Chester lays down a sick riff and Mike works his magic to make it sound even cooler. Sad to know those two will never create another song or write lyrics together ever again
@@galacticpondofficial Nah, it was Chester messing around on guitar, they mention it briefly during Frat Party at the Pankake Festival and the making of Meteora
I was wondering how it all played out in the end but now I know.... I fell in love with this intro the first time I heard it!!!! I still blast this joint whenever I FEEL LIKE IT!!!! and if a punk got a problem with it he can take it up with me!!!!!
Watch the making of Meteora you will hear the story of how on the tour bus in 2001, Chester came up with this part. The band thought it was too “folky” and didn’t know what to do with the recording so they flipped it back and cut it into 4 pieces and played it in the order it was originally recorded in. Great story.
So, when Chester actually came up with that part on guitar, it sounded like it does in the song. They didnt like the acoustic sound so they reversed it, but because they liked the original progression, they cut up the sound into 4 measures, and put them back in the original order. Basically, Mike cut the reversed track, which would be going 4 3 2 1, and pasted it as 1 2 3 4.
that makes sense and I always suspected that was the case. the forward version just doesn't sound quite right, it's a kind of strange series of chords to use and it's not the kind of riff you'd expect in a linkin park song.
Fun fact : the reversed intro of "somewhere I belong" is how actually it was supposed to sound like, but then they reversed it so the tempo would've been 4-3-2-1 and to make it sound cooler :)
Gives me so many feelings and memories... I got the songs In the end and Somewhere I belong between many others like 50 Cent, Shakira, Usher and others on a CD from a friend back in 2003. I was 12. I kept listening only to these 2 songs from the total 25 that were on that CD. I became a LP fan in a couple of hours. I feel like this intro is part of me, is part of my body, is part of my past. Now I'm 33 years old. I feel these songs so much as time passes...
I never noticed this, and this sounds like Chester when he would play on his acoustic guitar and I'm only making this theory as he had did the same while in the studio with the 'Unicorns and Lollipops' skit.
There is something oddly dystopian about this rift.
yes!! been thinking this forever
Probably caused from the distortion of the audio, but that is just part of it. The riff just has that _feel_ to it.
It all makes sense now though does it not
@@bandiwasethat they were awake after all. We lost a rebel/freedom fighter in Chester, but there message will be here forever through their music. 👁️👌

I think it was Brad Delson that wrote the riff while Mike remixed the audio. Still an absolute tragedy

The reverse gives a different feel
Sounds like a seether type riff just with a low quality type sound effect over it ngl
Never realized that it was guitar …

no one seems to appreciate that part, they gotta view that part of the doc for sure

When this began
It's so interesting. Such a beautiful sound was created by just reversing the guitar.

Glad I didn't kick the bucket without finding this
The original un reversed could be song of its own.
fellow tomoko
Yo! Two Tomokos?
chester‘s a genius
I wish there was a full version of a song using the original riff. It's so melancholic and post-apocalyptic feeling.
They used bitcrusher on that guitar
Also they used a phaser or flangus
I’ve been looking for this for years
Reversed audio effect, switch the parts around from 4-3-2-1!
Damn just what I’ve been searching for thanks a lot 🤜🤛

If Meteora had it's own reanimation version I imagine that Somewhere I Belong's opener would be reversed back to normal
the reverse part sounds like an intro, the un-reversed part sounds like an outro, they should have used it at the end of the song
Beautiful

DUDE, LEGENDS
Both are good
The reversed one without the effect gives off major seether vibes
sounds like there's some ring modulation on it as well
it’s chester playing acoustic guitar but mike reversed it and added an effect to it

I need the chords of this reverse
