That "tall spot where the boards meet" is called a gable and the metal coming down from the shingles is called a drip edge. You need to prime these fascia boards first. They get beat up by the sun. You need a seperate paint and primer. You CAN prime with the paint you have but i dont think you have a clue how to prime in the first place so ill just say this, three coats instead of two. I do hope you at least paint with two coats. You would use less paint and get a better finish if you fill that wood grain especially the knots in the wood. And used a legit primer.
@chriswatts2096 you should use Primer, a good wood Primer, something that dries nice and hard. If it's old fascia board I would strip to bare wood and allow to dry in the sun, you don't want to put paint on damp spongey wood. The color will be way off. That's what Primer is for, use a good oil Primer and after it dries the surface should feel dense and hard. From there you could lightly sand with 180 if you want, and then paint
