"There are seven forces that sort of control things. And one of them, whose domain is time, is a normal lobster." - Runesmith, once again trying to tell us CritCrab is holding him hostage.
It's obviously not Critcrab.
Wrong crustacean.

@@daltonsharp6254 Well no, but damn close to it
@@Americanbadashh
For the adult lobsters as they get older it gets harder for them to break free from the current armor they have do to the chitinous shell being harder and also tougher to break, if the adult lobster fails to break free from its shell in it's later life it will die in its shell from either being crushed, exhausted, and or being suffocated, The lobster can also die from either exhaustion or impaledment if it managed to break free out of it's shell.
@@Americanbadashh if it wasn’t for exhaustion from shelling or other causes in the above comments, lobsters would keep growing FOREVER.
This is why we're going to help an elder lobster get it's shell off for eons and worship it as a leviathan monster god.

@@knightx6263 there's a homebrew crabfolk race that I play as, found it on the web they do 1-d6 slashing damage with their claws that scale with strength
Funny thing about Mantis Shrimp, we assumed for a long time that they have super advanced sight, due to the fact that they have potentially up to 16 types of receptors in their eyes, rather than just the 3 we have.
However, scientists basically found out that they have many more because their brains don't combine colors like we do, instead opting for a different (and lower energy cost) way to process light. As a result, they have receptors to see individual wavelengths which this lets them recognize things (like movement) a lot faster, but also gives them lacking color vision. Like, they might see a rose and an apple as two different intensities of red, when we might recognize one as red and one as pink.
To add Shrimps having poor eyesight
Their smaller but also Weapon Shrimp relative the Pistol Shrimp is the closest Mant-i relationship irl
Due to their poor eyesight they decide to Team Up with Goby Fish soo they can hunt well while the Goby is their Eye Support Partner which would be a really cool aspect for a Pistol Shrimp Race
Also like their Smasher Mantis Variant the Pistol Shrimp can create Heat by pure friction
It is somewhat more complicated on the color thing still, as their cocurrent sight also kind of extends a lot farther than our own vision. We are still learning more about it but the variances such a perspective has is quite interesting
@@RenoKyrie Imagine fighting someone who is like two feet smaller than you and get your legs fucking broken and your armor melted on to your skin by these guys.
@@ThefifthBishopofGord Its not even broken anymore, straight up disintigrated
Because the Friction Heat caused by Pistol Shrimp Claw is like, the surface of the Sun
You either being Punched by a Sun from Smasher Mantis Shrimp or get Shot by a Sun from Pistol Shrimp
@@RenoKyrie That sounds like they cast fire ball by hitting you. Like the the one that stabs you it casts fireball with an aoe in is a line shape and the one that punches casts fireball normally. And also due to the fact they cause that amount of heat their claws should be heat resistant and/or deal fire damage when doing unarmed strikes.

I already wanna make a way of the Drunken Master big fist Mant-i. He became an alcoholic because his partner died. That sounds like a lot of fun; really excited to see more about them so I can fully make this character.
You really gotta style him after a mantis shrimp.
@@chukyuniqul oh yeah for sure.
@@InqMozgus have you prehaps heard of pistol shrimp?
Honestly? Most crustacean species are absurdly strong for their size. People don't really realize but 70% of a lobster or shrimp's body is pure muscle factoring in the tail, and a coconut crab has enough strength to, as the name implies, tear apart a coconut.
I love your character idea, and I think you should go for it, but lemmie tell you: A wrestling character based off of a coconut crab would be _terrifying._ Scaling up for size, they'd probably be able to tear a man apart with their bare hand...claws.
Club type Mantis Shrimp have a punch equal to a .22 gun going off, can cause cavitation bubbles to form on the poor bastard getting punched, and require renforced inches thick glass to even keep them contained
So yes, humanoid versions of that will definitely anime punch you a bloody pulp
And thats just the Club Mantis Shrimp
Look at the Pistol Shrimp, they will disintigrate your body with just their Pistol Claws
One Punch Shrimp!
That's wrong the clun typrmantis shrimp has the same acceleration not the same total force, as they only travel a small amount the top speed reaches 99.6 kmh/60mph if it did have the force of a 0.22 gun it'd literally explode things.
Pistol shrimp are extremely pathetic when it comes to damaging things ,they're herbivores and the pistol is a communication device used to warn of danger showing where food is and other things like that. It scares other things off because it's super loud ,I've seen people stick their hand I the tank and get clicked on and nothing happened, the cavitation bubble does reach the temperature of the sun but only for a few milliseconds causing a loud snap and nothing else.
@@oiltoast3723 I'm not really sure where you got the information about pistol shrimp being herbivores. Most are omnivores, as are most shrimp, and are opportunistic scavengers who primarily eat dead animals and organic detritus, but will also go after live prey and occasionally eat things like algae.
You are quite right about the pistol shrimp's snap not damaging things, but that's really not how the hunting method works. Small animals are stunned, only rarely outright killed, and are then eaten, typically after getting dragged into the shrimp's burrow. Larger animals aren't as affected, but the shrimp will use their 'gun' to scare off potential predators as you describe.
That said, it _is_ absolutely true that any claims that a pistol shrimp could hurt or even kill a human are wildly exaggerated. And a pistol shrimp person's offensive weaponry would be pretty near useless outside of the water.
@@WoobooRidesAgain Oh, thanks for the info.

Honestly thank you for this. We need more crazy aquatic based player races. I just met these lobster boys ten minutes ago but I will defend them with my life.
this is like- the ONLY dnd module kickstarter I'd actually consider pledging to, it sounds cool as hell 👁
Fantastic race template, work in a sub-type based on a Decorator Crab. Little guys start lives obsessively hooking whatever rotten detritus they can find to their shells, in order to camouflage themselves, but as they get older and less vulnerable they start to obsessively grab brighter and gaudier things to "wear". Would make an awesome archetype for droods.
So Tamatoa?
Already imagining a seafaring themed campaign with two players playing Mant-i as an anti-pirate vigilante duo, complete with Ginyu force style posing as they leap from the sea to Space Jam privateers and scallywags like a delicious Ornstein and Smough

Fun fact
smasher mantis shrimp punch with the acceleration of a 22 caliber bullet but not the force
They can achieve this due to a specialised sadle that acts like a spring
However spearer mantis shrimp usually lack this saddle and instead use their mussels
This is due to them hunting soft body prey so accuracy and reach are more important than the shear ludicrous speed and force smashers have
Thank you for coming to my ted talk
I briefly played an Ula'Ula Ancestral barbarian whose spectral fighters was a pair of Man-ti. He liked fighting with his large claws and had an obsession with boats, fishing and shiny things. I have always loved the idea of crustacean people
The giant lobster with 4hp can make sense if the DM is complacent enough. Being from a region undermined with conflict, the lobster lost a lot of limbs, and so it's hp is low. But as jt levels up, it changes its exoskeleton, recovering some limbs and getting its hp back
Lobsters don't turn red until they are boiled, so you did alright.
3:59 How have I never know about this?! I thought were a completely different sub species!
It certainly makes there name more appropriate!
You say the Mant-I would be harder to roleplay, but actually, I think the addition of an genuine, tangible tradition that the player must abide by or break helps add a whole extra layer and direction to a character without too much more effort on the player's behalf. Think of all the neat interactions as a Mant-I tries to find that true synergising feeling amongst other species and classes, eventually discovering the party member they gel with most after a long journey together. And the drama should that party member die, too.
I've been wanting to play a mirelurk for a while now thanks
