      same. Thru the power of youtube I learned that I am able to change the oil myself and would destroy my bike in the slightest attempt adjusting the valve clearances.

      shops check the valve clearence , if you are lucky... they have to work fast.
      might meet a good mechanic who does it right, but they are rare,

      Last year, I saw this video and decided it was too hard…but it cost A$750 and the valves were fine lol. This year I came back here and did it myself. A couple a little tight, annoyingly needed 2 of the same size shim &ordered a new shim. Took me most of Friday night to take it apart the first time, but going back in to fit the other shim was way faster. That’s a few hundred bucks I’m happy I saved tbh. Only thing I.ll change for next year is stock up on shims before hand lol. I have the Haynes manual but this video really helped!
      Oh and I.m not buying another bike without first finding out how awful it is to work on lol

    Great video thanks. Everytime I consider buying a new motorcycle I look for a video like this that makes me not buy it. Bike manufacturers do themselves no favours making it so hard to do maintenance.

      Well
      I’ve had the tank and panels off before so I’ve had some practice. Never the less this took me over an hour just to get down to the cylinder, another half an hour to 45 minutes removing the cover and checked the valves themselves plus a hour reassembly and as you can imagine for a non professional like my self you’ve spent 3 hours plus from beginning to end but saved yourself a lot of cash .

    How did you remove the intake rocker shaft (the rear one) with that Givi crash bar in the way? What a complete and utter faff! The CB500x is a lovely little bike but this is really a deal breaker. Shims are a PITA for the home mechanic and I reckon a lot of dealers will just tick the box and take the money rather than do all this work.

    • @bikerdood1100
      @bikerdood1100  2 роки тому

      To be honest having watched other videos it’s pretty much par for the course for modern fuel injected bikes with OHC engines. Some bikes are even harder. Hence my love of Moto Guzzi , Can do a V7 valves with the gas tank still on .As for the Honda it’s just the way it is these days I’m afraid.

      @@crispernator Because the engine in the NC750 is SOHC. If you use screw and locknut on a DOHC engine, which the CB500 has, it will become a very bulky and heavy valve train and make the engine less effective. That's why every DOHC use tappet.
