  • Delirium is a rapid change in mental status. When delirium occurs it can be a frightening experience for caregivers and families. This video was developed to guide families through the initial phases of delirium treatment. This video was developed by Barbara Kamholz, MD during her tenure as a federal employee. She has given me permission to present it here, reproduction requires that appropriate credit be given.

This is an older video, but more relevant than ever. My father just came back from the hospital post Covid with pneumonia and is acting like this.

Me too. This is my mother's second time coming home post Covid with pneumonia. The first couple days home she was talking smiling, eating etc. Now she's barely eating or drinking anything, constipated, I try to give her the usual meds but she's spitting them out half the time. There's lots of in and out of being delirious. The scariest thing ever. Her primary is sending a nurse out tomorrow hopefully. 😮‍💨😰

My partner got delirium 2 weeks ago and she is still recovering at home. It is so scary. She is getting her sleep and taking each day by day. I got her interested in learning to play piano something she wasn't interested in before. I want her back.

I'm so anxious, tired and worn out. My mother just came home from the hospital after her second time catching Covid and trying my best. I wanted to extend her stay in the hospital but he swore you can't keep people in the hospital for being delirious and once she got home she'd bounce back in a few weeks. This first week has been rough.😰😩

You can literally hallucinate objects and beings into existence because what's happening is you're tapping into that pure abstract creative potential of mind. That's exactly what you want. Of course it can be kind of freaky but a delirium is that times a thousand.

From a normal and great sense of humor, working full time still, does cardio at gym, non drinker, non smoker, to the quiet type. 2 hospital admissions, multiple dr.’s, psychiatrists, and the plan is let’s see if a mood pill works in 1-2 months. Such a joke!! Nobody gives 2 craps.
