- Well, this one was a long time coming. With news of the TTYD remake coming out, I wanted to upload more for the game. Last video was decent, but I don't think I put my best foot forward there. So now let's rectify that with an updated challenge run using a partner that's been rather popular as of recent years! Vivian's making a comeback, and she's coming back hard!

Fiery Jinx is so dang good. It just does everything (except killing bubbles).
especially early on. later on though, it does carry thanks to Vivian's unique attributes
I was so bad with Fiery Jinx. I'm more accustomed to the button layout on an X-Box controller than I am a Switch controller. So the fact that the buttons use the same icons but in different locations on the controller messed me up so bad.

all of the buttons (other than A/B and L/R) have unique shapes, so it's easy to tell them apart at a glance

Was hoping you'd try Infatuate vs. Shadow Sirens, but knew Stopwatch was going to be the play. Doesn't seem they're only 30% weak to Stop, tbh.

Hey, just found your videos, they're pretty good. I just want too say you might want to avoid background audio with lyrics - it can just be a tad distracting too hear two distinct voices concurrently. The more generic video game music you use is great and makes it a lot easier to clearly hear you, and focus on what you're saying. As I said aside from that minor issue, great video.
I'll try and avoid music with lyrics in the future in that case.
My headcanon is that doopliss went to get a hotdog at glitzville when he got Mario's body while revelling in Mario's fame.

Typically, this is where I'd say to watch the livestreams (You all should), but this challenge wasn't streamed. That being said, A Bobbery runback might be interesting. Maybe he could beat Vivian and get 3rd place all to himself again, who knows?
Ye. I wanted to make Vivian's reprise special. May stream a future solo video, but I was busy around the time and didn't want this to be bogged down because of scheduling issues. But yeah, definitely up for giving Bobbery a go next!

This is probably just me not understanding the mechanics of the game well enough, but when the lightning sister was fully charged like that, would Veil have been a good option to avoid taking all that punishment?
That... is actually a very good question. She can only charge twice and if she had done it a second time, being fast means she would have been forced to attack after the second charge. However, Veil forfeits Vivian's next turn after she resurfaces. And hindsight's 20/20 where Marilyn could have attacked and then charged immediately after. Veil's actually a pretty poor option when Mario's not able to act unless you know a strong attack is coming and what comes after won't be as strong.

Vivian is great in a Lvl 0 setting for sure… otherwise don’t like her odds.

Anyhow, Vivian has some great moves and did pretty well (outside of needing some glitches), but Admiral Bobbery will always be my favorite partner. That Gloomtail fight was something else.
Vivian can use the same of most of Goombella’s quotes when adventuring with Mario and defeat the enemies.

Vivian was the partner I beat the Shadow Queen with.
Bobbery does 8, but Vivian does 7 (6 plus 1 Afterburn damage) and then extra afterburn damage for a few turns.
This means you could TOTALLY switch to Bobbery after one Fiery Jinx and do one EXTRA damage for said couple turns in a hypothetical "Most damage from the party" thing.
Man. Those were the days, where tons of FP were the only way seen to get heaps of damage.

Technically Goombella has the best damage output of all party members if we count Mario's damage, due to Rally Wink or whatever it was called but honestly you can't say Bobbery is better when you can use the Quick Change badge ALONE to OUTDO his damage if he were to just spam Bobom-bast.

I think Bobbery deserves his runback seeing as he's the last party member you get in the game, so before you started cheating he only had, like, three chapters to shine in.

About Vivian: The whole trans thing was actually a MASSIVE misconception. A sort of happy accident that led to her becoming a trans icon, which she doesn't really deserve. If anything, it's Birdo who deserves to be recognised for who she is.
You can have your own opinions, but she's always been cisgender to me, and even in Japan.
It's the Spanish and Italian versions of the game that takes it to heart and outright states the fact, which is perfectly fine in my opinion, but the English German and Japanese versions state that she's always been a girl.
To reiterate: I'm not trying to invalidate anyone, I'm just trying to bring a translation error "out of the shadows", so to speak.

My channel has never been one to discuss gender politics anyway. Vivian, I've only ever known as a cisgender female since I grew up playing NTSC, and her being formerly male even if it was the case in other regions wouldn't really do anything for me regardless. There's a reason I hardly allude to that debacle at all in my video.

It's more than a misconception. It was one more targeted attempt to force a narrative like Bridget. Their story wasn't that different. They were both forced to dress feminine for others motives. It's why either of them being trans makes zero sense.

Fun Fact about Vivian! In many foreign translations, she is openly a trans woman. In the Italian translation of the game, where she's instead called "Ombretta" (Little Shadow in Italian), she states that she is "proud to have become a woman". Just thought that was interesting, considering the more conservative cultures of both Japan and Italy, as well as the less progressive time period that the game was released in.

You need to go down the pipe twice to reach Twilight Town. And that meant needing to perform the glitch I used twice.

@@MDAnthony434 The game requires you to go down the pipe twice as Twilight Town rejects you unless you have some clothes with your name written on. The first time is so you can tell Frankly that you can't go down the pipe so he can direct you on what to do.

You can win with her by skipping a fight, some glitches, and items. Aside from the iron clefts you could win most fights by parrying everything.

I don't use superguards in my videos much if at all anymore. Would just completely break the challenge and I notice a lot of viewers don't like to see them.

No, I couldn't have. You're not allowed to enter Grubba's office unless he calls you inside. And the only time you have free roam in his office is your first time talking to Grubba and only if you refuse to sign the contract.
It’s interesting watching a paper Mario challenge that didn’t use superguards. They definitely would’ve made things easier for you.
Easier would be an understatement. Ultimately, I just want to give viewers reason to watch longer.

Beating paper Mario one without using Mario’s hammer or jump commands got difficult at the last bowser fight.
I want to try this challenge again in thousand year door but most of the fights in that game outclass paper Mario’s fights.

@@PhantomAarantula taking advantage of triple dip I was able to keep my fp going, committed damage to bowser through shooting star and repel gel myself in one turn.
Mostly relying on partner ability’s to attack I used Mario to take advantage of star spirit powers using all 3 deep focus badges to replenish star power.
Muskilars chill out kept bowser nerfed enough to where I wouldn’t have to worry about taking too much damace

The Gloomtail strat was pure genius. It’s incredible how perfectly the math worked out. Too bad you didn’t get the mushroom bingo during the Shadow Queen fight, that would have been crazy.
The funny thing is it could have been optimized further if I didn't worry about using the Stopwatch as soon as possible. But perfect damage would have been lost so definitely a win.

Excluding the one moment in chapter 3 that the game FORCES you to use the yoshi because plot, yes it should be very much possible...
(Unless you wanna include moments where other partners need to be used like hitting switches with koops or blowing up rocks with bobbery or blowing away...paper with flurrie or crossing large gaps with the yoshi, then in which case, no)
I don't think anyone worth their salt would include moments where partners are required in the field. That would very obviously be impossible.
This is the reason I do not include that one moment with the Yoshi in chapter 3 as part of the challenge, because it's basically required and the game forces you to do it to continue the plot and story.@@PhantomAarantula
