Beautiful Bombasa...we have a friend who lives there and so we sailed to see this beautiful place..amazing..and everywhere is so deep that ships are waiting and floating around for a day or two..500 metrs.Nice to see that!I am always amazed by seeing those big ships.I hope one day I can see and take a walk on one of those ladies😊
I was stationed on Diego Garcia in the 70s. The SeaBees would get their cement from Mombasa. A ship would come every couple of weeks. The officers were English, the crew was African. The rig to load the cement (the black hoses) looked just like the one to off load. I believe they use low pressure air to move the cement thru the hoses into the silos.
- Yes, I was there a few times, we did pump the cement with about 3 bar air pressure into the silos. When the big projects have been completed, the silos on Diego Garcia have been removed and they brought cement in bags on their supply vessels. We have been treated very friendly and were allowed to make purchases in the PI-store and move around on the island. I still have some pictures of a very old crashed airplane on the beach and we got some of the big coconut-crabs.
Pro athletes on board too. So much for the fair weather. Geeze. Does that kinda thing happen often where a barge is slammed into your vessel causing giant hole to be repaired? You couldn't have been happy by that move. Stay safe and may you have only fair weather.

I worked at at Harbor Ops. I could look out of the door of my shop, and see the silos. We provided Mike Boats to help with the hose hook up.
