I'm a Nissan guy but when I seen this truck 8 years ago I was hooked.... And I now have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma x runner in my drive way since 2014 and love it to hopefully pass it down to my son who loves it as well.
Awesome truck I’ve been wanting this truck for the last 8yrs and finally got one. Pick it up with all the upgrades done so basically I just wash and wax n gas go beautiful truck I love the way it looks and the set up Toyota done an outstanding job with the XR too bad they discontinued these bad boys. But at least I got one and plan to keep this for a lonnnng time. Aloha from Hawaii 🤙🏽
Likewise I am in love the the truck. I got a BIG offer to sell last year and I backed out at the last minute. Absolutely love the truck and could not let go. Get a trailer hitch and the blue Sumo springs. Helps a lot with the chassis stiffness and handling!
Being you’re a Cali you can’t legally do headers unless they are Carb certified. But you can change the gears in the rear end. The gears in the X are a tall 3.13. Gears from a 2.7l 4x2 manual trans are 3.31. These 1st two 3rd members are the same and only work w/ 3.13 or 3.31 gears! The rest of the gears take a different 3rd member but the complete 3rd members can be exchanged. The next step up is from a 2.7l 4x2 auto are 3.58. Next is 4.0l 6 lug 4x4 & 4x2 ALL get 3.73. 2.7l 4x4 get 4.10. Again ALL 3rd members will exchange in any 05-15 Taco. It’s the same 3rd member that came in the 1st Gen Tundras & Sequoias & T-100’s. Just slide the axles out about 6” and pull out the 3rd member. You just need to soak the new Toyota gasket in water before the new 3rd member goes in. Installing lower gear helps performance and believe it or not fuel economy, It did on mine & I went to a 255/50 and 3.58. Plus when towing your truck will love you. Toyota doesn’t gear their trucks for fuel economy or performance they gear then for the EPA! The slower the RPM’s the less emissions a motor produces. Per an Toyota engineer I spoke with at great length! Oh the rear springs and swaybar are specific to the X and are not available on any other Taco. Oh when you wear out the 4.0l after 400,000 miles or so install a nice little LS w/ a Tremec for an E ticket ride!
Thanks for the thorough response. Taka Aono also halfway joked the 6 speed in these trucks bolts up to the ISF v8 so I could have a manual ISF or a ISF powered X Runner lol.
I have 2007 X runner in speedway blue with 135k miles and it’s still going. No major problems and I love driving the Manuel everyday! It’s amazing. So basic but so amazing. I listen to am radio and even though the body is a little beat up, I know my power train is rock solid. Great vehicle, get one if you can.
I have this same truck in this color. Also have the Curt hitch as the Toyota hitch does not fit with the X-brace installed. I have the TRD shifter. It is very fun to drive and handles like a dream. The suspension was engineered by the TRD division and it is great. There was an optional TRD big brake kit but I did not get it. Also available at the dealer was the TRD supercharger for another $4,000. These trucks are going up in value. You didn’t mention but there is more stiffener bracing below the cab on the frame rails. I belong to the X-Runner Facebook group if you are not in there check it out. Yes mine is in Hawaii.
nice ride. love my 06 runner. about your question, the sway bars are that size from factory, including the xbrace in the rear, which is suppose to be where the x in runner comes in. Also, it is not not recommended to tow to much with that version of tacoma, cuz of the way the rear end and trans is geared. It has a tow limit of about 3000lbs.
Thanks for the response. With a full size U haul trailer and a 2300lbs-ish AE86 Corolla, even the U haul guy was surprised the truck gets by. We are aware of the gearing and take car not to lug or strain the truck too bad.
I believe 2013 was the last year for the xrunner in the continental US. Older ones had clutch/transmission issues, so I'd get the newest one you can. Still LOVE my truck to this day.
I just purchased an 07X runner and have been doing my homework for sometime now, and the X runner gets his name from a steel piece that is in the shape of an X that is at the rear of the wheels above the spare connected on the frame you cannot see it unless you take the bed off, I learned this through a X runner Social media club
Great video! I didn't know the XRunner was available until 2015 in Hawai'i only! That cleared up some confusion for me cause I know some people here on Oahu who have 2015 XRunners, but always heard the last year was 2013 or 2014. Also didn't know about the oil cooler setup, that's a game changer. Thanks for sharing!!!
My pops had an 06 trd prerunner with an access cab and the 6spd factory options. When choosing a manual you could pay extra and opt for 6 speed over the 5 speed
Great video man! You covered all the important features and details I wanted to see. I'm actually buying one of these bad boys in the same blue as your's, but it's a 2014 model. So stoked I get to pick it up tomorrow!
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah they got rid of some features I LOVE in the 2016+ like the extra storage cubbies in the bed. I bought some black Sumo helper springs (since we haul and occasionally tow). I will film the install/review of that as well. Look forward to XRunner ownership. I freaking LOVE the truck.
A friend of mine had one but bigger tire all around cornered like a mother. I loved it now I'm looking for one. You never mentioned how it came from Hawaii. Small dealer where?? Anyway I ended up buying a 2006 tundra 4x4 extra cab 4 door great truck but sucks the gas... so I got my daily scion xb which is similar in cornering. I put the bigger tires and love that car too but I prefer a truck to haul stuff. Anyway gonna get rid of the tundra and look for a 2015 x runner. Disappointed on the gas milage you stated... but o well thank for the info
May I ask how much you paid for it ? We are in Hawaii and considering buying 2015 x runner for $23500 with 70000 milage on it … Don’t know if it’s good deal or not … All the used car price went up a lot due it inflations 😑💦
Prices are absolutely crazy right now. I bought mine about 5 years ago 15k miles, salvage title $23,xxx. Fast forward today I believe a higher mileage 2010 Xrunner with factory TRD supercharger sold locally for $43,xxx
Hey..... i am about to buy 2010 xrunner however upon getting it i would like to have the 2015 facelift done...... can u direct me to someone that knows all the parts needed and where to find them. Thanks
You must’ve put midgets in the backseat I have a 2005X runner and I had a hard time putting it a baby seat ... I love this truck I bought it with 103,000 miles it’s got 159,000 and I’ve had it for seven years and I put nothing but gas and oil filters and fluids
I have a 2007 red with 60 thousand miles on it, I won’t tow anything with it, except for the brakes it’s still stock otherwise these trucks aré headed for collecting and classics and are hard to get even now
@@thick_n_fluffy You'll have to do some research if its a st40 or 41 caliper. People have been putting other Toyota Truck and Lexus brakes on these truck as well

One of my favorite colors for the 2014 model year with the updated fascia…

Does the x-runner only come in manual? I might have to teach my wife if no auto shift.
Manual Only.
Yours didn’t come with the Tacoma bed liner ?? The rubber one
Did not. Only the plastic bed, but I bought the truck used.
Fuel economy for this is 16/21. 21/25 is for the 4 banger manual.
Thank you for the correction! I typically get 16- 18 mpg mixed on 91 octane.
I have 2008 Tacoma xrunner. How do we contact Hawaii, for the 2015 Tacoma Xrunner
I'd search a dealership, craigslist, ect in Hawaii that has the truck
I wanna get one and throw on a Magnuson supercharger, smaller pulley, intake, headers, exhaust and a tune and just make it my Summer vehicle.
