I blamed the flight attendant too on this one. She's the employee and should have a level of courtesy and professionalism. She should have been able to de escalate the situation quick by giving the woman her only option. That was unnecessary and yes people are ignorant but the flight attendant was wrong in my opinion.
What did the flight attendant do wrong?
She shouldn't have been put in a position to de-escalate in the first place. Why do some people feel so entitled to act belligerent and rude in public places. It's just ignorant.

As a former flight attendant, one thing we dont play with is safety, and we dont allow anyone else to play about safety either. If you are asked to leave the plane, you will NOT win that fight lol

On a flight to London out of New York, after take off the passenger in the seat in front of me demanded that he be moved to first class. The stewardess said that that was possible but he would have to pay the difference in price in cash in dollars or Euros and he would then be reseated in first class. Whereupon he started making a threatening and verbal scene so the pilot turned the plane around and we returned to NY. The NYPD boarded the plane and when he refused to leave the police handcuffed and shackled his feet and literally carried him off the plane to the applause of everyone. Later I learned that American laws are much stricter than European and that he is now a felon, faced jail time, heavy fines, and has added his name and passport number to the "no-fly" list.
Admiralty laws apply once embarked, NOT any one country's laws.
Some people simply must choose "the hard way" rather than behaving as adults when they can't get everything their own way.

Every other word was a F-bomb or something crass, and my mom is ex military and retired medical. We laughed about it later and enjoyed our weekend together.

YEP. As a former flight attendant, it IS YOUR DUTY, to get a verbal compliance agreement from all persons seating in the designated emergency exit isle. FAA INSISTS, and if you as a flight attendant who has passed all training and evacuation drills and earned your wings to fly, it is YOU AND YOUR CREW WHO MUST, FOLLOW FAA GUIDELINES.

My oldest is a flight attendant. She is just stunned how ghetto passengers have become. She remains polite while she radios the pilot/copilot to have security meet the plane to take a certain passenger in custody. She just doesn't mess around anymore. Welcome to the "no flight" list aholes.

Many years ago, I was on a plane and just before takeoff, the flight was delayed for over 15 minutes. The reason was one passenger refused to move his seat to the correct position for takeoff. Finally, he complied after one of the cockpit staff intervened. I thought it was an older guy, but when we landed, he appeared to be about 20. That is when I really became upset as that jerk held the entire flight up because of his stupidity. I tried to get off the plane ASAP as I desired to have a few "words" with him. Luckily for him, he was well forward, and my seat was way in the back, so I never caught up to him. So thoughtless people are nothing new, but this is behavior is getting so old.
Remember when suits, ties & nice dresses were worn on planes? This chaos is just one example of societal disentergration.

I agree with not wearing nasty buttcrack shorts so other passengers have to get that in their faces, or gaping tanktops and open shoes with smelly armpits and feet stinking up the cabin, but a suit, tie and dress shoes is going to literally cut off your circulation

I wouldn't go that far. She was in an emergency row and flight attendants had to get her consent by law to operate the emergency door. Obviously this lady has done this before in other places and gotten away with her belligerence. She makes a scene and gets her way. The airline couldn't legally let her do it.

FWIW- Older latinas in Latin America are notorious for sitting in someone else’s seat and acting like the other person should just sit somewhere else. It doesn’t matter if it’s Karen, Carmen, or Keisha, the sense of entitlement comes from not being held fully responsible for their behavior due to their gender. Anyone seeing this woman’s behavior knows she has gotten her way with bad behavior long before this and that’s why her natural reaction was to double down instead of immediately apologizing and complying.

Lack of intelligence is a very serious challenge.
I have reduced mobility due to injuries in my legs. I got a seat at an emergency exit row. I told a flight attendant about the reduced mobility, and I got another seat. I told the truth, and I accepted the other seat without any discussion. Passengers sitting at an emergency exit row must be capable of assisting in an evacuation in the event of an emergency.
Just nasty and difficult for no reason. Holding up everyone with foolishness. Clearly, she thought she was the main character in her own feature film.

As soon as any member of the crew announces that a passenger has to get off the plane, the passenger is getting off of the plane. How simple or complicated that happens is completely up to the passenger. Had she walked off before the police came, she would have been allowed to rebook for a later flight and she could make arrangements for her grandson. Once the police have to deplane the aircraft and put cuffs on, they're going to jail. You see this play out all the time on these videos. Don't people learn!
I doubt the fool understood she was messing with federal law, not just some random airline policy. I just hope the airline permanently banned her. I strongly believe there should be a "national ban" list for oxygen thieves like this one. There is no "right to fly" and there should be consequences for this kind of behavior.

Things went down hill starting with Covid-19 and has not really gotten better. But on the bright side, it is a wakeup call for others of what not to do on a commercial aircraft. Flight crews are no longer putting up with bad behavior that endangers the safety of the flight.

I was once asked to move out of the emergency exit seats on a flight from Albany to Orlando I was a 39 yo male 185# 6'0" level 3 AEMT and part of the NM State Underground Mine Rescue Team. They asked, and I moved quickly and quietly.

It's the lack of respect and no shame at all
they seemed to "enjoy" that they were able to give orders or be in charge. It backfired cause it was a safety issue and they acted inappropriately when YOU can't have that on an airplane. Crews first duty is safety. Their attitude could prove to be detrimental in an air emergency and that's why they had to go. THEY proved to be a potential problem. It's a private company and they CAN legally ask you to leave. It's like a store has a right to refuse service, same thing. If they were BETTY, I'd have wanted the same thing.

Well, I agree with the sentiments stated in the voice-over, that is, except for the quickly spoken term "senior citizen". (8:50). I don't think the person's age demographic was responsible for her actions.

I had to double check. When you purchase your ticket to fly and you select the exit row seat, it clearly states that you must be able to follow directions and help others off the flight.
This woman is way too old to act like she’s 12. My 12 year old son has more common sense than this lady. People like her are extremely selfish and a risk to society. She got what she wanted… attention. Too bad it was at the expense of the other passengers.

I've flown in many exit row seats. I know the instructions, and I know that each individual has to look at the FA and verbally answer 'yes' when they ask if you are able and willing to assist in an emergency. That's all she had to do, but apparently, that's too much to ask of some people...
