Just want to thank the Sensi guys for the games over the years, I was lucky to be around from the beginning to play from the C64 through the Amiga at the time of release with my favourite all time games being Wizball, Microprose Soccer, Cannon Fodder and SWOS. A special mention goes to Paralax which blew me away at the time! A great video and loved the interviews. You have a subscriber!
Perfect video Pete really chuffed for you, the editing bang on with the taking .. Stoo and Jon was amazing especially Stoo so much Energy in he’s voice Well done
Wanted to sit down and dedicate proper time to watch this and so glad I did. A brilliant watch, so well put together and entertaining. What amazing games and chat, really awesome bro 👍
Even though I was never into Sensible Software games, the documentary was very, very interesting and kept me watching all the way until the end. As usual, an excellent work in every aspect, Pete.
Love these dev deep dives I think they deserve more views. Like cannon fodder was a huge part of my childhood. I never actually knew that Jools and Stoo were real people. I wonder if Jops and RJ are real too
@@onaretrotip wow thats so cool. I know there are hundreds of names in cannon fodder, those are just the ones that I remember off the top of my head. I wonder how many others are real names
Thank you for this video. Utterly fascinating stuff - Sensible Software was and always will be one of the greatest game developers to have existed, with so many immortal classics on the Amiga. Also: so strange to hear Stoo & co speaking on the video. Loads of (heartbreaking) memories of trying to keep him, Jools, Jops and the lot alive through Cannon Fodder. And here they are, as real people.
A lovely trip down memory lane. Many a rainy day in the 90's when we couldn't actually play football were rescued by the replayability of SWOS. When I got my Amiga and played Cannon Fodder and see the team dressed up as various military ranks it dawned on me that this was a small group of young guys only a decade or so older than me making these games. The great thing about their games is they seemed to always value gameplay over graphics and that seemed to get lost during the early 3D era. I feel so lucky to have been an impressionable kid in this era as there was a great independent feel to it before companies starting merging or being bought out. Nowadays I enjoy the gaming scene and there is still great independent games breaking through but the bigger titles seems to have an astronomically long development times between sequels as well as milking it's online content for as much money as possible.
@@onaretrotip What can I say what a fantastic piece of video journalism. I loved it! Was a trip down memory lane in many ways. Cheers for including a plug for my little ol' Design Droid web shop too! Much appreciated.
Some very happy memories of the games. Microprose Soccer C64 was the only football game I ever liked, Parallax was absolutely sublime. Wizball was great, once you had the first power up that gave you more control. I literally hammered Mega-lo-mania on the MD. Only one I contested was Cannon Fodder, tried it on my brother in laws A1200,, liked it, so later picked it up on the Atari Jaguar, the difficulty spikes on the Artic levels killed it for me
I played Mega-lo-Mania to death on the Mega Drive too. Fantastic game. Yeah, I still play Cannon Fodder, but at a certain point it just gets absolutely brutal.
Wonderful video! Absolutely love the insight by the actual devs interspersed with your narration and videos. Really great and a joy to watch. Also, pretty incredible that Sensible Software almost made GTA. Imagine what could have been! (edit: wrote Sensible Soccer instead of Sensible Software, lol. Force of habit)
When that screen was kindly recovered from what I thought was a dead disk, it was quite apparent we missed the boat with that one. If we had made a playable demo, I'm sure it would have got signed, but hey, it just wasn't meant to be - sadly.
Really amazing video Pete and fantastic to get the guys on board, really amazing work 👌 Guys always gave very open, honest interviews in the games press at the time, very down to earth about things like the ST hardware, game sales, MD Soundchip etc, but this was something else.
Many Friday nights throughout the 90s smoking weed playing Sensi Soccer leagues with old buddy's in UK. Saturday was Match Of The Day highlights...then playing Sensi Soccer till the wee hours. Cannon Fodder was also awesome and very entertaining.
Sensible Software were legendry, its a shame they didn't survive the 3D era - but it did come very suddenly and very hard especially once Doom was released in '93. Sociable Soccer looks great! Cannon Fodder #1 was my number one "goto" game. Loved playing that on my Amiga. I also had it on PC - and If I remember correctly, the 3x 3.5" floppy disc version didn't contain the "War" song at the start (or certainly not with the lyrics). I was luckily enough to have the CD version on PC too - so I had the full song that I remembered from my Amiga discs. I hope a Sociable Cannon Fodder emerges too - I would literally need a change of underwear if that happened! It would have to be better than the Cannon Fodder 3 mess that's in Steam. Very interesting documentary, especially as a former Amiga (A2000) owner, gamer & programmer myself!
Another beautifully produced piece of work. Absolutely dripping with nostalgia as and some lovely insights 👍 my main takeaway from it however, is that I've been banging on about how Tehkan World Cup was Sensible Soccer before Sensible Soccer, and nobody I've spoken to remembered it. And you, my friend, have managed to justify my decades long argument in the most irrefutable way 👌
Brilliant content here mate. Loved Cannon Fodder on my Amiga 500, but SWOS was just awesome, playing 2 player with my brother back in day, just mint! 😊 Thanks for the memories 👌🏻 Looking forward to Sociable Soccer ⚽️ 😀 👍🏻
