I’d love to see Mommie Dearest remade properly. Not campishly. Using proper actresses and based on primary sources which tell the story in a less sensationalist and truer way. Would be great to see modern day actresses playing the roles and a much better screenplay than the botched 70s version. I think if it was directed and acted properly there would be great renewed public interest in the story. Especially with everything we know now about abuse within families, and so on. Since the 70s and 80s there has been groundbreaking work done in psychotherapy on abuse and so all of that would inform a sincere remake of Mommie Dearest. Since the #me too movement, remakes are renewed opportunities to look at old Hollywood with fresh eyes, and unpack the Psychopathology of abuse and exploitation of women and minorities.
Considering Joan had other children and a grandchild who adored her, it's amazing why people are so keen to believe a woman who has dined out on her mothers death bed for years. If you are so abused as a child then seeking the public spotlight does not make any sense. You would be withdrawn and non confident. Perhaps one day a true to life film on Christina would be welcome. Before she dies and without her permission. There is something not right about this and never has been. Faye Dunaway regretted taking the part in the end and realised all was not as it seemed.
Joan Crawford was a beautiful woman especially when she was young. The camera loved her face. My two favorite actresses were Crawford and Betty Davis. When they were young, I always thought Joan's eyes were just as gorgeous as Betty's. There will never be another two actresses like them. I hated everything about "Mommie Dearest." I think it was an exaggerated and in may cases fictional story told by a jealous non-grateful daughter left out of her Will. She and her brother could have had a lot more difficult life if they had stayed in that Orphanage. RIP Joan Crawford.
These are GREAT-please keep them coming!!👍 And for whatever it’s worth, there’s a photo from the early 50s showing Joan with the great Édith Piaf who’s heard here singing “Hymne a L’Amour.”😁
Joan herself said she loves children so that should end all the lies. I think Joan was a great mother, maybe too sweet but we all have our faults. She’s my favorite actress and she was almost too beautiful for the camera 🎥.
i think part of the problem is that christina tried to follow in joan's footsteps and break into acting. that didn't work out too well because she barely had a tenth of joan's talent. and she was mad about that. the will was only part of it.
omg that supermarket clip at 1:09! I remember that crazy spot Joan did - she bought some child a "weirdo" from a gumball machine and took her around the store, buying ingredients for "gazpacho". It was a grocery store industry promotional video of some kind, I think.
These comments are gold, but I still wonder why some comments/reply’s get so heated. It’s Christina’s business what she wants to write about for her book just like it was Joan’s business what she put on her will. Well, it was each their on business but both Joan and Christine put their business out there to make it everybody else’s business, thus all this never ending spectacle. And now me included in the drama train lol. If Christine exaggerated because she felt slighted for the way Joan singled her and the brother out of the Will that’s her business. Joan got “her jab in” to Christina by creating the will expressing her stance and Christina got “her jab in” by writing her book to express her stance. For those who fault Christina’s book, they should equally fault Joan’s last will and testament and vise versa. The will is no different from the book, both are an expression of hurt feelings put on paper for the world to bare witness and neither is necessarily right or wrong. But all this heated discourse is great reading and gives more insight from different perspectives.
It's so weird how the account of Crawford's and Christina's relationship is so inconsistent. Actress Myrna Loy, a close friend of Crawford's, was appalled by Christina's book. "I worked with Christina and saw how that mind operates," she said. "She would not do a single thing that anyone told her to do." Eventually Christina, who Loy admitted had great potential, was fired from the play for her unprofessionalism and abject stubbornness.
You find it strange that a close friend of Joan’s saw her illegally adopted teenage daughter as obstinate and disobedient at a time when children were to be “ seen and not heard ?? “ Are you aware the head mistress of Christina’s boarding school confirms everything in her book including the fact that Joan refused to pay basic fees for her to participate in activities with the other kids ?? So much so that Christina’s own teachers would pay out of pocket for her ?? Joan also gave instructions to the school to destroy Christina’s clothes save one uniform after Christina stood up for herself on a home visit. Amazing that in 2022 people will still struggle to believe kids when they say they survived an abusive parent. 😑

@@bettyhappschatt3467 Christina Crawford claims in "Mommie Dearest" that she was strangled by Joan Crawford in the summer of 1953. Here is how she describes this incident in her book: "The choking pain of her fingers around my throat met the thudding ache of the blow to the back of my head. She banged my head on the floor, tightening her grip around my throat....I gasped for air and felt myself sinking into unconsciousness as I tried desperately to fight back....If something or someone didn’t help me very soon I was going to die. I tried with the last bit of my strength to struggle free of those choking fingers and managed to wedge one of my knees between her body and mine and push upward on her ribs with my hands which loosened her grip slightly. It at least allowed a trickle of air down my throat and kept me from losing consciousness." This type of physical attack would, no doubt, leave bruises to the neck and throat. However, according to Christina, she had no bruises to the neck or throat, and the bruises she claims to have received to the face were greatly diminished within "a few days." This is what Christina Crawford said regarding her "injuries" after this alleged strangulation: "I had one black eye and a cut on my upper lip that was swollen and covered with dried blood. My whole face was sort of puffy and I had a perfect handprint bruised across one cheek....A few days later I was on my way back to the Chadwick’s house...I still had vestiges of the black eye but the rest of my face had returned pretty much to normal." This claim is medically impossible. Bruises to the face take at least a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks to fade. Perhaps this was a quick rationale by Christina in her book to account for no one seeing these "injuries" after she returned to Chadwicks. By 1988. Christina Crawford claimed in her book "Survivor" that the stroke she suffered in late 1981 was the result of this "strangulation." Christina claimed the strangulation caused an embolism (a blood clot) that blocked the flow of blood to her brain, and this embolism had lied dormant for over 28 years (1953 - 1981) without causing issue before it dislodged and flowed to her brain. This claim, in and of itself, is medically improbably, if not impossible. However, the impossibility is further enhanced when considering that Christina did not even have bruising to her throat from this alleged strangulation. In "Survivor" Christina writes: "In the hospital the doctors questioned me as thoroughly as they could about possible causes of my stroke. They were interested in what might have been a source of original damage to the left carotid artery in my neck since I had no history of high blood pressure or high cholesterol. They asked me about a car accident or a neck injury. I had experienced none. The only incident I could think of was a violent argument my mother and I had when I was thirteen years old. She had been drinking at the time and flew into a rage. I recalled this incident in the book Mommie Dearest, not knowing at the time I wrote about it that I would later have a stroke" This outrageous allegation is further debunked by a 1978 sworn deposition, whereby Christina DENIES knowledge of this incident. Along with a interview with the secretary (Billie Greene) who was an eye witness the evening Christina claimed this strangulation took place. Greene refuted the claim that Joan strangled or choked Christina. **ChristinaCrawfordLied**

I don't think Christina was a liar at all. Actually, I think both women had things to hide and strictly had a toxic relationship. "When Christina was at Chadwicks, she would tell some lies. Like the lengths Joan would go through to see that she had everything to get back to school. Shoes, dresses, etc. I don’t know what Christina would do with them between Brentwood and school, but she would arrive with a couple of beat up, old dresses and the call would come from Chadwicks. “Couldn’t you send this girl one decent thing to wear?” I got Christina in my office one day and said, “Christina, what did you do? All those things we picked out and packed and got ready for you that you chose?” She said, “I gave them to my friends,” and I said, “What does this do? Make you a hero with your friends?” and she said, “No, I just wanted to.” I said, “Don’t you know what you do to your mother when you make her look cruel and evil and selfish?” and she said, “No, it’s just something I like to do. I like to give my clothes away.” On more than one occasion I found Christina to be an opportunist, dishonest and distorting everything, every single actions of her mother.”

@@bettyhappschatt3467 Christina Crawford claims in "Mommie Dearest" that she was strangled by Joan Crawford in the summer of 1953.
Here is how she describes this incident in her book:
"The choking pain of her fingers around my throat met the thudding ache of the blow to the back of my head. It at least allowed a trickle of air down my throat and kept me from losing consciousness."
This type of physical attack would, no doubt, leave bruises to the neck and throat. However, according to Christina, she had no bruises to the neck or throat, and the bruises she claims to have received to the face were greatly diminished within "a few days."
This is what Christina Crawford said regarding her "injuries" after this alleged strangulation:
"I had one black eye and a cut on my upper lip that was swollen and covered with dried blood. My whole face was sort of puffy and I had a perfect handprint bruised across one cheek....A few days later I was on my way back to the Chadwick’s house...I still had vestiges of the black eye but the rest of my face had returned pretty much to normal."
This claim is medically impossible.
In "Survivor" Christina writes:
"In the hospital the doctors questioned me as thoroughly as they could about possible causes of my stroke. I recalled this incident in the book Mommie Dearest, not knowing at the time I wrote about it that I would later have a stroke"
This outrageous allegation is further debunked by a 1978 sworn deposition, whereby Christina DENIES knowledge of this incident. Along with a interview with the secretary (Billie Greene) who was an eye witness the evening Christina claimed this strangulation took place. Greene refuted the claim that Joan strangled or choked Christina.

You mean the only employee that was able to last by her side for years while the countless others fled or were fired? Sounds like brainwashing or a trauma bond, she was NOT the norm much less a credible henchman
Hillary Clinton cackling in Joan and Christina 🧹🧹🧹🧹
That was a toxic relationship from birth to death.
Yes I agree the relationship between joan and christina was emotionally troubled and violent.so sad.both were beautiful and talented women.
@@eugenekozma2697 Even though Christia was adopted, she picked up Joan's demeanor to compete. That is what created the "bad blood" between them...the love, hate relationship.
@@ceasarandrepont1243 yes it was a dysfunctional household for christina to grow up in.she had to adopt toughness to survive.
@@eugenekozma2697 Yes, absolutely but look at Joan's life. Once, anyone can understand Joan's upbringing, then we (the public) can be sympathetic...maybe?
@@ceasarandrepont1243 I do sympathize with joan up to a point.she had a violent unstable childhood which resulted an unbalanced life as a woman.like over 100 years ago when joan crawford was a child there was no services for children.joan was a talented actress.i recently got humoresque on dvd.i watched it yesterday.i just loved loved loved Joan's performance.oh she was so lovely to look at in black and white.oh how she sparkled.no wonder why men fell for her.

Cheap and tawdry ploys to exploit Joan Crawford’s memory…. And I just can’t get enough!! 😂
Hahaha
I don't think Christina was a liar at all. Actually, I think both women had things to hide and strictly had a toxic relationship. Christina was probably rebellious because she had an abusive, alcoholic mother. Look into it, it is noted she had high anger and hit the booze quicker than anything else. Yes, Joan was an on screen goddess but that doesn't mean she didn't act out in violent ways. I think they had a better relationship as the years went on; maybe still not the best but some improvement. None of us were there, so we can't just judge and say "it happened"
She was a liar and almost all her claims have been debunked. There are people who are compulsive liars, and she is one of them. She exacted revenge on her mother following her death because she was cut out of the will. It is as simple as that.
.....
Christina lied.
Christina was a liar
Still is.
It's interesting that Joan mentions "discipline" when talking about children in several interviews I've seen.
