There's actually a book you can find in the library earlier that discusses the expansion of the universe as part of a "did you know this?" type popular science book, so academics like Y'shtola likely at least knew that the heat death of the universe was one possible end. It's more that that particular really advanced civilization felt like they had tried everything and couldn't avert it that may have been the extra demoralizing part (although given that dynamis is basically FF14's version of dark matter and was used to accelerate the expansion, I see no reason why a dynamis-proficient civilization (the Ea were aether-based) couldn't simply reverse or otherwise slow this expansion.
@@jellyfishjig probably only some researchers with some focus on astral bodies might have an idea of a possible "heat death" without feasible proof, so Y'shtola almost certainly never heard of it, on the other side I think the demoralizing part for the Ea was that they made themselves immortal, so they would inevitably experience the end of the universe without a way to stop it
@@jellyfishjig Another thing to consider here is that the Ea had made themselves immortal at this point, so the knowledge of the heat death of the universe would hit a little harder if you also knew that you would be alive to experience it.

I did it first without much issue with Trust during MSQ (outside of dying once at last % cuz Alphenaud randomly dived into me with his aoe circle at last second). I'm so glad to see someone acknowledge the gradual building of the BGM in Ultima Thule, and with each sacrifice adding layers to the song, nobody will ever convince me that the vocals are being sung by anyone other than G'raha. Have to love the parallel between our chars and Louisoix in the scene at the end of Dead Ends, forcibly teleporting everyone away to stand alone facing down the threat to everything we hold dear. Even moreso as 1.0 survivors following so closely in the actions of the man that guided us in our early days and teleported us away, getting to return the favor by doing the same to save his students and grandchildren.
@@rollwily I had to wait for someone before I could continue and meanwhile looked up the lyrics. This whole scene where he left and then this song was the point where I was actually starting to doubt that we'd get them back like they were. Maybe stalking us like Ghost-Yoda or something, or a temporary return, but not really. That song is so haunting at that moment. I almost cried when I had to get back later to gather stuff with my botanist in this area and heard that song again, even after finishing Endwalker. xD
Well the singer is Jason Charles Miller, who also did Shadowbringers, and more importantly, To the Edge. Which has a very similar feel and thematic. Close in the Distance feels a lot like a continuation to To the Edge. Lyrically the song speaks of the universal "we" the scope of the song is much larger than just any 1 person. But if i had to choose, i'd pick Emet, since he was the one entrusting the future to us.
Because of the way he acts and talks (especially in English), people might forget that Urianger is younger than Thancred. Dude might be in his thirties if the game's timeline has moved forward at all. And if it hasn't, he's still in his late twenties. And he's had so many life or death decisions put on his shoulders by himself and others to save the world (or multiple worlds), more than anyone at that age should have to deal with. The dude REALLY needed the talk we had with him on the moon, and the moment with her parents, especially the hug.
@@DameonStarflame small fun fact, the entire story of FFXIV (apart from time travel shenanigans) plays out in the same year. iirc the only confirmed bit of time skip is the month that passes between ARR and HW

This game broke my whole entire heart and then put it back together again. I never thought I would actually be excited and willing to give Zenos effing Galvus exactly what he wanted.
i always thought he was one of those badass asshole types that anime likes to put out. Someone absurdly skilled and powerful, a walking Natural Disaster, but is just slaughtering thousands on a whim with a bored look on his face. and then he meets us and breaks his blade on our tits, and goes "...ok that's new." Then he finds what he desired most, in us: a challenge, and an ending. He fought us with his power, he fought us with the power of a world-threatening entity, he _lost_ to both, and then acknowledged our strength, acknowledged the unwilling gift we gave to him, and _kills himself_ with a smile on his face. The thing is, he didnt do it to deny us the kill, to deny anyone _anything_ at all, he did it as a Reward for having bested him. To him, the winner survives, the loser dies. He died. and then he didnt stay dead. and then decided "i would change nothing about myself...but i _do_ want to see if they can repeat the victory". All he wanted was death on his terms, which was at the hands of one who could challenge him. But he wanted us _focused_ on him. No distractions, no weakness. Us at our best. Everything terrible he did, from the point of his revival to his end, was to spur us to focusing on him. But he realized, _that wasnt working_ so he changed tactics. He joined us at the end of everything, even giving us time to _save_ everything, so he could have our absolute attention. And he even offered for us to walk away. He was not a good man. Not in the slightest. but he was a simple man, with a simple want. and i feel like, had the Scions save our character, truly understood his motivations, he could have been used for good, for a while. But for a literally flat, two-dimensional character, who ADMITS he is a flat, two-dimensional character; he was very well done.

I love the symbolism of Zenos literally breaking the 4th wall. He is actually talking to the player here, not the WoL. Also, it's pretty obvious that at least one of the writers is a Metal Gear fan.
The climb up with just the twins hit me so fucking hard. It's one of the greatest moments in the game and the solo walk afterwards is the only thing that surpasses it
what I found really cool is that if you keep walking through all the voices without stopping, they never overlap each other and the music track will end right when you reach the top. that whole sequence was perfectly timed for that, and I think that fucks me up even more.
Man I'm happy I'm not the only one who had such reaction to Zenos showing up. I've seen a lot of people being like "meh.. just leave me alone Zenos you stalker".. I was literally screaming when he showed up... I knew he was going to help us since he showed up in Garlemald.
I absolutely despise Zenos. I sure hope he's dead now and we never see him again. Worst character ever. Loved the scene where Alisae ripped him a new one. Also when Meteons space first cracked and the dragon flew in for a second i thought it was Midgardsormr, before realizing it was Shinryu and that was such a dissappointment. Midgardsormr coming back would've been so much cooler. Fuck Zenos.
I was ecstatic I was so dreaming of fighting with guy 1vs1 and they did it. Best ff moments for a true last final boss that has meaning I loved every second of it
What i love so much about the Japanese voice cast is that... Hermes voice is so gentle and soft, especially at the end when he called Meteion's name 😭 I can't help but to be a sobbing mess
I think Hermes' English VA also did an amazing job, honestly everyone in both Japanese and English (i havent heard the other languages) did some of their best work here for sure.
You can see the change of reaction from Meteions as you travel through Ultima Thule, the first encounter was extremely hostile and inhuman, and the last one before the Dead Ends was greatly different, she seems a lot of humanlike, having some anger and disbelief on your stubbornness but at the same time showing her way of "caring." I especially like the moment when Hermes' word crossed with WoL's face.
You'd change your attitude too if someone you argue with on Internet actually showed up to fight you instead of just them threatening you over the Internet. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Even the pope guy went through that at thordan trial after you survived the ultimate attack.
The final scene with Zenos is so good as a Lala. Zenos getting the shit kicked out of him, by something the size of a toddler. Also the version of Answers that plays during Trial 2 is called "Your Answer", which is kind of cool.
Honestly, I can buy a Lalafell fistfighting Zenos very easily because I loved OG Dragonball with Kid Goku. What's REALLY funny is someone who plays a Healer in MSQ doing this fight scene, lol
Lala's are cute but I really hope people who play Lala's don't wanna take the story seriously. Waddling toward Nidhog. The pope looking at you and being scared. Fist-fighting Zenos. If you're a lala the story turns into a comedy.
@@StudioYami I take the story seriously as a Lalafell player, but I guess I just have a good imagination and a sense of immersion that isn't easy to break.
@@StudioYami I normally take stuff seriously as a Lalafell, unless I am in my snowman tank glamour. Then all the shots of my face look like my user pic here. :3 I liked the final fight because I main PLD but I was originally a MNK and keep it leveled as my melee job, so punching felt really good.
They really knew how to hit the feels with this one, I was honestly expecting the twins to get turned into stone at some point. Now there’s no more ascians and no more Crystal Mom. I’m curious if that’s going to take away the blessing of light from the Wol or something. I also wonder if Meteion is actually gone or if she's put herself in the role of observer now. It’s also kind of bittersweet to see Hades, Hythlodeus, Hermès and Venat exiting the stage without a certain “someone” that has to stay behind without them even though that person isn’t the person they knew anymore but at least they got to go knowing that their home was safe.
Considering the "Blessing of Light" was little more than awakening the ancient ability to actively use Aether to peer into the past, paired with a Traveler's Ward (prevention of corruption of one's Aether) and she never truly rescinded it (Middy blasted SOMETHING to bits but we may very well have simply reconstructed the Ward on our own) we probably still have it. Meteion probably isnt dead, and is very likely either just wandering the world and chilling in a way she never got to before (For Hermes' sake) or is traveling the cosmos, likely telling our story, the story of one who faced the sentient End of the Universe and said "bitch please."
@@Xenmaru00 Yeah I know Midgardsomr did break the blessing before but I'm wondering if Hydaelyn's passing is going to make it lose effect. It probably won't but it crossed my mind. Well I hope that means Meteion will show up again then if she is still around.
That's two expansions now where Emet was the thing that broke me. He's joined the ranks of Haurchefant for me. Dude may not have won the war but he sure won my heart. As for Zenos, I'm somehow gonna miss that big dummy. I still fail to wrap it around my head he's Emet's great grandson. Woof.
The moment between Urianger and parents of Moenbryda touches me the most. Thankfully he finally gets this moment after he faced the situation of Moenbryda, Minfilia, and also Crystal Exarch.
I'm sure a lot of Shonen anime end with the "we used up all our supernatural power, so let's end this in a brutal fistfight" trope, but my first introduction to it was s-CRY-ed.
So... we need a third rotation where we summon Alexander as our big primal? Sounds like a plan to me! And two expansions from now, we'll learn to summon Shinryu as a fourth. But instead, Shinryu just taunts us because he's actually Zenos.
The Trust ran a perfect Mothercrystal for me. It seems if you run a tank they don't play well with you, but a dps you just follow their lead. Having Hydaelyn pass on was the least sad thing for me, I just wanted her to rest. She was just a badass that was forced to live through so much, until she felt she could finally put down her burden. Truly rest in peace.
they never run a perfect trust ,be it healer, DPS or tank, they will alway smess up the first mechanics to teach you they wont "die" unless you directly cuase them to die do to action or inaction, but they will mess up 2 mechanics and then go in dialogue "ah, i have to do this"
played WHM in Mothercrystal with a trust. Estinien fails every mechanic like a true floor tank. Several DPS also stacked on me during spreads and killed me. Alphinaud overheals like mad - I glare maged the whole fight pretty much. Trusts are silly, but it was an endearing experience nonetheless hehe
@@GTaichou Alphinaud is a Sage.. his entire job is to overheal kinda... And they only stack on you if you go to the position they are meant to occupy.. thats the shtick, they have assigned positions during ice spreads.. and if you go to one of them you are dead
They don't actually do it perfectly and thought they did it this way deliberately just to show them learning and figuring out the mechanics, they get hit at the start with every mechanic and slowly they start to get good.
It was a pleasure to see this game simply evolve over the years. First coming back from ruin after 1.0, then taking its shaky steps in ARR. HW is when they tried to be daring with the story, willing to make characters seem vulnerable and killable. Then SB improved the acting and cut scene quality tremendously, and so much colour and liveliness was put into the monster and area designs. Finally at the apex, ShB and EW are two parts of a story that ends the series, tying up all those loose ends.
That art is now my computer background. This expac broke me spectacularly. By the time I hit The Walk in Ultima Thule, I could barely see my screen through my tears.
I cried so much doing atiascope. So much pain and yet I felt so happy because even though souls are wiped clean of memories to start anew our bonds with our deceased frienda overcame this. They still remember us and fought for us even after death. Hydaelyn's trial delivered the coup de grace to my shattered heart. She who carried such a burden through all those years. She suffered by herself waiting for us her champion to finally appear. I felt so much guilt in dounting Hydaelyn because she was a primal. 😭😭😭 A poem I made to offer to Venat. In darkness, she writhes in pain. Holding on to what little hope remain. Believing everything is not in vain. For a champion to break her chain.
When Zenos was breaking in to help us, for some reason I thought instead neo exdeath would pop out from the crack and repeatedly shout I AM NEO EXDEATH at meteion.
I was honestly really hoping it would somehow be Midgardsormr and Omega, even if they had no business being there. It would have felt so good to see them show up after Meteion trying to rub their "extinction" in our faces, just for them to be like "we lived, bitch".
RARRY!!! It’s so amazing to see this, both experiencing it for myself while playing and this video as well, the other day marked the 48th month I’m subbed on twitch and I remember first seeing the original job stereotypes video. Everything has come a long way since then, this game, this channel, everything, and it’s amazing to have grown along with both! ^^
Emet only gives you his genuine smile 3 times in the entire arc, and each time I either broke down or shed a tear. His smile alone is enough of a reward because his character is so well-developed and you EARNED each of those smiles. They're rare treasures.
Fun fact: if you talk with Urianger in the end to know their future plans, he suggests that the reason the teleport appeared and took you to safety was Zenos final wish, since the place was made full of dynamis, he knew you still had much to live and he got his wish fullfilled
I don't think he specified Zenos. He said that as a realm of Dynamis it could be responding to the wishes of others. Could be you, or the Scions, or Meteion.
@@scoobiusmaximus9508Personally i think it could'nt be the Scions since they're were really far away inside the ship, Zenos was in the "center" of the Dynamis place with us, and the camera started focussing on him before and after the teleporter falls, i want to believe it was him since there's a big possibility, after all we were his best friend till the end.
@@fellruinn i could see him deciding "this place is not for them to fall. Such a victory should be savored." and half-intentionally desire-constructing a method of our escape.

"I was very confused, I thought she summoned Ifrit" Yes, same xD I hit lvl 90 during the final fight of the dungeon, so when the primals suddenly popped out, it was like...wait is this a mechanic 😂
When I pointed out how cool it was that the summoner primals are there in the final trial, bc. it looks like the ones summoned by the mothercrystal would be helping us, my friend was genuinely surprised. Because he thought this would be exactly what was going on. And then I felt a bit bad for telling that and destroying that idea. ^^;
We all went through the same emotions. Me was bawling over my keyboard as well. Those emotions were too much for us all. This game is the epitome of story telling. We all went through the same hell.
I'm honestly glad i couldn't pick up endwalker right away, i got it a month later. Avoided all spoilers, and by the time i reached ultima there was no one else around. It made the experience way better.

Gonna say it now that scene where you and zenos trade blows looks funny as a Lalafell. Al the other races have impact as lalafells are more like a comedy routine since they don’t technically hit each other with zenos swinging to high or the lalafell just clearly missing it’s honestly kinda funny to watch.
I finally finished Endwalker last week and needed time to recover. Larry, thank you for this compilation, it's a good way to keep it all fresh. Loved how you kept coming up with wild ideas that ended up half true, but honestly that's part of what I love in FFXIV, the fact that sometimes you can see where the story is going, because the story telling is so good.
Hehe, love these super speedy highlights of yours, Larry! I've been following your FF14 content since ARR, and let me say what a pleasure to share this journey with you! Let's keep enjoying this treasure of a game!
I love how in the story the Loporits "fix" the summoning of primals, and thus giving us a legit way to get the real ones as a summoner. Maybe at LV100 we get to summon Demi-Hydaelyn.
I legit have imagined them implementing traits to upgrade summons as new level progression and was trying to think of a primal that has healing aspects to it, thats as cool or cooler than phoenix (to replace it), and I settled on Hydaelyn and now I want it.
It’s interesting seeing this in Japanese because the English VA was SO GOOD this expansion! I’m sure the JP VA was as well but I appreciated being able to turn off subtitles and just watch these cutscenes like a movie. Plus, I love all the regional accents we get to hear in the different areas of the world.
I'm sure the Japanese VAs are great, but I'd hate to miss Sheena Bhattessa's phenomenally soothing voicework as Nidhana. And it's hard for me to disassociate Rene Zagger's sassy uncle portrayal of Emet-Selch.
I played with Japanese voice acting from ARR through shadowbringers, but I'm SO HAPPY that I changed to English for endwalker. Literally every VA was perfect imo. It was so insanely good I don't think I'll ever go back to Japanese for ffxiv

Can't believe that Larry, summoner main that he is, missed that the ship has a head dong to channel the energy it gains from summons.
Interesting observation!
Is that what that was for? It all makes sense now...
Nothing hit me as hard as that Urianger / Parents moment.
I'm normally not an Urianger fan, but the VA's quivering voice in the English dub sold the moment for me. Phenomenal work by Timothy Watson.

The moment she said "The letter written by shaky hands", I was absolutely crushed. That line obliterated my very soul.
That was the moment I started crying. I could hold it in through the whole expansion, but Rachel Atkins broke me like glass. Bless her for her ability to play moms that I fall in love with instantly.
I fucking lost it.

I still can't believe that the Endwalker logo wasn't the moon, it was a thing in Ultima Thule!
Right? They really took us for a ride this time.
it wasn't. the login screen clearly shows that it's the moon
And the Pizza thingy is none other than the Ragnarok itself.
Really Clever.

What's great is for my scholar, I got started as a pugilist. You took away my book... *You shouldn't have done that.*
Fun Fact: The delivery scene actually changes depending on the content you have completed. If you just did the basic MSQ, the cutscene is much shorter, but if you do it all, they'll all show up for you. They've done something similar before, but its a really cool detail to see in a full cutscene.
"Wait, I've changed my mind about how smart the trusts are. I want my trust back." legit laughed my ass off at that.
I played it with my Trust and when I saw how they all dodged the mechanics that are new, it made me sad, bc. I felt like this will be the smoothest run in a long long time. (Which is no surprise, "follow the herd" doesn't work when there is no herd that knows stuff.) :D
All fun and games until Alisae yeets herself away with the stack marker to do a melee combo.
I did it first without much issue with Trust during MSQ (outside of dying once at last % cuz Alphenaud randomly dived into me with his aoe circle at last second).
Then when I got it for trial roulette it was literally not completeable and duration expired from so many fails. It was first time I ever seen a roulette fail that way.
@@AxiamWolfe Hehe... I've never had issues with this but from what I heard Stack Markers are still a bit of a problem with the Trust when they are busy doing something else. Especially with Estiniens though. I hope they fix it.
I can relate.... did it with players first because wanted to do it together with my bf... we wiped and wiped and wiped and people just kept charging at it without thinking. The one and only time I rage quit a duty and screamed at my bf "k bye I'm doing it with trust" Trust was the best choice it went so smooth. Even tho G'raha almost killed me with his spread marker, the poor boy runs away from the boss and there was me being a good healer and trying to get away from the boss letting the PLD have his uptime XD
The absolute panic in chat at the boss repeating the planet attack fucking killed me. I'm glad we have a new MSQ trial to trick sprouts with.
They tricked Savix with it, making him use LB at the ad phase before the first planet attack and it was the most hilarious thing to watch unfold from there.
@@zaolus2507 i think i did the same on accident, and just before the screen went black, someone asked ''who did that?'' x'D idk why my accidental LB mistakes make me laugh so hard
Even better is that you get a free lb3 when you kill the add
I used melee lb3 on it just because it had so much health and I had no idea we’d need the tank one after
I thought I’d doomed the run until we got it back right away
And then everyone had their respective “THAT’S ILLEGAL” when she rewound it
Near wipe in my case. I and the two tanks were the only ones alive. I had to slowcast revive the first since swiftcast was on cooldown, revived the other immediately, party revived just as the screen went black and I'm like "did we wipe?"
I had some DC right before add phase : )
The G'raha fistbump is what broke me. I was holding it together until that and when the fists hit I just had to go sit down and cry for a bit.

Yeah, with a two button rotation that blinds you to mechanics.
@randomguy8196 There was no reason to take away the dots and related mechanics. They would only add to what we have now and make it feel a lot more rounded.
@randomguy8196 If they're going to save summoner they're going to have to make changes lol. This "OMG SO AWESOME" high won't last. People will grow bored, mark my words.
Fight with Zenos just isn't the same without "A TEST OF OUR REFLEXES"
And in Hydalens fight the "Follow your light. Or else fly my children and never look back"
Urianger's shaking hands make me ugly cry immediately every time.
And yet we did not turn into a big WoL-primal, kinda disappointing. But then again we are not risking to become cannon fodder for other Summoners.
I am 1000% with you on G'raha singing, he vanished and the lyrics started and I died.
I liked the first two iterations a lot, hope they release them as soundtracks. Similar to ill mheg with all the fog.

Zenos: "BRUH"
This game broke my whole entire heart and then put it back together again. I never thought I would actually be excited and willing to give Zenos effing Galvus exactly what he wanted.
i always thought he was one of those badass asshole types that anime likes to put out. Someone absurdly skilled and powerful, a walking Natural Disaster, but is just slaughtering thousands on a whim with a bored look on his face. and then he meets us and breaks his blade on our tits, and goes "...ok that's new."
Then he finds what he desired most, in us: a challenge, and an ending.
Props to you. I couldn't after he did the thing in Garlemald. I love my WoL to death. >:T

It’s also kind of bittersweet to see Hades, Hythlodeus, Hermès and Venat exiting the stage without a certain “someone” that has to stay behind without them even though that person isn’t the person they knew anymore but at least they got to go knowing that their home was safe.
well Zenos ATE the mothercrystal, so who knows at this point?

G'Raha and the twins made me cry so damn bad; the story in this expansion was so good man...

Emet tells you to envision the thing to go on, and you pick Elpis. ἐλπίς. Greek for Hope.
you taking screenshots during the cs before the 2nd trial was such a mood. i took SOOO MANY PICS!!! also took alot just throughout endwalker in general. such a good game!
Seeing Urianger finally not only confront Moenbryda’s parents but the fact that they still love him just 😭
You were one of the first content creators I started to watch for FFXIV and 5 years later and through this incredible journey it feels so special to be able to share this experience with everyone else playing. Thank you for all the laughs over the years and I'm so excited to see what FFXIV has in store for us all in the future and where our journey takes us next.
'Enshroud mode? Oh, it'd be really cool if I was Reaper here...'
As someone who went through the MSQ as Reaper, it was fucking awesome.
18:31 "I want my trusts back" - yes, it's easy because you can just stick to them
30:11 loved the walk with everyone we lost and the music
32:39 this reminded me of the opening cutscene of FFVIII
"The Warrior of Light.... Baha Blast" *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* *screenshot* (I think we all did the same xD)
I'm extremely amused at that "I'm gonna raid Lahabrea's house" joke you threw in at the end, well called.
Every time i look back on this story i ugly cry.
It was a beautiful journey
After “That I can’t deny” it was that smile, that damn smile :D
I liked that G'raha was out PLD stand-in when we weren't there.
man, seeing Zenos in that last boss fight was an absolute joy.
And here I am, crying over the ending of Endwalker a SECOND TIME.
This expansion was so beautiful, I have no idea how to even put it into words.
Whatever else may be going on in the world, I'm glad that I was at least around at the right time to be able to experience this wonderful story.
Only thing second time, I've broke down I to tears thinking about it several times
Lalafell got a stands, and small hit box. Trully the strongest race!
Idk how many times I've seen the scene with Urianger and Moenbryda's parents but it actually makes me cry every time
I finally finished Endwalker last week and needed time to recover. Larry, thank you for this compilation, it's a good way to keep it all fresh. Loved how you kept coming up with wild ideas that ended up half true, but honestly that's part of what I love in FFXIV, the fact that sometimes you can see where the story is going, because the story telling is so good.
The trusts may do slow damage, but at least they know mechanics!
I love the scions way too much to don't do everything I can with them
Hehe, love these super speedy highlights of yours, Larry!
The MSQ level they do it at is also immediately before you unlock the true primal summoning too.
@@Skasaha_ Thats what i'm saying xD
I legit have imagined them implementing traits to upgrade summons as new level progression and was trying to think of a primal that has healing aspects to it, thats as cool or cooler than phoenix (to replace it), and I settled on Hydaelyn and now I want it.
@@PokeMultiverse Hydaelyn for phoenix and zodiark to replace bahamut
I usually like the English VA but they fell extremely flat this expansion. Emet doesn't have enough range, they miss the character of hythlodaeus and hermes sounds like a child
I played with JP VA to know about original script. EN VA is good but the script sometimes reduced some interaction in favor of others.
You all forgot Erenville!
6:40 "I thought it was over.... I thought it was over, but it got worse"
yeah that about sums up Endwalker
