*Important Message* Y’all, the competitive scene of Splatoon is growing. Let’s show our support. In the description, I listed various links to socials for various orgs & teams. Check them out. I’m confident you’ll learn something new!
I think mentality talks are really important for this community. It not only effects your gameplay, but those around you time to time, as well. Gem released one on the right mentality for Big Run already, and I think he did one for the competitive scene as well. so it's nice to see others also talking about this.
I completely agree, no team is unbeatable and in the small amount of time I ve been playing comp, I immediately noticed that how good you are on paper does not win you the game.
Whenever I hear discussion about this in Splatoon, I always can’t help but talk about Tetris. The one I play (Tetrio) has an elo system that is openly displayed before each 1v1 match, but the biggest mistake you can make is thinking “this will be an easy win” or “this is a loss.” The mental game in tetris is extremely important because it is the only factor in your speed, consistency, and quality of piece placements. You have to trust that you will play your best game no matter your opponent’s skill, because otherwise you LITERALLY play worse. With tetris, it clearly shows with decreases in speed and much more misdrops, but it also applies to Splatoon and to all competitive games. Your best bet is to give your opponent the same amount of respect as you do yourself, whether their arbitrary number is higher or lower than yours.
I used to play competitive on a small team as a backup player and I played more than the guy I was a "just in case" for, and I just didn't care that I was going up against bigger opponents attending minor tournaments while my team was shaken. Nobody expects a Hydra after popping Ink Armor for their team to push to be right in your face as well and pushing, and it worked for me, I played my typically aggro style and it payed off. Skill is skill, the game is the game, winning is always possible, play as if you are in your element.
Not if you are cursed with chronically incompetent and absolutely and in every way incapable team members, like I am. I am an above-average player, I can statistically prove that, yet going up alone against a capable team alone with only deadweight to "assist" (read: sabotage) you is a lost cause.
I was actually going to join a Splatoon competition called “under pressure” for those A rank and under but I chickened out because I seriously don’t have the mentality to compete fully yet. Maybe next time 😅
Not to even mention, even if you’re being put in a “low skill” area or being treated as a noob, it’s important to note that the “pros” originated from there, everyone does, so who’s to say you won’t be the next one in the upcoming future? Show your worth, don’t let these “titles” define who you are cause who knows, you might even grow out of them and surpass even those being labeled on a “higher rank”… Always remember: •“Good Luck, Have Fun!” •”Stay Filled with Determination!”
i dislike doing a lot of series battles in s rank because i usually think i should get more practice on open. one day, one of my friends jokingly told me to play series with a weapon i haven't played in over 4 years at this point. i (even more ironically) actually did it. i wiped that entire serious clean and gained hundreds of points, all while having the most neutral and carless expression ever. on the other hand, i've gotten upset as losing streaks and had the opposite happen. EDIT: lmao typo
I think fear hits hard for me as an Inkbrush player, when I see the weapon comp I go: OMG THEY GOT A ROLLER AND A HYDRA. There are times where I don't fear the comp and focus on the play and win
It is a shame that in Latin America the competitive scenes are not very noticeable or barely exist, that is why I have been forced to enter into the english community of splatoon were is really more active but my lacking of know perfectly english makes me a little barrier when we are talking about callouts or just talking to a teammate
@@GUSplatoon Good advise for sure. I switched to blobobber and went on a long win streak after LoL. Been playing Splatoon since the very beginning at launch of the first game, but still feel like I’m no good sometimes. Thanks for the encouragement. Been down this road many, many times and pretty much every Splatfest. For some reason I’ll hit a massive losing streak but then I’ll find my stride. Still a great game though. Thanks for the videos!
Do that and still lose twice as often as I win despite being statistically above-average as player due to the sheer incompetence of other Splatoon players - another reason why I'm incredibly frustrated with the game. I've never gone a rank up ever in this game. Only down. And each and every time I lose a game, I have up to 4 times the kills than deaths, are the best player when it comes to reaching the objective (the game tells me that) while my absolutely incompetent and chronically incapable team members have barely positive KD-numbers, mostly negative or even negative to the point where they got themselves killed 4 times more than they killed enemies while not managing to drive the objective foward at any point during a match. I even tell them "come here" repeatedly, a save passage with no enemy in sight - they run head-first into a group of 3 opponents - alone, I might add - and then wonder why they lost.
I wish I had someone tell me “Don’t give a shit” and “just play the game, no matter you win or lose,” rather than “it’s just a game git gud.” I hate how people say “git gud,” yet not giving advice on way on HOW to do it. How does someone solve a equation without telling them how to solve equations?
It was a good point, i'm not competitive, but already reached S+, i don't think getting back to S+ is worth it for me, i never participate in tourments sense i was 16 years old, and i cannot compete tourements like Splatoon, i compete in tourments in Mario Kart, and Smash Bros when i was a kid. Mental Health is important for the gaming and Splatoon Community, but i got to get my performance better as a 7 in a half year Splatoon Player, i hope they take mental health responsibly.
Not wrong, but I watched about 3 of popgun's videos and he is so negative and complains so much, that I had to unsubscribe. I assume that kind of content is useful for a lot of people, but I don't know who and I know it isn't me.

Definitely, it plays a huge role in how you perform!

Yup, throw that paper out the window. Play the game

I participated in the first junior tournament for under pressure and it was really fun. It's a great introduction to comp.
