RIP SHIKI A legend in the BMS community, his music has touched millions across the globe. SHIKI's music got me into BMS in the first place, and it holds a special place in my heart. Gone but never forgotten.
The reason why these BMS competitions intrigue me is the simple harmony of both the artist/s' and animators' work into bringing a audio-visual experience. Whether the BGA serves as a visualizer (animation-heavy), aesthetic enhancer (words & text are present), a story, or all at the same time, its will never cease to amuse me. Don't forget all the animators/BGA creators, they all deserve appreciation along with the artists who worked with them!
to be honest, its really crazy how these song contests had evolved a ton since the beginning until present day. many artists have managed to get recognition from these song contests like xi, sakuzyo, ras, p*light, nora2r and of course, the late SHIKI (may he rest in peace). and im sure majority of these artists had the dream to compose music, and now most of their music is now in majority of music games thanks to BMS. BMS really shaped the community.

I grew up playing rhythm games and being able to see the origin of the songs that shaped my childhood was quite special. Edit: some formatting and new winner for BOFXVI
2011 is the most memorable to me, cause my favorite songs back then were Parousia, and the popular conflict. At that time, I never thought they'd make it to top 5, man I wanna go back to being a kid again.
BMS has become my favorite rabbit hole I've fallen into. So many amazing songs from so many talented artists, and equally amazing backgrounds from talented animators. Though I lack the ability to really play these files myself (mostly because I'm bad at playing 7-key), I hope to continue to see what wonders these talents will bring to the table in the future.
For BOFXVI Top 5 winners (since it's not here in the video): 1st NightTheather by *wakadori 2nd Cutter by EmoCosine 3rd Bliss by litmus* 4th 竹 by 立秋 feat.ちょこ 5th ELIMINATOR by Cosmograph
This ranking is memory lane, right here-- not just for all the songs I remember from Groundbreaking but also for some of the other older BMS songs I knew about before I became a fan of these contests. Love this music so much.
I have finally started work on a Google Site that contains links to the BMS featured in this video, check the description! It will also contain the Top 5 for BOFXVI (and by extension, future events since I don't plan on updating and reuploading this video lmao). It's still very much a work in progress but at least you have the links for the 2004 and 2005 stuff available!
ive only been listening to doujin music activly for a few years and been playing rhythm games on a nd off for the bast 7 years but i love all this music all the same. this talent from the producers to the BGA makers is way over looked by most of the internet. i feel glad and happy i get to experience it here and now
SHIKI, CrankY, -45, Sobrem (W_tre), EBIMAYO, SASAKURE.UK, 69 de 74 (and many others) = BMS banger makers I could name a bunch but i'd be here for at least an hour and I have things to do haha
ive become obsessed with BMS works lately can i also just day that i absolutely love altersist? i havent seen any other comment mention it but it really hits with me for some reason
Trying to debut as a new electronic music artist in Japan? Make BMS! Seriously, I feel that's how Silentroom, xi, and Sakuzyo made their breakthrough in the community.
You should make a new version of this video when the results of the 20th BOF event comes out because that's when its the 20th anniversary of the BMS OF FIGHTERS.
Hi! I added a Google Docs link in the description that has the links for the BOF2004 and BOF2005 songs. At some point, I might add links for everything but I hope it helps for now :)

silentroom, frums, billiummoto, kurokotei, and others also became big years later after the composers you mentioned became big.
they were even amazing all the way back in 2004… HOW

thanks for the list, very much appreciated!
2010 was really the point where we started to get the song styles that typically do well these days.
xi time™
BMS is something that is actually very different than any music works ever.
Mindblowing animations with mindblowing songs.
2011 is the most memorable to me, cause my favorite songs back then were Parousia, and the popular conflict. At that time, I never thought they'd make it to top 5, man I wanna go back to being a kid again.
2011 had amazing songs
damn straight, came here to write a comment about that
all those songs are straight bangers and i love that style so much
xi and them legends
what was the conflict? i wasn't really into doujin music at the time so i didnt know it, but recently i'm curious with the stuff in the past about BOF
conflict as in the song lol
@@eyy_man1162 what do you mean

thank you for making this compilation that can introduce BOF to more people!
it really is interesting to listen to the really old songs

i love BMS so music, it's crazy to think so much iconic rhythm game music comes from just BMS
Thanks for 10k views! (And 1 dislike finally haha)
I can't promise anymore content like this on a regular basis, but maybe when I get inspired idk
20k views, 917 likes (918 including me), and 2 dislikes. Awesome numbers
Please make it like this too in future... (Top 5 bms song 2020 -20??)
And finally no dislike anymore :)
Let me remind you
LeaF was going solo (in terms of music production) during BOFU2016...
Really cool idea and well executed, loved watching it
Damn the nostalgia of these songs, even tho. This is my first time listening fo some of them, it really gives me a 3AM vibes to it
2011 was such an amazing year
holy sht now THIS is nostalgic af
rip shiki you were the goat and bms wouldnt be where its at today without u...😢

SHIKI music is so beautiful, now im crying
wow thank you for this compilation. This really makes me want to play bms. 7k+1 is so hard though :(
I don't know why, but I absolutely adore songs like that DJ Daek song from 2006. It's the perfect mixture of absolute chaos and still a groovy song
I even wondered why it got to 3rd place.😅
七つの鍵盤のためのソナタの異質感本当好き
Thanks for compiling this
SHIKI, CrankY, -45, Sobrem (W_tre), EBIMAYO, SASAKURE.UK, 69 de 74 (and many others) = BMS banger makers
I could name a bunch but i'd be here for at least an hour and I have things to do haha
And xi. Lots of his tracks are bangers.
(IIRC, FREEDOM DiVE is a track that xi made for a BMS contest too)

can i also just day that i absolutely love altersist? i havent seen any other comment mention it but it really hits with me for some reason
Yes, altersist is really good. That's one and Valedict is one of my favorite from Void
18:08 idk but this one had me laugh lol.
Out of this all tops 5's, my favorite is the one at 27:04, its really fit my taste
あのJack◆が11年前....意味もなく泣きそうになるわ....
The 1 dislike is the producer that didn't got in one of the 5 songs
Trying to debut as a new electronic music artist in Japan?
Make BMS!
Seriously, I feel that's how Silentroom, xi, and Sakuzyo made their breakthrough in the community.
Altaleからのゴリライザーで盛大に草生え散らかした
Some of them are really cracked like Flash dance and Rush More
I see so many videos in here that Porter Robinson was referencing in virtual self.
You should make a new version of this video when the results of the 20th BOF event comes out because that's when its the 20th anniversary of the BMS OF FIGHTERS.
So I went from a deep rabbit hole from rhythm games and did not regret a single bit
IMO Nhelv blows everything out of the water.
It's super cool but, I wish there was also the name of the BGA artists
AragamiからAltaleの繋がりで震えた
Glad you enjoyed it!
CO5MIC R4ILR0AD was like the cleanest BMS ngl

it's illegal to see BMS top songs without Frums being in it
Agree with me or not, but Sakuzyo's Altale is ahead of it's time.
It's such a beautiful song
I don't really understand what bofu is but it looks interesting

LeaF.

I am mad that credits wasn't in here
Credits barely made the top 30 of BOFU2015, Frums was still unknown at the time.
credits was ranked 30th at that time, not 5th and above
It's cool and all but it's seriously far from the best thing Frums has made

why is the song average without vocals?
