- John McLaughlin's Shakti featuring Zakir Hussain & Shankar Manhadevan
John McLaughin (guitar), Shankar Manhadevan (vocals), Ganesh Rajagopalan (violin),
Zakir Hussain (percussion), Vinayakram Selvaganesh (percussion)
I have fond memories of seeing Shakti at the very beginning when they played in Goa 50 years ago. Oh where did all the time go, they were great then and even better now. Zakir actually made the tabla talk that night and I mean literally.
How wonderful, I'm happy for you.
Time is an illusion in the eternal now-present.
Form must always change and flow to exist.
But consciousness is always here! 🕉
It's all a miraculous blessing... 🙏 ✨️
Shakti! 🎉 Shiva! 🕉
Would love to hear Shakti lives on Spotify in the future, this is really remarkable stuff.
OMG !! What did I just hear. So so nice. More more.
World class fusion. At 81 McLaughlin hasn't lost any ability at all! And the Indian musicians are all brilliant.
His ability to age well is almost as astounding as his insane playing skills, as strong as ever!
I saw their show at NJPAC last Sunday. Now I understand why he's a legend. And he was one of five legends onstage.
What an amazing show that was! Seems like everyone was walking on air as they left the venue. Such a wonderful vibe in that hall, everyone came out for the music
After 50 years Zakir Hussain is in McLaughlin telepathy connection, every note replicated synchronously in percussion.
bedankt voor de opnames, we waren erbij, maar te gek om het nog weer terug te zien.
Very nice performance but missing L.N. Shankar on violin... I saw him performing beginning of this year in Varanasi (India) and it was amazing 🥰 yeah, sad he's not joining John & Zakir to remember Shakti, I saw them too in 1977... time is flying... time is illusion in the infinite present...
All is bliss, all is bliss 🪷
Amazing! The separate thanks for the cameraman!🙏
Saw them Friday. Waited 50 years to see this presentation. I think the trio with Trilok and Kent K. was closest to this, but not of this brilliance and beauty. Deeply breathtaking. Along with the Mahavishnu commemoration of a few years ago, J.M. has graced the world yet again.
Mahavishnu commemoration?
What pray 🙏 tell? 🕉
@@prajnachan333 "Commemoration" in that the Mahavishnu tour with Jimmy Herring was (to me) a solemn observation of the treasured history therein.
I would have loved to see Mahavishnu
No words do this music justice. At least none that I have. But I have to say that McLaughlin is a miracle and his musicians in all his bands, well they are the ver best ❤
Yes
Oh, how I love this - apart from all virtuosity, they make the meaning of playing obvious. The joy of playing, there is sheer joy in their eyes.
What a magnificent petformance by the maestros.
Perhaps the best version of Shakti yet.
Thank you so so much for this video! All is bliss, all is bliss...
Very classy, gentlemen. Thank you
that solo from shankar in giriraj sutha 🤌😘 17:40
Fantastic. Sold out show in Irvine. So, big thanks for this jewel. Truly ground breaking for western and eastern audiences!
Wow 8.38 onwards just blew me away , thank you.
Om SHAKTI KUNALINI SHAKTI! OM SAT CHIT MAHAKARUNA ANANDA!

******* Still enjoy the early Shakti albums fifty years after finding them in Des Moines, Iowa!-

Great. Fantastic concert! It wasn't until I was 80 jear old that I got to know the great artists. All the best to the ensemble. ❤🍀
It's nice to see when the artists can enjoy the audience. 🍀
I’ve been listening to Jon M. Since Bitches Brew in the 60s. Always a favorite. I was able to see him in concert twice with Mahavishnu Orchestra, and twice with Shakti. Very memorable concerts.
@@Jbuginas How I lucky if you could hear and see these concert. Greetings from Dresden.
Lovely, wish I could see John McLaughlin’s guitar, however.
Shakti the creative energy ✨️
Shiva presence of awareness 🕉
Advaya not two 🙏
Krtagyata gratitude 🎉
I am at once thrilled to hear and see Shakti returned; and sad that the other original member L. Shankar is absent.
Such is life; another unknown.
I celebrate this wonderful music 🎶 and musicians 🕉 🕊
I saw L.N. Shankar performing beginning of this year in Varanasi (India) and it was amazing 🥰 yeah, sad he's not joining John & Zakir to remember Shakti, I saw them too in 1977... time is flying... time is illusion in the infinite present...

And they say telepathy doesn't exist
It does. Non-verbal autistic people can hear thoughts, no matter the distance.
Hello Mark...if that's what "they" say...that's why "they" don't interest me...may Shakti forever remain in our hearts and souls...that say I.
I don’t know how it works, but Indian music seems designed to achieve mind melds in real time….
It’s called ear training …It seems like telepathy -but after listening/playing enough with each other the best musicians can anticipate how other musicians respond
@@JimboJazz yeah it's basically just speaking a language; once you're fluent, you can anticipate what people will say.
1:15 start
Great concert, unfortunate camera angle. Four thumbs up. Unfortunately, can’t see John Mclaughlin’s hands.
Shakti is a wonderful example of how Indian music tends to absorb and blend in different musical styles.
Hey guys,
could anyone tell me, whats the part from around 8 minutes called? I have been searchin for it since i heard it live at Budapest this year, but i cant find it.
Bless you
It's a prayer to your teacher/ guru before starting anything. Seeking his blessings to do justice to his teachings in a performance.
It's called Guru Mantra. I doubt if it's available online with the same melody and all the improvisations except other Shakti live performances.
In case you want the song after the mantra, it's Giriraj Sudha.
Happy listening.
What a blast from past! So good to see Shakti again! Remember Shakti? 😅😊
Tho I get tired of too much of Zakir...
I have never heard a word from Anoushka Shankar about them🤔
Why should she comment?
Is John 81 years old?
John is born 04-01-1942
cammer suck
it's amazing how you managed to combine the most uninteresting aspects of indian classical music with the most tedious aspects of american jazz to create the worst fusion ever.
That guy on the right with the tambourine. Is he the best tambourine player in the world?
@@NefastusJones he very well might be.
But I think it says a lot that me: a very experienced musician, with hundreds of live gigs, and a bachelors degree in music, didn't even notice there was a tambourine player...
Also:
Pretty sure that's a kanjira, not a tambourine ;)
That's quite a statement...can you back that up by giving us some better examples?...or is this just your opinion?...just curious as to who are (were) your music teachers?...and what recordings have you made or that exist that can support your statement by contrast?
@@bradgillian5269 ...of course it's my opinion.
There is no objectively 'better' in art.
Why would telling you who my music teachers are contribute to the conversation?
I doubt you've heard of them.
And I don't do any recordings of Indian classical music or jazz fusion, so I don't understand what listening to them would achieve.
This stupid comment is at the bottom where it belongs.
To bad you cant see anything...... audio is nice thou😢
