    Sorry to hear that the month was filled with so many letdowns. Hopefully September is a banger

    Dang sorry that you had such a rough month! But hey at least you had some 5 and 4 stars in there. Sometimes I wonder if my enjoyment or lack there of a book has to do with the narrator if I do the audio, but sometimes I can just tell a book isn’t for me. Hope you have a better September, Nahla!

      I can usually tell if it's narration or writing style. Some stories are just better with your own voice and others the narrator can make it or break it. But yes hoping Sept is better...

    Oof, that really does sound like a big bummer of a month! Sorry to hear that The Skin was such a let down, I am still cautiously optimistic, but I appreciated hearing your thoughts! I would recommend checking out Sea of Souls by N.C. Scrimgeour for a different story with really good selkie lore!
    Hope September is treating you better 🤞🥰

      Yes Sea of Souls is next on my list for the selkie lore and storyline. I am excited for that one and am hoping that one delivers for me personally😁I am still waiting to get my hands on it and see if I can get it requested from my library first...

      😅Tell me about it!!!
      Name of the Wind is such a solid narrative of storytelling💙

    What a lot of DNFs! Sorry to hear that you reading month wasn't great Nahla. Though good to see you had a couple of 5⭐
    Also really interesting to see that The Book That Wouldn't Burn didn't work for you as have seen so many positive reviews for it that I was starting to wonder if it was flawless 😂

    • @HereThereBeStories
      @HereThereBeStories  Рік тому +1

      Not flawless whatsoever😆plenty of flaws to be had. It works for those that don't mind long driven out plots and repetition of the same concepts... I, however am not one of those people apparently.

    I have only seen praise for Mark Lawrence’s new book so it’s nice to see that it isn’t always a winner. I have read 2 series by him and one was great, the other was terrible. So right now I consider him a hit or miss author for me.

    • @HereThereBeStories

      Which one of his was the winner for you?

    I didn’t have a good reading month either 😩 but a really good super hero book you should check out is Forging Hephaestus by Drew Hayes!

      Hmmm Is it more along the lines of Xmen? Side note, I love Wolverine! 🥰
      Ugh I know girl, August was just not a winning month but I am thankful atleast not everything was a bust...

    For selkies, my friend was always trying to get me to read Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler. I never did read it 😂 I've been interested in The Blue Salt Road, too. One day I will read a selkie story... one day. Maybe. If I remember correctly there is a selkie in Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series but that one may be way outside your reading tastes.

    • @HereThereBeStories

      Oh The Blue Salt Road sounds very interesting and I can tell right away that I would need to read that in the physical form. I think it has illustrations from what a review said as well. Thanks Trin for mentioning that one! The next selkie one I want to try is the Sea of Souls saga...

      @@HereThereBeStories oh yes! I forgot that was selkie, too. I love Nicole! She was the standout for me in SPSFC.

    I'm sad you didn't like Crown of Feathers! But I'm a political fantasy reader so it worked for me. Would have been way better with the Phoenix point of view. Totally agree.

    • @HereThereBeStories
      @HereThereBeStories  Рік тому +1

      The lack of phoenix POV is honestly such a huge missed opportunity and would've made it top notch. I am surprised considering all of our great dragon stories do this...

    Oh no! Sorry it was a bad reading month. Hopefully September will be better. You aren't missing much with Renegades. I read the whole thing and meh. Oh no! The Luminaries is on my TBR. Urban fantasy is hit or miss for me and if it is younger I may not like it. YES! Name of the Wind is fantastic. I have learned I do not love Lisa Jewell. I've read 2 books by her and both just didn't work for me.

    • @HereThereBeStories
      @HereThereBeStories  Рік тому

      I would say The Luminaries would probably be a miss for you. Alot of things just didn't work.
      Name of the Wind was so so good. I want the second book now but I know I am not getting that third one sooo I am kind of dragging it out😅

    Ugh, I am so sorry to hear that This was a bad reading month for you!!! I hope September is going better!!! ❤️🫶💯💕
    I totally agree with your review on the only survivors by Megan Miranda I have read several Megan Miranda books at this point and I have always had a very difficult time connecting to her characters and never find her mysteries to be very interesting or complex. I definitely do not think she is the thriller author for me!!! 😅
    I also really disliked the last word and that twist also made absolutely no sense to me. I do not understand the hype around this book at all!

    • @HereThereBeStories
      @HereThereBeStories  Рік тому +1

      So I think that The Last Word is also for people who like that junk food literature that we spoke of before😆the same group that like Riley Sager I feel like they would enjoy this. Just because its so bonkers that it's like fun chaos for them??? Thats my take...
