    You're the first smart detectorist, other than me, but I have been telling other hunters about the virtues of including a a good high quality pair of by-pass pruners, and or a long handled pair of branch loppers in their back pack. They come in really handy for trimming briars and cutting small to large roots. Btw, awesome permission and finds.

      Thanks for watching! We’ve all gotten eyes full of dirt when pulling in roots, and it’s not fun 😂

    We used to find tons of nails in the union lines at Antietam. We had the theory that the Confederates put nails in their case shot or even loaded nails in their smooth bores when low on Ammunition that day. No other reason there shouldn't have been that many nails in the middle of a 50 acre field. I may be wrong but it could have been a possibility.

    • @NcDirtHunter
      @NcDirtHunter  5 місяців тому +1

      You may be right. I know they sometimes loaded the shells up with lead bullets.

    I’ve seen other people use electrolysis to clean cannonballs and other iron items. Have you tried electrolysis?

    • @NcDirtHunter
      @NcDirtHunter  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I just started using it. That piece of case shot is gonna be the next thing I do 🤞

    Hey Buddy! I know you talked in a prior video about electrolysis. Have you played with that yet? Also, have you tried an ultrasonic cleaner? I use them a lot for small autoparts and it destroys grease. Might work well for you!

    • @NcDirtHunter
      @NcDirtHunter  5 місяців тому +1

      I’ve used the electrolysis for about a week, and I love it. I’ve not used the ultrasonic cleaners. Not sure how it’d do on thick rust 🤔

    • @mikek7702
      @mikek7702 5 місяців тому +1

      Harbor Freight Tools has them cheap. And good point about the rust. Not sure about that.

      @@mikek7702 I’ve seen people use the ultrasonic cleaners for some coins, but I’ve got iron relics are 80% rust. Gotta love Harbor Freight 😂

    That heavy impacted bullet is nice. We found 2 ring Gardners and Enfields that were perfectly mushroomed. They couldn't be mushroomed more perfectly I always liked digging those. You pretty much know they hit someone when mushroomed like that. Especially where we found them. The round balls would flatten out but those Gardeners and Enfields would mushroom.

      There were no trees in the past during the battle where we detected. Some of yours may have been minis in wood at one time.

    • @NcDirtHunter
      @NcDirtHunter  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I can tell the difference between a bullet that’s hit a tree or the dirt, vs “something else”
