The basics they're running are exactly the same as I learned in Tang Soo do. You can definitely see the influence of the Japanese Arts in Tang Soo do.

in 1985 I found a fotocopy of Best Karate book by Masatoshi Nakayama .It was difficult because it happened inside of Soviet Union. It was 1 year as karate come be out of low in this country. From 1984 to 1990 karate was illegal in USSR.But we was training inspite for everything. Hi from Ukraine. OSS !

Would love to see this run through these modern A.I. filters and see what it looks like with extrapolated frames and assumed colours

Kanazawa 's knuckles came through his skin, after makawara session...came back with bandage, was asked to remove it and resume training!

Aye they did many things at TakuDai which are questionable by today's standards (plus the beating of student to death for trying to Leave the club).
As recent Sensei have said... Broken skins and knuckles... Might get Tetanus from it.😢
      💪
Amazing Golden Age footage though where Nakayama et al created what we see in Modern Shotokan

Nihon Karate-ka: We must be precise, fast and be synchronous displays of perfect motions.
Ryukyuu Karate-ka: Uh? Ano... Fuck that, just hit hard, in da face. Sweep the leg and dont forgot to re-stomp the groin.

Is a thing of sport karate vs self defense AKA "Karate" long time gone in these times. Plus the macho man combat sports called MMA; where no one of these guys will arrive to longevity.

I’ve seen most, if not all, of this video before. Don’t think they included any Waseda University Karateka, who under the influence of Gigo Funakoshi and Mr. Egami, developed a more relaxed and less rigid interpretation of Shotokan. It would have been nice to see them compared and contrasted in this time period. This is the period when Karate put down roots in the US as Mr. Ohshima started teaching Karate at Cal Tech at the same time as he was studying economics there. Previously, groups of Karateka had toured US military bases giving demonstrations.

2:42 That guy will mess you up. I heard him saying multiple styles at the beginning, jui-jitsu was he refering to Japan being the nation that birthed these styles or was ancient Karate utilizing mutiple techniques and they eventually branched off?

That looks like a young Nishiyama Sensei.
💪 He was captain of TakuDai when Kanazawa Sensei joined the university as freshman. Great to have this footage.
I'd never seen it with the Japanese audio track before.
I assume they sent these around the world on film 📽️ to promote Karate in the 50- 60s
