one of the rare brilliant minds in show biz. not afraid to say what he means and never vulgar inspite of everything ....Recently on australian tv, he spoke out about vulgarity on tv and people in general gave him a slew of angry reponses...CANT UNDERSTAND THAT. People prefer to listen to vulagarity rather than clean , real fun
He probably meant openly dirty knob jokes like Jimmy Carr does: whereas his thing is innuendo, like "I was buffing my husband's obelisk"! (Michael Parkinson interview).
I agree!! Vulgarity is Not funny. It's used by those who can't form complete thoughts with a higher level of language skills. Lazy people use vulgarity.
When Des tells Dame "So she never goes parachuting". That completely caught Dame off guard and i absolutely peed my pants watching her response to that...!!! Dame is the best...!!!
Oh you must i can't stop watching that part...!!! Dame was in the middle of getting another line out for the joke. But Des completely caught her off guard. And she played right into it classic Dame...;)
She is never caught off guard. She graciously laughed with Des at the incredible thought that Madge might ever go parachuting, then continued dominating the proceedings. Unlike some, she can let a person get a word in edgeways, to her credit. Neat little comment of his though.
Such wit and would have given Winston Churchill a run for his money. So very entertaining. I would have loved to seen a conversation between those two.
He did Torchy, but it is almost disrespectful to have the Dame on for less than 20 minutes as it was warming up nicely but Des started to worry about the time!!!
What was funny about Dame Edna was that you'd laugh in anticipation of what was coming next... you knew it would involve some raunchy innuendo or something controversial.. 🤣🤣
No! You were right the first time! Brilliant MAN! Are you a man who is afraid to describe another man as a man for fear of being howled down by some extreme left degenerates?! You're no man.
Barry Humphries remained loyal to his character until the end when his interpretation of a woman at the head of a dysfunctional family merged with the reality of another, royal.
I’ve never seen Dame Edna genuinely laugh at her interviewer’s quip. Des is a great straight man but here Dame Edna chortles away at his spontaneous ‘parachute’ line. I miss this kind of interview that no one does anymore, the guests today are just foils for the host, on Des’s show he played the straight guy to set them up or a generous host asking great but not intrusive questions.
Sadly it’s UA-cam, TikTok, Instagram etc that have caused the death of the golden era of TV & entertainment. It appears that most people would rather watch a video of a nobody with millions of followers going to KFC than anyone with any real talent.
Barry Humphries, a born performer, out of dreary, tedious Melbourne, Shakespearean actor off Shaftesbury Ave., and subsequente automatic alcoholic, a consumate performer as I was saying...also somebody who is ad libbing most of the time and applying his masterful command of the english language...I wish ther was something negative to say about him n ow.
@@chrispetritsch4959 no I didn't but it is probably one of those cities that went from victorian, to opening up to the modern world, and then some. I guess in the late eighties and early nineties or so . I lived in a city with a similar trajectory, Toronto Canada
Dame Edna said Madge is so full of piercing holes that she whistles as the wind blows through her. Des upped the idea by imagining how the wind would blow through her if she parachuted. Hope you laughed!😅

I do know what you mean, but he was a lovely man, and believe me, not the only English entertainer to make a great career out of little talent. Have you ever heard of Man by grav
She owns every appearance, effortlessly entertaining, what a talent
It really is very clever. The effortless wit is something to behold. I salute you, Dame Edna.
By far the greatest! I am just so glad they have so much documentation of this fabulous talent. She is an IKON!
I play anything with Dame Edna to get my day started with a smile 😊
Love the way she stares at the hosts and other guests to make them laugh and feel uncomfortable. Absolutely fantastic.
I think Des is on her wavelength--he gets her, and that brings out the best in her.
When you can bring smiles and laughter to the world you know your someone special.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face.
Thanks so much for this, I adore Dame Edna. She takes charge of the entire show in her magical way!

Dame Edna! Always poised, witty, funny, never boring.

RIP DAME EDNA always remembered 😢

These were the days when tv was fun and worth watching
Couldn't agree more! I hardly bother to watch anything contemporary now, it just isn't of the same quality, and it's all too PC!

Did I just see BH taken by surprise by Des O and have a real laugh at the parachute gag? Wonderful!
So sad these 2 legends are no longer with us😢
Thank you for uploading this. :)
What a lovely musical introduction. How I would love to walk onto the stage with that music.
This is CLASSIC! Dame Edna perfect as usual, and Des laughing his head off off cam
Genius, beyond compare!
One of the greatest comedy geniuses ever. Very thankful I met him and witnessed many of his shows. A huge loss.
I love Dame Edna. She makes me laugh out loud 🤣 She's brilliant. I miss those days.
