My 5 year old just heard me listening/ watching this. He says dad I know who that is. I said who is it. Very excitedly he says that's Paul Gilbert. I asked him how he knew that. He said he just knows it because of the sound.
wow , only Paul Gilbert has the gift to say 3 or 4 simple sentences and suddenly bring you to a whole new level of understanding , He's like a fukin 6 string JEDI YOGI master or some shhit ... thanks for this 10/10
Douggiek 9 I’m in awe always of Paul. I’d like to set up a contest to see if he could teach this lumbering old jackass to go from solo ground zero to a halfway decent lumbering old jackass. He’s amazing
Every single person that teaches rock guitar should watch Paul and how he articulates what he is teaching. Not only a master class in playing, but a master class in relaying the technique to the viewer.
There is a video of him explaining how he counts Blue Rondo Ala Turk and it's awesome. That's an unbelievably difficult and technical song but he makes it seem much more simple. That's really what smart people can do though is taking something complicated and put it in terms that anyone can understand.
Paul is absolutely the master at being both teacher and ambassador to rock/metal guitar, and other forms of music as well... while having a great amount of clout from his body of work. He is a treasure too often overlooked.
Man, i dont really play guitar, but i enjoy every single minute watching Paul. All the comments encapsulate it - hes passionate, intelligent, expressive, and a top notch player AND entertainer. And, he seems to have fun. Every. Single. Minute. Such a joy watching and listening to him play. Paul will always be a gold standard for guitar playing.
Paul Gilbert is the greatest of all time. 37 people have no idea. The dude is so proficient yet the most down to earth guy you could ever meet & all he wants to do is share his knowledge. Kuods to Mr. Gilbert!!!
Its amazing how so many guitar journeys start with the blues and progresses to dizzy shred heights and then come all the way back to the blues again. So good how Paul can fade in the ol'3 notes per string stuff and skipping etc with the rootsy gutsy blues rock playing. Its what I loved about Gary Moore and is the same with Paul these days. Two massive influences of mine.
I don’t think there are many Guitarists who are openly sharing their experiences, methods and giving 45min tutorials quite as much as this awesome guy. . Paul Gilbert has been my top favorite Rock Guitarist since first heard Lean Into It, way back in 1992. I absolutely love this Guy for all his endless inspiration. Rock And Roll 💜💜
When confronted in writing class with a writer who had a period of writer's block feeling like he had nothing to say, Jim Morrison said "well why didn't he write about having nothing to write about" - same idea here - nothing to say until you examine why then suddenly you've got something to say - what a guy! ;)
His tone has gotten so much better these past few years. It's great that he still seems to have the same love for guitar as when he first started playing. His lessons are always useful.
@@amado4249 Sorry but he s way better then John Petrucci, Petrucci s playing has not changed or evolved or changed since 2004 and Paul Gilberts playing has constantly changed and evolved since 2005.
@Andrew Elias Not to rain on your parade but Guthrie Govan is like 20 % better but Paul Gilbert is my 2 nd Favorite guitarist. Listened to his Album Silence Followed after a deafening Roar for 50 Times
There is a point where discussing who is "better" simply doesn't really get anywhere because all the great players all have amazing skills. Some may be better with one technique and or style than the other but they are all great. It comes down to who do YOU like more and why. It's no different than artists with paintings. It's a matter of personal taste and when people argue over who is "better" when comparing people at the top of the spectrum they are arguing a moot point.
"Do you really want to work on more than that I wouldn't", the understatement of the whole video. I just lost my entire day to working on this. Fantastic video and it's so Paul Gilbert.
Through basic and simplistic views, analogies and vast “real world” knowledge... The two best at bringing their thoughts to light... Paul and Guthrie. They both are miles beyond most other players, but are so well grounded, humble and human!! When they speak, you really want to listen!!
Paul Gilbert is amazing, always has been. It's awesome that he lived his dream of being famous as a rocker and now he's teaching the things he's perfected. Dr. Paul Gilbert, thank you!
It's been great to watch Paul evolve since I first heard him on a Guitar Player flex disc back in 1987 I think it was. Unreal chops but so much substance to back it up. Even looks more educated now Lol!!! Simply one of the best players, teachers and humans out there!
His hands and thoughts are in total synchronicity. Really mind-blowingly awesome how he says his ideas then plays it on the guitar like it's nothing or second nature, like he's just walking... or breathing.
Watching PG play with that amazing tone and funny faces, makes all my problems and stresses in life just go away...an amazing and legendary guitarist, I can listen to this man play and talk guitar forever.
11:58, I never thought I'd ever see PG do this in a guitar lesson, or in a video of anything ever 😂 .. He sure looks like a really fun guy to hangout with.
Thank you for the wonderful lesson. For years i forgot guitars and solos. Makes me really embarrassed to see you still rocking and passionate. Always was and is my inspiration. Beatuiful!!!!
Love his approach and playing more than ever. His tone here is stunning and that verb is addictive. His lessons donkey years ago on phrasing and jamming over a couple of bars where a revelation and catalyst to me at a crucial age as im sure they were to many.
How does this get thumbs down very underrated player in my opinion he could play the guitar blind folded and still hit the notes is what makes it even more crazy
I'm a late-comer to lead guitar playing, and Paul is one the most motivating teachers to listen to. Every time I think that I've learned enough, I see a Paul video, and I'm like, "Maybe I could push myself to learn and practice a little more technique and theory." Love this guy!
Love this guy. Dave Letterman playing and teaching you intelligent guitar playing. Love striking my strings 'with a reasonable amount of violence'. That alone opened up my playing. And that usually requires a crowbar after years of the same old same old! Thanks Paul! And thank you for your generous genius.
I'm a new PG fan, and I don't think I've ever come across such an all around great guy! Looking very forward to diving into the many videos and albums!
You’re really a great teacher Paul. In college (25+ years ago for me), remember having a bootlegged copy of a GIT clinic you did in the mid 90s and feeling the same. You have just have a really accessible way of presenting material that makes it seem doable. Thanks for all
Loved Paul with RACER X, and MR BIG and his solo work as well. What I particularly admire about Paul's teaching videos, above everything else, is that his approach is very natural, exhibiting a true sense of conviction and admiration for his love of the guitar. There is nothing phony going on, no prideful cockiness or egotistical BS. An extremely talented musician ... one of the best !!
My 5 year old just heard me listening/ watching this. He says dad I know who that is. I said who is it. Very excitedly he says that's Paul Gilbert. I asked him how he knew that. He said he just knows it because of the sound.
Your kid is going to be a musician
That’s cool 👍
A brilliant player, a natural teacher, and a genuinely good human being.
Succinctly stated ! Kudos
My thoughts exactly
An absolutely beautiful person 🙏👌🙏
Paul always makes playing look so easy... and when he's not playing guitar, he looks like the nicest dude ever. Moral: Be more like Paul Gilbert.
I got the nice dude part down, but I'll NEVER come close to playing like Paul, and that makes me a sad, unfulfilled dude-
@@kurtblaicher6162 your setting yourself up for failure.
Agreed
Alex Caminiti can't argue with that!
Workin on it

You can’t fake that kind of enthusiasm, joy, & love for your instrument & music!
Paul...... I love you.
Always clean, Always sharp. Full of feel, Legendary

Douggiek 9 Yeah- in think his fingers can span like 7 frets lol 😂
Never skipped a Paul Gilbert video 👍😃
Master of Masters ...
Man that enthusiasm is contagious.
A great teacher

It’s ALWAYS great to see living guitar legend Paul Gilbert play! Thanks 🙂
You're welcome and indeed it is!
two minute of Paul Gilberts insight is worth better than two hours of anyone else on this particular subject.
Paul ALWAYS shares his knowledge....THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A true teacher :)
Cause he knows we can’t steal it. 🤣

I can't play guitar at all but i like his music
Really like this tone. Pretty smooth and nice verb.
Paul Gilbert, her mother was virtuosity and his father humbleness !
Paul Gilbert is the greatest of all time. 37 people have no idea.
The dude is so proficient yet the most down to earth guy you could ever meet & all he wants to do is share his knowledge.
Kuods to Mr. Gilbert!!!
not taking anything away of how great of a guitar player Paul Gilbert is, but those Wall of Marshalls man...\m/
Paul Gilbert morphing into some sort of rock and roll Eric Johnson is something I had not anticipated, but definitely here for it.
Its amazing how so many guitar journeys start with the blues and progresses to dizzy shred heights and then come all the way back to the blues again. Paul is also ever evolving. His playing is becoming even better, if that's possible.
When confronted in writing class with a writer who had a period of writer's block feeling like he had nothing to say, Jim Morrison said "well why didn't he write about having nothing to write about" - same idea here - nothing to say until you examine why then suddenly you've got something to say - what a guy! ;)
That is the best tone Paul's had for years. Huge, warm yet articulate.
I was thinking the same thing.
Agreed! Glad he's dialed back the gain.
His playing shines through much better.
Agreed! I was thinking I kinda wish Fuzz Universe was recorded with this tone.
Paul just messing around, making stuff up plays better than me on my best 50 days... combined. So awesome to watch.
Man haven't seen anything of Paul for about ten years, It's great to see/hear him again.
Most accessible, tasty, soulful thing I've heard from Paul!
Glad you like our track pleser777, thanks!
I will never click off a video of paul
Wow super phrasing king
Paul's great, thanks for watching!
The melody in those blazing riffs is amazing.
So good to see him play and hear him talk so enthusiastically. He makes everything sound doable!
One of the best guitar players to ever live. Truly legendary
Woww didn't realize he could get old. His playing is better than ever and so is his tone. Wow he aged well.
I second that my friend. Hes a true american legend
Do Hoeijmans you didn’t realize people age?
And that's why Paul Gilbert is one of the all time best.
The funniest man in the business. I see him and the smile is automatical. One of the greatest. And the tone ..... you hear it and you know is Paul.
I saw him in the late 80s doing a radio promotion at a Ken Stanton Music store in Albany, Georgia. He was mindblowing even way back then.
I absolutely love Paul Gilbert's way of teaching. So relatable and expressive.
Paul Gilbert's enthusiasm is infectious
His tone has gotten so much better these past few years. It's great that he still seems to have the same love for guitar as when he first started playing. His lessons are always useful.
Paul is the greatest. A guitar wizard.
Probably the best living guitar player. Just astonishingly good technique.
He's up there! Petrucci, Vai, and a few others are up there too!

Better than ever. I can’t be there only one intensely satisfied by all the melodic jazzy stuff he’s doing
So interesting! True growth.
"Do you really want to work on more than that I wouldn't", the understatement of the whole video. I just lost my entire day to working on this. Fantastic video and it's so Paul Gilbert.

Sick, sick tone. As always. But this one is really special! And the melody & phrasing is, perfect.
It's the mini humbuckers.

One of the great icons of my youth. Paul inspires me to this day. His abilities to play and to also teach are incomparable.
He is guitar legend and he teaching something to me I love that
