Yess thank you for reacting to this!! Interesting you mention the BBC because they actually rejected the show because it was too sensitive or something like that which is insane since this show is created by one of the greatest TV writers of all time, the same person who brought back Doctor Who “NuWho” from 2005-2010. Very excited to see your reactions to the rest of the series 🔥🔥
This miniseries was created by Russell T Davies, a gay man who was the same age as these characters in the time period depicted. Many of the various characters' stories and experiences are reflective of what he and his social circle experienced. RTD put so much time and effort into researching the subject matter to make sure what he put on screen is faithful and accurate to what happened.
I cried watching this series. Deeply touched me as I think about my friend group and how I am their "Jill". So thankful my friends are not having to face a pandemic like this as part of the LGBTQIA+ community today where there are no resources, no support, and seen as a death sentence. I could not imagine. So glad you are watching this!!
This show has got Russel T. Davies stamp all over it so ofcourse you love it. I bingewatched it myself, couldn't hold it down to just one episode. If you ever need another short show to react to, Russel T. Davies wrote an amazing other one called 'Years and years' from 2019 and has only 4 episodes. I love how he put great ideas into amazing short series that doesn't drag on years after years (huh) unless it's for Doctor Who, that never seems a drag for me and could last forever because of it's uniqueness. Great reaction Andres. LA!
Hugely popular series in the UK it won awards. My 30yo sister was asking my mum if the 80s were really like this, and my mum confirmed that yes for the lgbt community yes this is very realistic.
This is one of my favourite series. It's written by Russell T Davies, the writer of Doctor Who from Rose to Donna, and he also wrote the original Queer as Folk too. Basically everything he writes just gets better and better, and there is another short series I'd suggest from him once you finish this but ofc, I'll save that for later!
Typed in it’s a Sin wanting to hear Pet Shop Boys. You popped up so watch your video for the first time. Enjoy the show. Can’t wait for the second one. This show has nothing to do with BBC. It is a Channel 4 programme.
I cried watching this reaction! This show is one of the most important shows of all time and always makes me WEEP! As a queer person born in 2000, it’s shocking (but not surprising) to see how people with AIDS in the 80s and 90s, but more so the 80s, we’re treated by the healthcare system and society. Such a great reaction and can’t wait to see you react to the next 4 eps! Also, I know somebody in comments has probably already said, but ‘It’s A Sin’ was produced by Channel 4, not BBC, and was written by Russell T Davies, who was the showrunner of ‘Doctor Who’ for Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, and is coming back to the show with Ncuti Gatwa!
If you liked this, you'll love Queer as Folk (the British version, not the American remake). It was one of the earliest gay series in the UK and written by Russel T Davies. He also wrote shows called Cucumber and Banana that are worth a watch.
Any chance you can to refer to this '80s stuff as "Classic" rather than "old"?! :D :D ;) :p I've only just watched the first episode myself, so guess we'll be catching up together... ...Meanwhile: if you haven't seen it already, the original (Russell T Davies / Channel 4) "Queer As Folk" is worth a watch... Where I worked, SO many people (straight or otherwise) were talking about it as it aired. I also enjoyed the US remake which took the story further. :)
This show is really good. Great characters, and very good writing. It was created by the same guy who was show runner when David Tennant was the Doctor.
The deaths in this series reminds me of Chernobyl another fantastic HBO Miniseries. I also chuckle that the main guy is Richie Tozier being a IT fan. And well Richie being Gay as well. But oh god.. Colin. My poor sweet boy.. fuck.. Jill is the damn MVP. And thank you for acknowledging we used to think it was contagious through common touch. Alot of people get rather ticked at this portrayal of how the doctors and nurses would not go near a HIV/AIDS patient. Its historically accurate same as showing how other medical misttreatments happened. Also this series actually was great at encouraging people to get TESTED. Know your status!
Also yeah they did manage to actually cure a couple of people with HIV. It's still a ways to go before proper wide-spread cures are a thing, but to think how much progress has been made where cure or not, we have so many great methods to both treat HIV to be undetectable and untransmissable, as well as preventative medication like PREP too
Also It's A Sin was not made by the BBC, but was made by Channel 4, another broadcaster similar to BBC but I don't know what they're like when it comes to stuff like copyright. Hopefully less bad
Just to say it 100% Andres this was written by Russel T Davies as others have said, but just confirming this is indeed the same Russel T Davies as the showrunner of Doctor Who from Seasons 1-4 and he has been renewed as showrunner post Jodie Whittaker.
Also for reference, sod is a very british soft insult where it's kinda used as a thing between friends to just be like "oh you idiot". Daft sod just means you're a dummy basically
Was wondering when the RTD Dr Who and RTD other stuff crossover would happen. Feck those BBC as you always manage to do and im sure your gonna be blown away by this other RTD journey. TV at its most raw real thrilling and gripping i know but oops I still need to watch this myself so thats happening now.
It's Channel 4, not BBC (though not sure about US distributor). I don't think I know anybody who didn't watch this when it aired in the UK. Have tissues nearby. I was just a kid when all this was happening. People were scared, and a lot of straight people let it make them (even more) prejudiced than they already were. I remember, in the later 80s, having a stand up, screaming row in the living room (I was probably about 13 or 14 - AIDS was in all the news), with an uncle who said it was "all their own fault". I think he thought homosexuality should be criminalised again. He did say that "they" should have to pay for their own medical care, because it was their choice to get Aids. Eventually, my Nana (his mother) said he was an idiot, that people deserved compassion however they lived, and threw him out of the house (he didn't live there, and he came back, but she'd made her point). I cut ties with him after she died.

RTD also created the original British version of "Queer as Folk" for Channel 4 in the late nineties.
He also created the US version! (2000-2005).
And the show Years and Years which is really good too.

I've watched this mini series a couple of times. It's so good and important. Thank you for reacting to it.

I've watched several reviews of Its a Sin, all good, but yours is my favorite! Thank you, thank you for having the episode play as you review :)
Hallo, Andres. LOVE this series! 😍 The writing is incredible.

Well this is a nice surprise. This is hands down the best thing RTD has done. Enjoy!
Woo thanks for reacting to this Andres

Fun Fact: this series is written by the same person (Russel T Davies) who wrote Christopher Ecclestone and David Tennants Doctor Who series

Yes it is def not as strict as bbc!

Yassss periodt.
They are referencing Steve Austin, The Six Million Dollar Man. It was a very popular show in the late 1970's.
oh damn i thought they meant the wrestler cause he is the bomb lmaoooo OH WAIT this is soo before his time...chileeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
@@AndresElRey The Six Million Dollar Man had a sexy hairy chest and I was like 6 and lusting after him.
Daft sod is an affectionate insult. Commonplace in Great Britain. Daft meaning silly, stupid, lacking sense or judgement.
‘I hope it’s not gonna be sad’ 😮😢 sorry……
