  • **Don't worry, this video is NOT entirely a slideshow.** There IS video of the complete process of our farm well restoration. When we bought our homestead the well on the farm side of the property had been dismantled, was abandoned, and completely overgrown. The pump had been cut off and removed. We restored the well with a brand new Goulds J10 twin pipe deep well pump. Then we built a proper insulated well house to go around it. So good to have this big project checked off the list.

Thank you for this comment - it's one of the main reasons (among many) that we moved to the country and bought the farm we did - plenty of opportunities to teach our children how to be self-reliant.

Dude thanks so much for the info. I just admire you so much. I sure pray god gives you a better schedule with work to have more time at home with those beautiful kids and family as a whole. Nice property, for sure. I am the same way actually, yet i do not have kids to teach and help. I have 10- acres and my other half seems to not be much interested. I completely understand the different projects and time fitting it in the schedule. I have a old water well in loustiana that i want to get going again as my garden and plants can’t like the Municipal water from our local government.

Very nice job - also, very clear explanation of everything. Does that light bulb keep everything from freezing all winter long? Where are you, Virginia? I am in New Hampshire so might need a bigger bulb for winter, yes?

Great video. Where are you in the Piedmont Region? Do you mind sharing with me how much your well roof weighs? Also, how did you design it and with what all material? My well house cover weighs almost 100 pounds so I am wanting to reduce the weight or design a new one. Thanks for the help.

James, thanks for the kind words about the video. Unfortunately, the well roof is really heavy. It's lighter now that the pressure treated lumber has dried out some, but it is still very heavy. We probably could have made it smaller and used fewer boards for the "rafters." My bigger concern was insulating it so nothing freezes. Our solution to this problem is going to be buying some heavy duty Bansbach lift supports to help. www.bansbach.com/index.php/en/

Any idea when the well was originally dug and built? And I know the feeling of a longwinded project coming to an end while doing it all yourself (not hiring it out) and I can say it's no small thing. Right on though. Well done... No pun intended. And dick proehnekke Is the man!
