I made these for the first time with my two older sisters over thanksgiving break using your recipe. One of my sisters had very big apples (like x2 or x3 the size a regular apple) so we just used those. We had to microwave the apple slices for much longer since the slices were huge. They just perfectly fit in the cupcake tray and still turned out great and delicious. Thank you for sharing this recipe! Will definitely bake these again-hopefully with smaller apples this time.
Thank you. I've always wanted to try making these but never felt I found a set of directions that I could follow. Ran across this video today, decided to give it a try and they turned out really well! My husband and I both like them. Now off to find more of your recipes to try!

Thank you Matt for this simple, easy to learn and very impressive Apple Roses! You make cooking so easy and show me everything step-by-step. All my friends think I am so clever now! ;)
Yes depending on your oven they may take longer to bake. Also it depends on how many you are baking at one time. Yes if you don't want to use a microwave, you can do it in a pot on the stovetop.
You are welcome! You can try it with pie crust dough, and in theory any dough recipe will work but the baking times will be a little different and the results will be different too, since puff pastry has a unique texture and flavor.
Beautiful! Can these be made and baked the day before? If so, would you have to store them in the fridge and then warm up a bit to crisp the dough back up, or would they taste ok cold (or set out till room temperature)?
Thank you! They certainly can be made the day before, but they won't taste nearly as good as freshly made. That is just how it goes with puff pastry style desserts. but you can heat them back up in the oven or air fryer, but definitely don't heat them up in the microwave they will get soggy.
You are welcome! Awesome, glad you tried it and liked it. Just a few days in the fridge, but it is always fresh. You can freeze them as well. Just warm them up in the oven or air fryer.
Yes good load the bowl with ice cream and place a rose in the center, add chocolate syrup over ice cream and some nuts, whip cream have a gorgeous Rose Parade Sundae guess u can tell I live in California. Ha.🌴🌴🌴🌴
Hi Matt, Great video ! I realize it’s 4 years old. I have a few questions. If I make it ahead of time how do I store it ? In the fridge or on counter top? Do I reheat to serve? Can these be refrigerated overnight after baking? What other fruits can I use? Pears, persimmons or peaches? Thank you !
Thank you! You can store it in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days. BUT they will taste better when first made, just like all pastries. Serve them at room temp or you can heat them up if you want them warm, but not too much otherwise they will overbake. Peaches will probably work, pears possibly, they need to be able to hold their shape when thinly sliced like the apples. If the slices are too thick they won't roll up. Hope that helps!
Glad you made them! They are always going to taste best when fresh. You can store them at room temp in an airtight container for a day or two, after that, store them in the fridge for a few more days after that, if they last that long. :) :)
Hi. Thanks for this. The inside layers of pastry did not bake well while outside was fully ready and cooked. It was still soggy in the middle. Anything I should do to fix this problem?
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Hi! Thanks for the reply! Sorry, last question. What's the procedure to be done? Shall I cook apple? Is there a way I can use the oven? Thank you!
@@lifethrough.ourlens Follow the exact same procedure as the video only instead of using the microwave use the stovetop burner. At 2:50 in the video instead of putting the bowl of water and apple slices in the microwave, pour the contents into a pot and heat up the water on the burner. Heat up the water until you see lots of mini bubbles like at 3:01 in the video.
Same day is best. They won't be as good if you make them a day before. :) So if you can, make them the same day. But I recommend doing a trial run and making them a week or two ahead of time, so you have it down, and then you can test a few and see how they are the next day. Good luck!
Nope not nervous at all. I have been doing this many many years. And have been acting and on camera way before I even started doing anything on UA-cam. :)

Hi Deborah, Siri is wrong haha, they are not the same. For these definitely need puff pastry. You can try normal pie dough crust as well, but it won't turn out as well. Or make homemade puff pastry. :) Here is my homemade puff pastry video ua-cam.com/video/5TIgvvas4QI/v-deo.html
It tastes best fresh. Yes it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days. Or left at room temperature for a day. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.
Hi, yes you can make these with uncooked pie dough/crust, but the taste will be different than if you use puff pastry. They will still look similar though.
It won't work as well but you can try it. reduce the temp by about 25F and cook them until the puff pastry is golden brown. You will need holders for them that can fit in your air fryer basket like ramekins or a small muffin pan.
I am not sure, I haven't made these in the microwave before. I always use a traditional oven. If they are getting burnt try lower heat. For example a traditional convection oven should be 30 degrees F lower than the temp on the recipe.
I love how he says what alternatives you can use but also says his reasoning for what he does.

the apples do not spit on the elements, or is that only with a higher temperature?

It tastes best fresh. Yes it can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days. Or left at room temperature for a day. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.
Would using regular piecrust for these make much of a difference?
Yes pie crust tastes different than puff pastry. But you can still use pie crust, they will turn out like mini apple rose pies. So go for it!
