  • I wish you were still here, you magnificent bastard. You are missed and loved by so many and so much. I hope your big, big heart travels at the speed of light as always wherever you are. You brought so much happiness into my life. thank you for that.
And for all those struggling with depression, i'd like to say - don't give up. If you find yourself in that dark place, just hold on and remember that you are loved and you are not alone. And there is always hope.
    Songs:

“Smile my boy... it’s sunrise.” The last words that we as audiences and fans got to hear Robin Williams say. It both really fitting and really tragic.

I used to think selfless people do not exist. That everyone who does good at least gets fulfillment from the smiles they see on other people's faces.
But Robin changed that. He continued to make people laugh, and give the world a thousandfold of what he was taking, even though he felt miserable.
Not growing up in the USA means I haven't seen all his movies by a long shot, but what makes me sad is the loss of a kind of person that is so pure, that we only encounter them a few times in our lifetime.
And just like that, they are gone. And all we have left of them is these memories, and most of all their message, of which it is up to us to keep it alive.

I was thinking about this yesterday. He did get fulfilment from it - he said on numerous occasions that making people laugh and smile was part of the reason that he felt able to go on when he felt depressed.
But - what's wrong with that? People say there's no selfless act, but truly - what is wrong with someone finding joy in offering joy? Someone finding happiness in seeing another person smile? Surely that's what we all want to be striving for - that is what would make the world a better place. There is truly something special in someone committing a 'selfless' act - but really, does it make it any less of a beautiful thing if it makes the giver smile too?

I have never cried more in my life, than I have now, while I am watching this video. It was mostly the part after he says, "I still exist", and I lost it after that. Even though I cried the most during the last couple minutes, the last couple minutes after he says that are my favorite parts. I miss him so much and it pains me to think that he is actually gone. It is still hard for me to process. I am sobbing now as I'm writing this comment and re-watching this video. This was so beautifully made and this was the best tribute I've seen for him. I haven't watched a lot of Robin Williams and his movies. Really, I've only heard quotes and saw the movie where he was the dad and his son killed himself. But just watching this video, it physically affected me. I nearly started crying and I could feel myself rocking back and forth.
My point is, this video is masterfully assembled. Even someone that *doesn't* know much about Robin Williams felt something incredible for this, and that's saying something. Katrin, I've loved your stuff and I've been following you for quite some time now, but this is the best thing you've ever produced. I sincerely hope it earns you a massive increase in your following and this becomes one of your most popular videos.
I wasn't ready to watch this video, and the world was infinitely less ready for the loss of such an incredible man. Wherever he may be now, I hope he has his peace, and I hope he is well. Rest in Peace, Robin Williams. You will be missed, and never forgotten.

I can't explain how great this video is and how much I love it. I even downloaded it in mp3 format and added it on my mobile, everything blends so perfectly, everything is put together so well and it's so emotional and on point (and the third part always wrecks me).
And the way I found it is so random: I was away from youtube for a few years now, wasn't rly active here and started visiting it actively again this July. And then I remembered your blog, as I needed some inspiration for my future videos. As well as that I *so* wanted to see some of your recent works (and old-ish ones too).
And eventually I found this, played it and of course, started crying at some point. Also, for some time I didn't even realise that I happened to found the video somewhere around the exact date when our dear Robin died....what a coincidence/cries some more.
So, don't know what to say abt how good it is, the third part always hits my feelings so hard, first two parts as well and each in its different way/s. it's perfect and done so well.
Love your work and wish you all the best!

Dementia is a cruel batch. Things I've read about his last couple of years are heart-breaking. He literally felt like a burden to his family and that he was worthless when he was becoming unable to remember lines or perform the way he used to. Depression will make you think things like that.
On the contrary, Robin, we loved you even if you never did another movie, ever. The laughter and joy you brought millions of us already was more than enough. You were enough. I'm so sorry your conditions made you ever feel like you weren't. I truly hope wherever you are, your mind is at peace . We miss you 💔❤❤

I often think of Robin Williams. This is such a nice tribute to his work and career. It feels odd that he's gone, but we have our memories and his legacy that will live on in our hearts. He could play so many different characters..funny or serious, and they always struck a chord. He is so missed.

Thank you so much for making this tribute. I cannot EVEN begin to describe what this meant to me.
When he passed away, I remember feeling disappointed that something like this wasn't made then. He brought so much light to the world and many (at least that's what it felt like to me) let his depression cloud that fact which I never understood. So many people forget the struggle it is to remain optimistic and happy, to not let that 'dark place' make you sink down so that sun feels too far away to hold onto. So thank you. Thank you SO much for creating this and sending that message. If anything, Robin Williams has proven the precious value in hope and laughter that I will ALWAYS remember. #touchedbeyondwords

First, this is beautifully done and I thank you for it. Second, what a strange coincidence that you posted this two days ago, when just a day before that, I had this weird resurgence of sadness and nostalgia about Robin Williams. And I just suddenly had this urge to watch Jumanji again (which is on Netflix now, which is great). Must be something in the air, I guess. Anyway, great job with this.

+stephantom I hope you don't mind if I use this space to talk a little about my feelings about Robin Williams? Because I've just been thinking about the whole thing now...
What kills me is the thought that he probably didn't know, and never will now, just how much the world loved him. I mean, I realize that the relationship between an audience and a performer is very abstract and distant and has to involve some conjecture on both sides, but... I feel like the grief and love that people have expressed for him is really genuine and personal.
He played all these roles in so many movies that people grew up with, where he expressed a kind of fatherly, teacherly, universal love for children, and I think he did take up a place in a lot of kids' minds as a kind of eccentric uncle or teacher. But then as time went by, we didn't necessarily think of him very often or follow what he was doing. In my case, I think I kind of forgot how much I loved him as a kid, how funny and awesome he had seemed to me, and the news of his death caused it to all come back to the surface with a force that kind of shocked me. I think it had a similar effect on a lot of people from our generation.
And I don't know if he knew that that kind of child-like love and admiration was there in so many people who'd watched his movies as kids.

    • @kelsy86
      @kelsy86 9 років тому +2

+stephantom i completely agree, i think his death took us all back to our childhoods, that innocent laughter he brought into our lives & our hearts. A laughter that cannot be matched. it was like saying good bye to a part of you, "i didn't want to grow up because everyone that grows up has to die someday" - Hook. He was the Peter Pan of our childhood.

I was in Afghanistan when I found out he died. I saw it on the front of a magazine, after I got back to a place that actually got magazines. He was the reason I wanted to help people. It made me sad like I hadn't felt before. He was the shining example of humanity. Not perfect but, amazing in his imperfections. Just fantasticly human. Every once in a while a light is snuffed out and the world becomes a little darker.

As I posted in other Robin Williams tribute posts before. I got the privilage of having him shake my hand, ask my name then use my name when asking out my day & thanking me for my one & only extra work in his movie Man Of The Year. He took the time to do the same for all the other extra's there. I was so nervous as he got to me. But it was like meeting a lost soulmate. We so need a little Robin in the world right now. . I can imagine what he'd be doing now to make us laugh. In a way I'm glad he isn't around to see the hate, fear & stupidity in the world right now. I feel it would hurt him to much. Bangarang oh captain my captain. See you in Neverland !!
