All I can say is what an enormous difference an outline makes when writing a book! This is a game changer. Thank you so much for this amazing advice. 👍🏻
Kelly, I've just completed the HayHouse 7 Day challenge and watching this has just 'firmed up' what you were saying during that course. I'm feeling inspired and ready to write! Thank you.
Thank you for your inspiring golden nuggets to help with my writing process. I wish I knew about your offerings earlier in my membership with the Hay House Writing Community. Better late than never!
Great explanations about the writing process and using outlines fast into software. As a composer of original music themes for book trailers about comics that are performed on the guitar, your examples are informative about writing techniques which help readers better understand stories we read. Thanks vital for writing narratives for book trailers that promote and represent content from stories. I also like your excitement which inspires musicians like me who perform orignal music that represents such excitement for stories/characters while also promoting them. So insightful!
Yay! Thanks for getting the book. We hope you find it super helpful! If you do find that it is a good resource for you, we would be most grateful if you would add a review on Amazon to help others find it as well! link: www.amazon.com/review/create-review/?ie=UTF8&channel=glance-detail&asin=1401955606
@@knliteraryarts I was hoping to use Scrivener, but I use a Chromebook and apparently it won't work with this. Do you know of a good alternative that works with Chrome OS Kelly?
Thank you so very much! I just purchased Scrivener! YAY! I love your enthusiasm and your dedication to ALL writers! You are incredibly talented, Kelly! Blessings, Dee Dee
Hi Kelly. Thank you for advising us to create an outline and show us how practical Scrivener is. What I wish my readers would not lose however is how events succeed one another sometimes as a consequence of another event, I am not sure it will be seen with the new organisation. Mary Carr advises us to write chronologically, which I prefered to do at first. Maybe you are right.
Good point! Writing chronologically is great. An outline can help get those chronological events down, so you are sure to capture the details as you sit down to begin writing about that particular event.
I couldn't get into Scrivener for some reason. So I just used chapter headings for all my scenes, that way they were in a TOC and I could go to them at any time and stay in the same document and then I just removed them as I placed each one where I wanted them to be. It's just easier for me. And When I wanted to add to a scene it was easy to find and I could have the outline right beside my doc.
I'm a pantser, but I do believe in having an outline. I'm not a big fan of spending forever on my outline though. I will take all this to heart. I love scrivener. I'm not apple user but thankfully they have it for pcs as well. I had it for years just never used it. it's time to dust it off and give outlining an go.
Hi Kelly!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I've just discovered you and your tips, instruction, and insights are invaluable. I wrote my PhD thesis several years ago and the resource I credit for empowering me to do it is Joan Bolker's "Writing Your Dissertation in Fifteen Minutes a Day". My copy of the book is threadbare lol. It was a GODSEND!!! I feel like your content is becoming a similar foundational resource for me! You're helping me expand and apply the skills I learned from Joan to creating a popular, fun memoir (about being an Opossum Mom lol). Many of the concepts of creation are the same, but I was stuck when it came to creating a cohesive book of scenes/stories (as opposed to a 350-page research thesis). I also learned one phrase/mantra (from Deborah Cameron's book "Working with Spoken Discourse") that propelled me through my PhD and I think it applies to all book creation: "All it takes is one good idea, pursued methodically and presented well" (page 180). Anyway, thank you again! I will be watching (and rewatching) and making use of your wonderful resources. The stories I want to share are all about working and living with opossums (the opossums I live with have amassed a collective 340K followers on Instagram & Facebook under Sesame the Opossum) and the people along the way who are making the adventure exciting and surprising. XOXO

Hi Kelly, My name is Rosemarie and I have been following your channel for awhile . Thank you for your gracious and giving heart to share your skills with us. It is very much appreciated. I am writing an Anthology book with a group of twelve other writers all sharing their stories. I am trying to make sure we have the correct format for an Anthology. Can some of of the stories have the format of a teaching memoir within the Anthology or do they all have to just be stories? Thank you kindly. Rosemarie. ❤
Hi Rosemarie, I'm so glad that you are enjoying the videos! When writing an Anthology book, it's absolutely fine to have a blend of different formats. If you are looking for detailed writing templates to help you along the way, click the link below! resources.knliterary.com/3-Classic-Book-Outlines

This PC of mine is obviously connected to the web, and I do write on this web-connected PC often. However, my book writing PC is a PC which I prefer to keep detached from online connections. Can I expect any problems downloading Scrivener to this particular PC, while subsequently attempting to transfer that file to my off-line PC (oh the eccentricities you coaches have to deal with)?
Please check out Scrivener's purchasing page for more information on multiple licensing. Their customer service should be able to answer specific questions: www.literatureandlatte.com/store/scrivener?tab=Windows
Great question, Eric! There isn't a straightforward answer, as even that genre is rather broad! Getting down to the niche of your book will help you find your audience, as you'll be able to see how other books with similar themes are doing in the world. There are lots of resources online and at local libraries that can help you find the demographics you seek.
I'm adding here now to update you and say I found the way to get the selecting of "Project Templates" so I'm just going to delete what I wrote before. :) Thanks for the link to this video, Kelly! P.S. I must add that I love your OUTLINE - I am thoroughly convinced now to do one and make it my top priority in my current daily writing hours. Plus: I'm wondering if you and Reid are familiar with Steven Pressfield's "The War of Art"? His book convinced me to write everyday and see myself as a professional!
So wonderful to hear, Brenda! Outlines truly make the work clearer and easier to navigate. They're such an important tool. And "The War of Art" is a classic that has helped many people! It's a wonderful title to have in your arsenal to help inspire your writing. Again, thanks for watching!
@@knliteraryarts This video of yours showing your own personal outline for your book (which btw, I'm not afraid to read anymore - I would feel overwhelmed before each time I opened your book!), is my saving grace.
