eaglets. I was moved to tears. Thank You for saving them, raising them and releasing them to live their best eagle life. 🙏🙏

I expected this to be interesting, but this video is so much more than that. Caring people faced the tough decision to euthanize an injured eagle, only to realize they've put down the father of 2 chicks who still need him to bring them food. That started my tears flowing. Then that same group of people did such an amazing job rescuing & rearing the young eagles to adulthood, setting them free in the end- not keeping them at a zoo or aviary for the rest of their lives. Well done you wonderful people!! I never expected to be so emotional from watching this video, but it really tugged at my heart. Watching those amazing creatures fly free to their new lives made my own spirit soar! Thank you for sharing this video. And many blessings to all who do good works like this.

I cried several times! So beautiful and moving.
It's great that they were able to be released but, life in a decent aviary, on display to the public, is an whole lot better than a needle with poison. You can't defend that with that BS about them being " wild creatures". Your choice would make them dead wild creatures.

Eagles mate "for life" when one parent dies when the other has little ones, the other parent needs help from humans. This is exactly the type of project that I participated in over the summer last year. I have gratitude when I see that Eagles are protected in other countries as well as America. God bless your work.

@@yesterdayschunda1760 Since I have only lived in America, but I have visited other countries, I really didn't know much about how other countries viewed the Bald Eagle. Here, the Great American Bald Eagle is a revered bird of prey and they have had some rough times of near extinction for a variety of reasons. I just don't want to see extinction in any of God's creatures, because it becomes a disgrace for human beings as well.
My heart hurts for the poor eaglets mother. She lost her entire family within 48 hours.

My heart broke for the dad to be euthanized. I thought they could be rehabbed like my parrot but I guess not. What a hard decision. So happy that the eagleletts were spared
My immediate thought was to supplement the nest with rabbits and such, so mom could raise her babies. I suppose that required unsatisfactory levels of tree climbing and possible habituation?

The police chief made the perfect choice when he decided to save the babies and allowed the rehab to try and raise them. And, raise them they did! Such an amazing and thoughtful job was done by the rehab personnel. Bravo to everyone who was involved in the eaglet rescue. If it were within my power to give you recognition for outstanding job performance, above and beyond, you would receive awards...and, gold stars! A+A+A+

At 4-5 weeks the mother provides as much food as the father. They should have monitored the nest first.

I have seen two eagles unable to fly, given a hill/cliff face made of straw bales, happily breed and produce healthy strong babies for over a decade. They lived in a roofed tennis court on a farm, with a sheltered spot at the top, where they made their nest. Once it was clear they wanted to nest, they were bought the materisls to make a nest.
They were very happy well fed birds and lived happy lives. Their babies were returned to the wild and bred with wild partners.
There was no need for that male to be killed.
Hi Meadow. I agree - they made all the right decisions for the best outcome. The total break in the male's wing suggests that there was more wrong with him than just a broken wing - plenty of raptors get slight fractures, from hitting trees, that heal on their own.

Beautiful story ! Very sad with the dad being euthanised and the chicks starving but what a great decision you made. Wonderful to see them raised together and being released together. Thanks so much for saving them. Hope their mom can find a new mate. It must have been difficult to face her mate disappearing and then her chicks being taken :(
Thankfully, the eagles live for the day, so one hopes the mother's distress was short lived. It would be interesting to know whether she found a new companion!
The mom will find a new mate and she will have new eaglets. Circle of life. Don't worry!
Most raptors mate for life. I'm fairly certain that the female is a casualty of the male eagle's demise.
The alternative was to leave the chicks with their mom who wouldn't have fed them. It'd be more traumatic for the mum to watch her chick's starve as she instinctively waits for her mate to return.

What beautiful Eagles! The people that took care of the Eaglets are as awesome like the Eagles.
Several years ago the male bald eagle of a pair nesting in Decorah, Iowa, unexpectedly disappeared and was presumed dead. The nest had two or three very young eaglets. The female did a splendid job raising them herself. It helped the nest was near a fish hatchery that kept a stocked retention pond within eyeshot of the eagle nest - a tactic I assume to keep the eagles away from the fish tanks in the hatchery. But the female raised them and the clutch all fledged. Perhaps it is different with other species of eagles that the female will not hunt if the male is no longer around to provide food for the eaglets.
Hi, I believe there might be a problem with some other eagle species - in some breeds, the male is unable to tear the food into little pieces and feed the chicks, so his job is just that of the hunter (I guess it should be OK to bring whole prey at a later stage, when the chicks can self feed). Feeding matters rest entirely with the female. I have just read that female White Tailed Eagles start to join hunts for food 28 days after the chicks hatch. Mum Decorah did an exceptional job at raising her three eaglets single handed. She would also sometimes return to the nest with more than one fish in order to cut her trips for fishing short! Wasn't there a male who started offering help. shortly after Dad Decorah disappeared (not DM2, before him)?
@@Luceforall Yes, eagles kinds must differ between them. The Bald Eagle parents do all that together and I remember the Decorah, Iowa, Mom who raised the 3 eaglets by herself, and had a new mate the following season, and the fish hatchery made that possible! I live in Stockholm and I was tickled to come across this story right in my neighborhood of the lives of the WTE, White Tipped eagle or Sea Eagle that we call them. On the American continent they only exist in the very north of Canada. I follow several web cams of Bald Eagle nests in the USA, my favorite kind of eagle, but I don't think there are any of these web cams of eagle nests in Sweden. Please let me know if anyone knows anything different! The world and lives of eagles are incredible to be part of!
@@marielowgren7162 Wonders never cease, on UA-cam! I follow a few live streams myself and publish videos of nest highlights (Bald Eagles and, in Sydney, White-Bellied Sea Eagles). If I come across anything, I will certainly let you know! An organisation called Streambird Pro has live cams on White-Tailed eagle nests in Smola, Norway :)
I doubt there's much of a difference in the parenting styles of bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) and white-tailed eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla, which is what these Swedish eagles are). The two species are very closely related to each other (DNA studies confirm that they are each other's closest relatives, and there is less genetic difference between them than exists within many species). The problem is that hunting for food usually takes a lot of time and energy, and normally is too much for a single parent to both do this and to provide for the other needs of young nestlings. I suspect that the main reason why the Decorah bald eagle mother was successful in raising her eaglets by herself was the stocked fish farm retention pond nearby, providing a constant easily accessed supply of food, which would not have taken her as much time to successfully hunt, as it would have in more usual wild situations.

I can't tell you how much joy this video brought me, even though the story is bittersweet. We hear so many stories about humans being awful to animals, so it restores my faith in humanity to see amazing humans doing incredible things, not because they personally benefit from it, but because they have a passion for protecting wildlife. I am awestruck by these rehabbers and how masterfully they handled the eaglets, from youth to maturity! A million thanks for sharing this story, it really made my day!

The mother will find a new male by next season she'll be rearing his young eaglets. They mate for life but if one dies they will find another suitor. Especially that she has her own nest, unless it's taken over by another pair which she'll then find a male and a new nest.

The staff at this rescue centre are so competent and respectful - no nonsensical "baby talk". They obviously love the natural world truly, with compassion and understanding instead of sentimentality and possessiveness. If only all wildlife rescues could be run this way (I know that some rely on sentiment and the "cuteness" factor to get public funding, but it's so degrading to hear baby talk babbled at beautiful fierce wild creatures.

I watch the Florida nest also but it’s is so sad that long time Harriet has been gone for about a month now. Daddy M15 is doing a good job . A female intruder has shown up which you are aware of. I don’t like her.
Pam Naylor Hi, I just stumbled across this video and immediately thought of M15, and when I read your comment I thought of my gosh, she watches that nest also. Only now we don’t have Harriet, I am amazed how M15 is doing a tremendous job of raising them.
As I am writing this, I haven’t watched the whole video so what happens to the mom without her babies. I have learned from watching all different Eagle nests that they do move on. I do hope M15 does return to use the nest next season.

We have an eagle's nest close to our home. Its the 2nd nest on the same tree.

Wow to see all the things they do for their Eagles, it would be nice if the US were as focused as.these guys are? The babies were so cute it is sad the father was put down for his Pain and injury, but I have learned now that the father provides the mother feeds. I once lived at the water edges of Liberty Lake Washington. I rented a house one year. Beautiful lake and shortly after moving in to my surprise an Eagle hunted the lake for fish. He would fly snatch up a fish and take it to this dead tree of the house next door to me. It was exciting to watch. That following Spring I noticed one day there was a baby eagle flying with now I know to be his father. I watched everyday took pictures and watched.them grow. Then before I knew it some company bought the house next door and the plans were to tear down old house build new house. I talked to one of the guys on the crew and told them you can't take down the old dead tree. There is an Eagle and their child hunting these grounds and rest and eat in this tree. I was told to shove off. I called everyone I could find in the phone book this 90/91 So no computers. By the time I found someone that could stop them from removing the tree, I was too late. So for weeks I searched for them. And found them at the other side .of this lake high in the dead tree. I was glad they were ok same would survive to hunt that lake for ever. These Beautiful Creatures of massive size soar through the air so flightlessly that I still remember the 20 years later. Beautiful and should forever be protected.

What a beautiful outcome for the carers and of course the birds. The size of their beaks are gigantic. 🤐 With all of the help and care that you have given them, they probably have as good a chance of survival as any other pair of sibling Eaglets. We all should take an interest in helping these majestic birds flourish in the remaining habitats that are left for them. This footage was beautiful and I thank the Swedish wildlife authorities and all those who decided to take care of the two Eaglets by saving them. The mother eagle became helpless to save the babies.
However I am sorry for the injured eagle which had been euthanized.

Couldn't fix wing somehow vrs killing the eagle always a diff choice
Such a wonderful, heartwarming story. They raised the babies perfectly and they have a good chance for a good life. So great to see there are people like them in this crazy world.
I have personally witnessed 2 of Australia's largest eagles, both shot by farmers, illegally, with a wing seen at the time, as irrepairable, be quietly taken in by a very different farmer.
He actually put a roof over half his old tennis court, and netted the other half, and built a straw bale hill at the covered end.
The first eagle arrived about a year or 18 months before the second. The second found injured by his neighbour, with wing damage, was offered as a companion to the first eagle.
Not only did the eagles get along, but they courted and began to build a nest, on the top of tje straw bale hill/cliff.
Those birds, written off by experts thought to have been euthanized, raised 2 babies a year, for over a decade. How long it went on, I don't know, because I moved away. The babies learned to start to fly in the protection of the tennis court, then were put out in the mornings, then for the day, then welcomed back, any time they were passing.
It sickens me, that species at risk are so often killed by the rigid bureaucrats that decide that birds that can't fly are worth nothing.
I guess we can be grateful that these same people can't kill human disabled, as easily as they can with their bureaucratic licenses, with animals.
As any person who knows animals will tell you, if an animal is unhappy, under stress, it won't breed.
Those huge non flying eagles lived happy breeding lives and contributed at least 20 perfectly healthy, strong, young eagles to a species under great stress in Australia.
The 'experts' have killed hundreds of non flying eagles who could have happily bred for possibly decades - and your group is doing the same thing. Ignorantly, conceitedly, patronisingly. There is no reason why eagles unable to fly can't be offered partners of opposite sex, also unable to fly, given enclosures and food and the opportunity of living very happy lives, contributing strong healthy young eagles to the country's eagle population.
All they need is a natural diet - that can be found in fresh road kill. No extra killing needed!
I just read of the pompous compassionless decisions made by people who belong with the nutter fas cist PETA idiots, who are employed by bureaucrats SUPPOSEDLY making decisions based on deep knowledge of animal/bird behaviour, and I understand how much danger native animals are in, in the care of their supposed official protectors.
Yours is the only comment that talks about these important matters. I was VERY disgusted to see they euthanized a healthy bird because he couldn't fly. Disgusting.
@@Jaisha26 Most people are unaware that there are possibilities to have these creatures HAPPILY pairbond and raise young each year, that are then released slowly becoming competent hunters. In Australia, sadly, there are always kangaroos hit almost daily, on the roads. If rangers are out and about, they can get a fresh one, cut into chunks, the rest frozen, so the birds get all important fur and bone, as well as meat.
They can also shoot a few feral rabbits. There are also cockatoos and galahs hit by cars, fairly often. Picked up fresh, they supply perfectly suitable natural food.
The initial cost of enclosures the size of tennis courts could be set up with public donation, including the bales of straw to make a cliff/hill. If the hill half is roofed, a little protection set up behind the nest, the birds can be left with a pile of sticks up the top of the 'hill,' so they can organise their nest as easily as possible.
It is quite moving to see how pairs of most animals will continue to try to breed, when they can barely survive.
In these enclosures, birds of prey can still build high nests, still have natural food, and a little man made 'pond' to drink and splash about.
The arrogance of people SUPPOSEDLY really experienced, often claiming to love these species, to then kill an animal just when it needs the kindness, the UNDERSTANDING of it's desire to live and reproduce, just stuns me.
And I never forget that big hearted farmer, who immediately set out to give it a safe home, and eventually found a mate for it, not knowing if it would succeed, but to give it the joy of another of it's own species. And these groups have probably multiple non flying birds of both sexes, EVERY YEAR, that are now KILLED.
And I have to say, THAT break did not look that hard to fix. It was a relatively clean break, not near any joint. I think that bird's wing may have repaired okay.
The worst breaks are involving the joints, so they will fuse. THEY are the wings that probably won't be able to be saved - but the birds can be saved and built breeding enclosures.
So, frankly this is a bloody miserable story where they at least saved the babies.
They could also have taken up pieces of cut up dead native animals, and set up a little pond of water, so female eagle did not have to leave for a few weeks, until babies were much bigger and able to see off most creatures.
I just loathe this 'if it isn't perfect, it's life is valueless,' fascist thinking within these bleak, compassionless bureaucrats. And I hate it most in the management of these groups. Absolutely no challenge to black and white thinking.
So that old farmer contributed at least 20 strong, well fed, wormed, healthy eagles over a decade. Allowed two disabled eagles to live long happy lives - and if he had been caught, he would have been fined and the wildlife rangers would have taken away the eagles and killed them. DESPITE THE CLEAR SUCCESS OF WHAT HE HAD DONE.

I'm in the US (was in a Eagle Group here) and just wanted to say I enjoyed watching you all helping Eaglets to Survive plus I loved the duck getting the blue plastic cut..I'm always telling people to cut all the plastic circles/rings holding soda bottle,that are on milk jugs and other products that are around the tops also when you open them bc of the very reason you had to cut that from the ducks mouth....when ducks, birds, water foul, etc they can get them around mouth plus around their necks then they grow and the plastic ring tightens then they can't eat or it tightens and strangles them...CUT them before disposing/throwing them away PLEASE Save our/your Wildlife💙💙

This was a beautiful story about rescuing the Eaglets. What caring, wonderful, dedicated people who work so hard to rescue and re-habilitate birds. It was inspiring to see the progress of the Eaglets and to finally be released when they were grown.
