Yes, and that’s why I’m genuinely sticking through with it because the show is necessary. Because normally, if it hurts that much to watch, I would normally cut it off and never watch again lol
Russell T Davies wrote this show about his experiences as a gay man in London in the 8ps and Jill is actually a real person from his life who helped all those poor men as they got ill. A real Saint of a women.
Once again, thank you for reacting to this. The characters are indeed great as is the writing. My favorite characters are Jill and Colin. Jill is such a nice person, such an amazing friend and does so much for the guys, and poor Colin is so sweet and innocent.
I know this is an older video but just wanted to add that the creepy old man was not arrested for having sex with a minor, but for "cottaging," which is when gay men would look for sex in public toilets in parks. It was particularly prominent in UK gay culture during that time period, and illegal under the law of 'gross indecency' (meaning public sex, but only between 2 men). Police cracked down on it heavily, often sending in "pretty police" undercover to catch men in the act. Just a minor little detail, but interesting I think. Aside from that, I loved your SKAM reactions and was so happy to see you reacting to this - I think it's one of the best TV shows ever made. Joyous and heart-breaking at the same time, and so so important. Love your thoughts on Jill aswell
It was both, the younger lad was clearly under 21 as well and same sex intercourse wasn't legal for under 21s there were different ages of consent based on sexuality, hope this helps
Everyone I’ve recommended this series to I’ve followed up with “get a box of tissues…not a packet, not a pocket pack, a BOX…make it two!” It’s such a weepy. For me I was born into the world this portrays and I didn’t understand it because I wasn’t exposed to stuff like all this, as an adult I’ve almost been forced to have a confrontation with it when my friend was diagnosed as HIV+, thankfully he’s now undetectable which is the best prognosis we could’ve hoped for, but watching this and seeing the fear driving homophobia further into society’s heads…yeah, it’ll break anyone!
I’m sure someone must’ve mentioned it but Colin was fired because, after seeing the newspapers, his boss thought Colin had AIDs. Given that no one knew exactly how it was spread at the time, he was fired
Some history at the time of this episode, they had not even found the virus and there was evidence that condoms prevented viruses.....read 'and the band played on' it will rock your world! Mega points for mentioning Monkey Pox!!! Also you will need vallium by the time we get to No 5 but I am looking forward to your perspective
The same conversation came up in POSE when the younger kids were just ignoring the advice of older gays and just felt that ppl were trying to stop them from having sex/fun AND YES!!!!! It is ALWAYS the black woman championing for people

I had the same reaction at the end. Literally just erased any memory of him. It was so hard getting through this show. But it is such a good show.
