in 1985 I found a fotocopy of Best Karate book by Masatoshi Nakayama .It was difficult because it happened inside of Soviet Union. It was 1 year as karate come be out of low in this country. Don’t think they included any Waseda University Karateka, who under the influence of Gigo Funakoshi and Mr. Egami, developed a more relaxed and less rigid interpretation of Shotokan. It would have been nice to see them compared and contrasted in this time period. This is the period when Karate put down roots in the US as Mr. Ohshima started teaching Karate at Cal Tech at the same time as he was studying economics there. Previously, groups of Karateka had toured US military bases giving demonstrations.

That looks like a young Nishiyama Sensei. 💪 He was captain of TakuDai when Kanazawa Sensei joined the university as freshman. Great to have this footage. I'd never seen it with the Japanese audio track before. I assume they sent these around the world on film 📽️ to promote Karate in the 50- 60s
