@@an-dr6eu I know norther europe is doing very well and there's a ton of government incentives to help. The brake light screen thing is kinda nice, actually. On some cars, when you're in one-pedal drive mode, it activates the brake lights when you lift your foot off the gas. I sometimes wonder if my brake lights come on when I slow down to a light in my EV.
The Ariya is by far the nicest looking EV crossover for me, externally. Quite a beauty. But internally, I’m most excited about the Fisker Ocean with its center screen that can rotate from portrait to landscape entertainment mode. I love the idea of relaxing in the car while parked somewhere and watching streaming movies, and not worrying about the cost because charging at home would be cheap versus buying petrol in an ice.
When I was at the Philadelphia Auto Show this was the number one most interested EV besides the Ford Mach E. Everyone was test driving it and it looked super nice driving by. Nissan did a good job with this.
Having driven the AWD version I can say it's fairly sporty if you push it, but you still notice that it's not lightweight, so it feels as if it's got some heft to it. I'd say it's the fastest car I've driven so far by a decent margin.
the brake light thing is actually good to have. i didnt realize my brake lights weren’t functioning properly until i was pulled over twice in the same week for it. once when i found out and the second time after my fix didnt last
Even if your bulb is out i think it would still light up in the screen. Theres a button the brake pedal touches every time you press the brake pedal and that sends light to the bulb in the back. They would need a sensor for that which i think no car has a bulb sensor except for in the turn signals.
@@caocacao-y7l Not "no car" - My 1983 Toyota Cressida had a brake light/taillight bulb sensor. If either was not working it had a "Rear Lights" indicator in the gauge cluster.
Yes. It's particularly important when using one pedal drive to be aware of whether the brake lights are working. All EVs use software to turn on the brake lights when the car slows down due to regen to an extent that an ICE car would require the brake pedal pushed.
Tennessee plates on the car as Nissan is headquartered just outside Nashville. Nissan also has the naming rights for the Tennessee Titans stadium and Doug is repping the Titans with his shirt. Nicely done!
It's so meta. The shirt says "Remember the Oilers" as in the Houston Oilers--predecessor to the Tennessee Titans. It has the Titans logo with the Oilers logo inside of it. Ironic that the logo is an oil derrick while he's reviewing an EV. Kudos to Doug if it's intentional, and kudos to you for spotting it.
We all hated the Mach E at launch (understandably, bc of the nameplate used), but it literally sparked a new market segment full of pretty interesting vehicles.
I am glad Doug had also clearly listened to other people's feedback on explaining his score bit more, even if he doesn't explain each individual category.
I wish he’d explain even more. How does it have a higher fun factor than a Model 3? How is it so much more practical but a worse value? It feels like he is just trying to make Nissan happy by inflating it’s score. He also said “58” but clearly a point is missing from the table.
The Doug score amuses me and I think its a clever idea in terms of making his reviews unique. However I think it's essentially useless as a tool for determining if a car is good or not. For example he has a the Soltera ranked at 54 and it's a very mediocre EV. It's a completely half-hearted attempt by Toyota. At 50 he has the Toyota Rav4 Prime which is in the world of PHEV's is knocking it out of the park. I guess it gives you an idea of how much Doug likes each car, so it's useful for that. I kind of love the hubris of it.
@@napoleantnt5 Of course you got to take it with a grain of salt, or quite a bit of grains. He's still an entertainer and for true comparisons and reviews go to Edmunds, Alex on Autos, etc. Those are more feature-based and spec-based, what Doug and some others do is mostly entertainment.
That brake light option which shows u the brake lighting in real time is to make sure all ur brake lights are working. Other cars had that features all the way back to the 60s. My 92 lexus got it as well
It took them a decade and a few car versions, for some unimaginable reason, but Nissan finally has a car with active thermal management for the battery. Welcome to the modern age, Nissan.
As a 2 mo. owner of a FWD Premiere, one feature that no one mentioned, is the lower door lips that protect the interior sill from dirt, water splashes. So, when you step in the car, the sill is clean, and dry so your pants, dress hem doesn’t get dirty. Genius!
9:19 Subarus show you your brake lights in the gauge cluster screen, and it’s honestly the *best feature ever* and single handedly most missed feature, that I absolutely still miss even after a year of not having a subaru. All cars have the same safety and tech features for the most part, (I’ve had like every mainstream vehicle as company cars for work) they all have blind spot, rear cross traffic, push2start, reverse cam, etc etc. but that little pic of my Subaru showing me when my brake lights are engaged was *so nice* and it made me feel safer when using the “auto brake hold” with my foot off the brake pedal. Cause I knew my brake lights were on for other drivers to see, even though my foot was just chillen off the pedals. It’s def a “don’t knock it till you try it” feature.
Handsome design. I'm waiting to see the longer term reviews as post-sales support, software updates, etc. are a big part of owning an EV and can't really be covered in early reviews.
The brake light function on the driver's display is excellent because regen brakes can trigger them, but not 100% of the time, given it depends on the rate to decelerate. I would like to see this on all EVs. People in traffic have thought I was intentionally riding the brake to piss them off.
Doug - You live in the San Diego. So when you say most people aren’t interested in the AWD drive version, we’ll, in San Diego that’s probably true. But up here in the north, where we had 4” of snow just this morning, AWD is of high interest to us.
I remember Doug kinda smirking about the brake lights coming on in the little car representation of a Outback. I do know the when driving my Forester and I have the automatic cruise activated it’s nice to have a visual representation in front of me indicating when braking is activated. Especially in heavier and stop and go traffic.
I just saw my first Ariya today (in Nashville, TN). I don't know how I missed this video from 9 months ago and how I hadn't seen this car before considering I live about 30 miles from the Nissan factory (in Smyrna, TN) and the USA HQ (in Franklin, TN)
This suv is absolutely awesome! I tried out the BASE model and it is so roomy! The front seat can easily have two buckets and a middle seat, making the Aliya a six passenger crossover. Also, The seats were heated/cooled and ventilated The base model also has a heads up display. So much for only 43,000
it cant have 6, its only registered for 5 people, also the range on the base model is pretty poor, also msrp is 43 grand and dont get the tax credit either.
@@AndisweatherCenter Well that’s Tesla for you, they’ve become the new laughing stock when it comes to automotive cost cutting, seemingly almost as egregious as GM in decades past. Any respectable forty some odd thousand dollar car should have heated and ventilated seats
Great job, several genuine features! @@PassportBrosBusinessClass my guess is the money behind it or even the chip shortage. Nissan can’t put out every vehicle so they are gonna put out the ones that are more likely to sell (lower priced models). If they were in a more stable spot, I’d bet it be out
Nissan has been going down the tubes for quite some time now especially when it came to sound mechanical engineering as well as design. It is surprising then to see that they have managed to create quite a pleasant sleek interior on this one.
Maybe I'm imagining this, but I think that this is NOT the first time Doug has demonstrated an infotainment screen and had a song by the band Garbage cued up. That's pretty hip...for Doug.
That center storage tray in the dash reminds me of big American cars from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, which all had something like that for the ash tray and cigarette lighter. Very cool to see that coming back as a storage tray instead.
For real. Automakers have completely forgot us peasants. Even the cheap cars like the Fiesta and Versa they have/had were so expensive. Most people who could afford those could afford something nicer. I guess this is why the US automotive fleet is older than ever.
I can't help but think the "lease everything " ever expanding model for all purchases over the last decade has created a situation where the hope of the manufacturers is no one buys a car.
Yeah the e-4ORCE we got as a demo at our dealership is FAST BABY. We've already sold through our very small allocation of Ariyas and are waiting for more to land
That center console moves into next week! Brought to you by Stretch Armstrong Action Figures®. His arms, much like the Aryia center console, stretch into next week!
I'm surprised Doug didn't mention that the Ariya has 2 shark fin antennas to help with reception inside of the car. That is a rare quirk to see in vehicles.
Another great feature is the zero gravity seats, 👏👏👏which are really comfortable! The lumbar support inflates with air for more support, and deflates for less support.
Hardware up front instead of a frunk makes some maintenance easier. You don't necessarily need a lift or need to take the car apart to replace things that can be accessed with the hood up.
Bro I saw that at the North Texas Auto Show I think! Also the EV test track was awesome. With the Lighting and Mach-E. Would definitely recommend going.
i have a nissan leaf sl plus and it has a lot that this does, just smaller and cheaper. I love it and it is pretty quick, 215 hp and 0-60 in around 6.5 seconds. Fun little hatchback!
I would love for Doug to do classics, but I guess that’s Doug’s plan B if there’s nothing to review in a desperate time. Example, 68 69 70 charger, Shelby cobra, ford gt, Cuda, etc!
Nissan is upping their quality a lot lately. Its really great seeing them going back to their roots, also makes me happy that they can finally compete more with the top players Toyota, Honda and Mazda.
The lack of transmissions and other complicated moving parts in EVs make it much easier for auto manufacturers to close the gap with each other. Nissans are still plagued by their terrible CVTs and build quality, same with many other manufacturers -- once you take all that out of the equation, it gets *really* hard to mess up bad enough where someone can't recommend your car -- even if your body panels fall off ;)
@@derekbarbosa CVT issues are a thing of the past. Nissan’s CVTs have been great since 2017/18… Nissan cars built quality is awesome. Check J.D. Power stats, and how see how Nissan is among the best in 2023. Even the Murano took the 1st place in it’s SUV category. Funny how people say Nissan hasn’t updated anything without realizing they are the ones that need an update themselves.
The two problems I have with capacitive buttons: you can't find them easily by touch (without also activating them), and you can't work them while wearing gloves. Also I'm extremely not a fan of rear-camera "mirrors." Not having parallax depth perception makes it a lot harder to safely judge distances, and having the view angle be decoupled from the mirror's physical angle also makes relative positioning much more difficult to judge. I suppose this is less of an issue because of the backup/wraparound camera and the parking assist, though. I'd imagine that the brake light display is helpful for folks who want to know what the brake lights are doing when in e-step/regen mode. On my Leaf it isn't always clear what's going on with them.
I've never used a camera mirror but I hadn't even thought of any of those problems. Come to think of it I'm always judging how far behind someone is with depth perception and I'm moving my head around to see around behind me. Cameras and screens for mirrors are over engineered and unessesary.
Holy crap, I need that brake light thing. I always have situations where I want to know what my brake lights are doing. For example when I want to stop cruise control but don't want to cancel it because then I have to set it again, I press the brake pedal lightly, but I want to make sure no one behind me freaks out.
The brake light monitoring feature on this car is excellent, I know Doug called it a "quirk" but it really is good for safety especially when you are in the "e-Step" pseudo one-pedal-driving mode. The brake light kicks in at exactly the right time to warn the motorists behind you to slow down. Hyundai/Kia EVs weren't doing this and got called out in other YT channels as well as Consumer Reports, Nissan is doing this feature the right way.
I was a little bit thrown off by the name and actually surprised it didn't go with pulsar for their electric line. XD Who knows maybe they'll bring back a little quirky car like that again
I think the reason for the Brake Light status screen is because a lot of people with semi-autonomous vehicles wonder if the brake lights are lighting up when the car is automatically slowing. I have a Genesis GV70, and I see a lot of "hey, are my brake lights on when the vehicle is slowly decelerating?" types of questions in the forums.
I see you Doug, with your Remember The Oilers tee shirt. Very unique, never seen the Oilers logo crossed with the Titans comet logo, and retaining our tri-stars! Cool shirt choice for a Tennessee (US) headquartered manufacturer vehicle.
I love this car for many reasons. biggest reason is because its an EV with great styling and is overall a very efficient car with great room for road trips. to me EV's are much cooler and practical than an ICE vehicle. to put it simply EV's just make sense.
Interesting how a lot of the interior is similar to the Ioniq 5, the moveable centre console, mood lighting in the doors, twin screens, HVAC controls, quirky (but different) shifter.
If the center "coffee table" is an appropriate name, than the shifter would be the "remote control". You, as the driver, would not want that to get too far from a comfortable reach. This should be called "the Golilocks Zone", not too far forward, not too far behind, but JUST RIGHT.

An e-tron audi is way more expensive than the aryia so it wont rival with it either.
@@an-dr6eu I know norther europe is doing very well and there's a ton of government incentives to help. It's not really the same here in Italy, we have one of the lowest salaries in Europe and the average new car is still 25 to 30k, whilst the Ariya starts at 51.400€ for the base model. For that price you could get a top tier Nissan X-Trail, which has one of the best hybrid systems in general and doesn't require recharging, which is still difficult here in Italy. As a dealership, we have sold more X-Trails in a month than Ariyas in a full year.

About freaking time. I found it odd that the first company to release an EV would take so long to release their second model. It looks like they made a lot of different and interesting decisions. Looks very promising. I hope they sell well.

@@iluvmusic Thank you for feedback. My family and I drive three Murano and want to exchange one of them to this toy. Could you compare internal volume of this car with Murano?
Looks like its smaller a little bit. But internally it should be the same. As it is EV and does not require much space for engine.
@@VasilyPavlik It is a little more narrow and length (no giant nose hood) and a little more narrow in width. It still has all that space the Murano has and I'm not having any issues
@@iluvmusic Thank you very much. We don't still have this car in our show-rooms. They promise to start sales in summer. So, the opinion of Murano owner is worth.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 its the worst. First, check your eyes. Second, check your brain
Sorry to say from 2024 fisker is gone
When I was at the Philadelphia Auto Show this was the number one most interested EV besides the Ford Mach E. Everyone was test driving it and it looked super nice driving by. Nissan did a good job with this.
That’s nice the brake lights let you know they’re activated because you’re using one pedal to drive and the brakes actuate without you pressing them.
Thanks for covering this. I was curious about it.
Having driven the AWD version I can say it's fairly sporty if you push it, but you still notice that it's not lightweight, so it feels as if it's got some heft to it. I'd say it's the fastest car I've driven so far by a decent margin.
the brake light thing is actually good to have. i didnt realize my brake lights weren’t functioning properly until i was pulled over twice in the same week for it. once when i found out and the second time after my fix didnt last
It won't mean your brake lights are actually functioning properly, it will just mean the car is in a re-gen phase.
Not just ''ANY'' flower ..its a 'cherry blossom' very revered in Japan, also as a homage to the Nissan Cherry.

We all hated the Mach E at launch (understandably, bc of the nameplate used), but it literally sparked a new market segment full of pretty interesting vehicles.
We just got these at my dealership a couple weeks ago. After seeing it up close, it looks really nice in a quirky way
I am glad Doug had also clearly listened to other people's feedback on explaining his score bit more, even if he doesn't explain each individual category.
@@napoleantnt5 He used to explain it really in depth, like each sub-category by itself, but at least he went back to giving us something.

Yeah that really was the killer for the Leaf. Used first gens are worthless because of that degredation.

As a 2 mo. owner of a FWD Premiere, one feature that no one mentioned, is the lower door lips that protect the interior sill from dirt, water splashes. So, when you step in the car, the sill is clean, and dry so your pants, dress hem doesn’t get dirty. Genius!
The auto mode for heated seats and steering wheel is great. Use that all the time on my car and it’s generally pretty spot on for my preferences.
9:58 my Subaru ALSO had that “look forward warning” too when it noticed your eyes off the road😂😂 Wow, Subaru must have been ahead of the game 😂
Handsome design. I'm waiting to see the longer term reviews as post-sales support, software updates, etc. are a big part of owning an EV and can't really be covered in early reviews.
I'm starting to believe that automakers are now putting these Easter eggs in their cars for Doug to find...
That hidden storage panel is def for the blicky lmao. Nissan knows the US market likes to stay strapped haha.
it’s the new altima is what people say
Right - I wanted him to say if that hidden storage box was lockable somehow because that would be the ultimate stash spot if it is lol.
I like how in the ads they say "don't get one because it's clean, get one because it pins you to your seat."

Terrific job in my favorite Nissan EV Doug.
I really like the capacitive buttons. It is also durable without warning out their signs over time.
I like the fact that Doug reviewed the "normal" version regardless of the low horsepower.
I just saw my first Ariya today (in Nashville, TN). I don't know how I missed this video from 9 months ago and how I hadn't seen this car before considering I live about 30 miles from the Nissan factory (in Smyrna, TN) and the USA HQ (in Franklin, TN)
Very nice! Seems that skateboard platforms for EVs enable a large number of configurations.
My subaru also shows when my brake lights are on. I like it because during adaptive cruise you're curious when the car starts braking.
This suv is absolutely awesome! I tried out the BASE model and it is so roomy! The front seat can easily have two buckets and a middle seat, making the Aliya a six passenger crossover.
Also, The seats were heated/cooled and ventilated The base model also has a heads up display. So much for only 43,000
*Only* $40k lol, at that price point heated and ventilated seats should be expected.

Great job, several genuine features! Kinda rare to see little "late" review from EU point of view, as this car hit the road about half a year earlier in Europe, even more early did journalists testdrive it, some even a year ago, also the names of battery and drive versions are whole different, marketing games.
Seems like the main competition is the car Doug did not mention, the VW ID-4
Maybe I'm imagining this, but I think that this is NOT the first time Doug has demonstrated an infotainment screen and had a song by the band Garbage cued up. That's pretty hip...for Doug.
"A flower petal with leaves coming off"
That's a flower with petals coming off
With that sentence I lost all hope that Doug secretly had a gay side.... that is only a sentence a straight man could say.
That center storage tray in the dash reminds me of big American cars from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, which all had something like that for the ash tray and cigarette lighter. Very cool to see that coming back as a storage tray instead.
I still can’t wrap my head around buying a nissan/ford/hyundai/kia etc for 55-60k. That’s honestly jaw dropping
For real. Automakers have completely forgot us peasants. Even the cheap cars like the Fiesta and Versa they have/had were so expensive. Most people who could afford those could afford something nicer. I guess this is why the US automotive fleet is older than ever.
Inflation
They have been expensive 5 years ago
Needs CCS and heat pump.
the button integration in the center console is actually nice and would love to see it in more cars👁️👁️
Seems like you would be accidentally hitting them all the time as that’s exactly where you’d presumably rest your arm/elbow?
Capacitive touch right where you rest your arm/palm. Would have to see how often you accidentally open the hidden compartment while driving.
In terms of EVs, this car is above everything else those brands are offering.
They always offered more value than those... Their cars are a lot more fun to drive and no where near as unreliable as people like to think.
Just noticed Dougs new channel logo, nice CarrerraGT!
@@blandgreen4135 I've only used one once and I hated it and felt extremely anxious the whole time.
Cameras also have lags. They might be small, but there's lag. You can tell if you have your hazards on.
I'm still waiting for that Galant VR4 Doug had in the preview a while back.
I anxiously await the convertible version
I'm so excited for this video!
Capacitive buttons are cool until you realize you can't find them without looking, taking your focus off the road
XD
Who knows maybe they'll bring back a little quirky car like that again
I think the reason for the Brake Light status screen is because a lot of people with semi-autonomous vehicles wonder if the brake lights are lighting up when the car is automatically slowing. I have a Genesis GV70, and I see a lot of "hey, are my brake lights on when the vehicle is slowly decelerating?" types of questions in the forums.
Very cool and futuristic, apart from those 2004 door handles
I see you Doug, with your Remember The Oilers tee shirt. Very unique, never seen the Oilers logo crossed with the Titans comet logo, and retaining our tri-stars! Cool shirt choice for a Tennessee (US) headquartered manufacturer vehicle.

The capacitive touch buttons are the coolest implementation I've seen, but they are DEFINITELY worse than real buttons
Just say no to them. I am.
Yes they look beautiful. But having a set of them right where you rest your arm or palm could be annoying. And takes your eye off the road to operate.
Interesting how a lot of the interior is similar to the Ioniq 5, the moveable centre console, mood lighting in the doors, twin screens, HVAC controls, quirky (but different) shifter.
I assume that petal/leaf motif is also a reference to and in keeping with their other EV, the Nissan Leaf
If the center "coffee table" is an appropriate name, than the shifter would be the "remote control". You, as the driver, would not want that to get too far from a comfortable reach. This should be called "the Golilocks Zone", not too far forward, not too far behind, but JUST RIGHT.
