Wanted to drop this last week but been a lil sick…I hope you enjoy the video though and hopefully advantage Lucy will gain some new fans!! Also, let me know who you want me to cover next!
channels like this make me feel like we're entering a new age of internet discovery, like much of what was obscure in the 90's and early 2000's is finally coming to light after what seemed like none of it ever would. Advantage Lucy is also finally on spotify, here's to hoping we get the full discography!
In the summer of 1998, when the name was changed from Lucy Van Pelt, the Wimbledon Championships were being held in the UK. The term "advantage Lucy" originates from "advantage server."
Thank you!! Yeahh but only Fanfare and Station is up at least for me, which makes sense since those were released by Toshiba-EMI so my guess was they just threw those two up on streaming
Brilliant video! Their catalog really is fantastic. I’ve seen them many times live. Don’t forget they also have a 7 track EP after Echo Park called Sept Papillons which is also excellent.
thanks for the video! i love 90s music and sometimes it's hard to get to know japanese bands because they didn't hit mainstream before the internet was acessible as is today. Because of Tim Rogers i got to know Number Girl, and because of your channel now i know advantage Lucy and hopefully many more to come!
Glad to have found your channel and a video covering one of my favourite groups ever, whose music always puts a smile on my face. Also great to find out there is potentially a new release soon. That's something I will look forward to. Japan was producing so many good bands around the 90's-00's period but one group maybe worth doing a video on in the future is Swinging Popsicle who had many similarities to Advantage Lucy and another band you covered in an earlier video, Cymbals.
As a musician aiming to utilize the shibuya-kei sound in my music I'm loving how in depth you go for your topics; I can't wait to see whats next I'm in several niche groups facebook/ reddit boards dedicated to it, which makes me confident a resurgence can come soon. You should do something about Cornelius and his masterpiece Fantasma and how it truly defined the genre
Lol i just left a comment about how "cymbals" deserve a video too and i saw that you already made one. Absolutely amazing. I'm happy i found this channel
plz plz check out their ep oolt cloud it might be the tightest ep any band ever dropped advantage lucy is one of my favorite bands so glad to come across this vid
Yo, awesome video! Could you make a video on Luminous Orange? They're one of my favorite bands, but I have no idea what happened to them or where they've been.
omg advantage lucy. i used to listen to them alone in my room as an awkward teenager and dream about going to japan. eventually i was lucky enough to meet them when they played a little festival in aomori prefecture back in 2014, i think? it was truly a full circle moment.
Another based video. This band brings back so many nice memories. It makes me happy seeing them get love on RYM. Try covering Plus-Tech Squeeze Box next!
I've always thought Advantage Lucy sound like if Spangle Call Lilli Line stopped being progressive and just played simple happy songs. That bossa nova track on Station is my favourite of theirs. But the first thing I've heard by them, like fifteen years ago or more, was Echo Park and it just sounded like clear sunny day. Amazing band.

You need to delve more into the Neo-Acoustic scene in Japan as a whole. B-Flower, Gomes the Hitman are recommended!
