    Or how AC gets physics right, dogg.
    My take on the difference between the two top sims. Come with me on a journey of hot takes, bad animation, and a whooole lot of time spent sifting through youtube videos to cut out clips.
    What do you think? Which sim wore it better?

    I have a very similar background in cars, being an instructor, road racer, drifter, autox, e-karting, tag karts, 2stroke etc ( basically anything that i can compete in on wheels ) and having raced on many road courses across the midwest in many types of cars for racing and street use, I have been saying this about not just Iracing in particular but even some of the games like Forza Motorsport 7 where recovery is nearly impossible at times because of the tire physics.
    Your example at the entry to left turn at Laguna Seca has happened to me so many times its almost as bad as flashbangs in counter strike in terms of frustration in a game that makes you lose all hope LOL. Being on the limit with those small minor inputs and trimming of the gas and brake is what makes me race even harder because it feels so invigorating to be able to move a car with that level of precision and purpose because you've fused with it. Iracing takes that away from me in a lot of aspects and the triangle cliff of grip no doubt is a great analogy.

We both were watching AC prologue event organised by Polish Automobile Association responsible for nation's wide championships. There were some professional drivers invited as guests and during this event they were asked some basic questions about simracing, including “what is the best platform and why?”. Gosia Rdest said more or less that iR physics is way better and AC is years behind (not literally but this is how I perceived her approach). Suddenly there appeared a thought in my mind: Wait the minute, if iRacing is so great, why you cannot drift there. If it is so great, why you have to drive exactly in the same way as you were trying to sketch something using ruler. If you go one millimeter off the line, you are screwed. And this is out of whack! I bought a whole group of racing sims, including AC, which I have fallen in love with. In the RW, you go to the track expecting to drive on the limit, do your best, try to win, etc. But you do NOT expect to wreck the car.
    I do entire race weekends in AC without wrecking the car. In fact, I hardly EVER wreck, unless I'm just trying something because I know there are no consequences. In iRacing, probing the limits as you do in the real world consistently leads to disaster.

      I'll have to disagree. If you quit iRacing 10 years ago then you don't have an accurate opinion. I recently switched from AC to iRacing and it's miles better in terms of realism and even graphics if you care about that. In AC you can drive the car at the limit, that's because it's super easy. iRacing is way more challenging because it's actually realistic

      @@RabbitConfirmed Actuakly, you can drift in iRacing 😅. Literally did it today and you can also look up countless videos of it online. It’s just super easy and idiot-proof in AC so that’s why it’s more popular there. iRacing has a different demographic, which is simmers that are looking for the most realistic physics and best competition. Drifting isn’t sought after there so there’s not much content for it. That’s why most professional racers use iRacing or rFactor2. AC isn’t even in the picture because it’s arcade in comparison.

    • @RabbitConfirmed

      And I find it funny that you compare iRacing to rFactor2. Because rFactor2 might actually have the most realistic physics in the industry. iRacing however does not.
      "That’s why most professional racers". No they don't. Real life professional racers use custom made simulators to actually train, if they ever use iRacing then just for the fun of the online competition, because that's what iRacing is good at. What you mean is maybe some of these professional Simulator Racers. But there again, the only reason they chose iRacing over AC is because of all the better online implementation. And most of them play either F1 or faster GT races where you don't even feel the difference in physics so much anymore, because your car is basically on rails anyways.

    Loved this video and every point you made.
    I tried iRacing in the Miata(which I tracked irl, not the cup tho) and I just couldn't understand why I got to limit, managed to control the countersteer for a split second then just flew off track all the time.
    It only happened there, the "realistic racing experience" whereas in AC, other sims and real life I can catch a slide or intentionally drift just fine.
    This is the reason why I'm convinced that if AC had iRacing's online experience no one would be playing the second right now(expect hardcore muricans, they really love to turn left it seems).
    Recently I found the World Sim Series website/community which is the closest AC will probably get to that, and it's free.
    The feel, the modding scene, the "recent" graphical updates(Custom Shader Patch, Sol etc) on Assetto just make it the best all around simulator that's ever been made and I'm quite sure it'll take years to get something close to that.

    Possibly the greatest video on this subject in the history of YT. I'm not much of a drifter but the ability to catch a slide in AC is phenomenal, not so much in iRacing. I've only tried a couple of cars in Automobilista so far but it seems like it's got a leg up on iRacing already based solely on drivability. For example, as a former kart racer I thought I'd try the 125cc kart and just fling it into a corner as a kart racer would and what do you know, I didn't spin and the rear tires still felt grippy not like ice racing as many cars do in iRacing.

    @Chris-ew9mh 4 роки тому +1

    That really explains why I can get lap records for various classes at tracks in real life but iRacing just doesn't agree with my propensity to slightly over drive the car to dance on the limits. Granted I've worked at reducing how far I push the limits of a car to reduce wear and tear on everything and actually improve lap times but iRacing definitely has a much steeper drop off of traction and control once you reach 100% limits, it can be VERY unforgiving so usually I end up under driving too much which doesn't win races in real life either. Still these simulators are good tools to get me familiar with a track much quicker than I would if I had to do my own scouting laps with only a track map and some youtube videos as assistance.

    I just hopped back in iRacing for the first time in a while and I realized something interesting. It is faster in iR (and in my experience, ONLY in iR) to drive the car too far under the limit. Just did a race at Watkins Glen in the Mustang, and rotatiing the car on the edge, and trying to carry that momentum out of the corner for a good run onto the long straights is literally impossible. In iRacing you do one or the other, not both, because the tires just break loose and stay that way long after the grip should have returned. The car is a ton of fun, but it's really weird dialing it back so far and then suddenly going two second quicker. That is how I used to get so many wins on the ovals too. Nowhere near as fun to race like that either, and it doesn't track with my real world experience at all. People say Assetto Corsa is too oversteer heavy, but in my experience, that is how the car should feel. AC just feels right. rF2 just feels right. PC2 feels right (the FFB doesn't and some cars are just as weird), iRacing only feels right at around 80% of the cars performance. You push beyond that, and the tires just give up completely. You can have drivers running way faster then you, despite driving about as sloppy as humanly possible. I realized this after the race as I watched the replay to figure out where I was going wrong, because I had practiced on the same car track combo in AC and since they FELT so similar I figured it could carry over. But I lost 3.5 seconds in iR compared to AC, while applying the same driving style in iR. I slowed down and just babied the car around in iR and then boom, 2 seconds out of nowhere. Where's the fun in that? Precision is the easy part. It's the technique that I enjoy trying to perfect, and sadly in iR a lot of that technique goes to waste in a lot of cars because of this issue. And that sucks because if you ignore the ridiculous price, the sim would be the top dog if not for the janky way the tires behave. You'd think after what, 15 years?, they'd have figured this out. what's funny is if you know the sims origins then you know where the problem comes from. Old NR2003 has a much more exaggerated version of the same problem. In that game, if you so much as tried to trailbrake into a corner without some power on to keep it stable, the tires would effectively light themselves on fire. I will say, as a result of all of this, if you can wrap your head around it, racing competitively in iRacing is a much more laid back affair so long as you limit your mistakes. But when you do make a mistake, be prepared to be sent into the shadow realm.

  • @isaiahharris1029
    @isaiahharris1029 4 роки тому +1

    This is very relevant as I just switched from Iracing to AC. And you made the main point. Iracing forces you to drive in certain manner where as ac allows you to drive....well, how you want to drive. I actually bought it to practice drifting.

    It's good someone is doing videos about it and more people start the discussion. I feel like iRacing physics are perfect for pure racing and going 2W in corners, and this is why I enjoy it so much, but when you start to play with these cars you notice something is fishy with these physics and it's not exactly how cars IRL behave. From all iR cars I think Skippys with new tire model feel the most realistic, you can twich them in corners and get away with even bigger slides.

    • @NikRomanoRacing
      @NikRomanoRacing  4 роки тому +1

      I've been hearing that about the Skippy cars. Which is kinda funny, actually. I used to be a Skip instructor so I have a lot of time in those cars IRL. You could definitely play with rotation, but they have a very limited amount of steering angle, so that's a car that you actually do have to be pretty careful with, or end up spun.
