Potato Harvest 2021: In the Field

- Here is some video of field operations during potato harvest 2021.
The tractors first pull windrowers through the field. The two windrowers dig 4 rows of potatoes each and place them on the ground between rows of undug potatoes. The harvester digs 4 rows of potatoes along with the windrowed potatoes for a total of 12 rows at a time being lifted up and loaded into the trucks. We try to handle the potatoes as gently as possible to prevent bruising the potatoes. The trucks side doors fold down so the harvester boom can fill the truck without dropping the potatoes too far. The conveyor chains on the machines are sized to carry the potatoes while letting the dirt fall through.

Thanks. We are not running the newest or fanciest machines out there but it is satisfying to see the results from a years worth of work all coming together during harvest.

We live and farm in the south / central area know as the Magic Valley.
