Looks like the dimension where they don't have exploding consoles full of rocks. That's a plus.
LOL
Still laughing. Oh man, that's good stuff.
Rocks?? Did you also watched junk all media? I think he firstly spokes of rocks that are spreading during exploding consoles..
I hope the future keeps this because they can talk about techno Babel and I just bring rocks for display
Haha!
Poor Worf.
One of the few times he's given the order to fight in a battle and he's like: "Someone changed my desktop!!"
I don't have the *exact* LCARS layout variations to hand, but I'm sure UI design in the 24th century would have evolved to fairly important things like "Shields Up" / "Shields Down", being fairly prominent on the security workstation :)
@@leighsaunderson9203 yes but in an alternate universe anything is possible. Anything.
That’s Vista for ya!
Nah, Data changed it from his station in retaliation to Worf ignoring his query
If that visitor one the bridge once (forget which it was) almost fired photon torpedos with a button press, I’m sure one could easily find the shields. Or like just Red Alert.
"The icons are all different... omg this is Windows not Mac."
Had that been the case, he could have done the job.
Or worse, what if instead of a desktop GUI he just had a blinking terminal command prompt >_
It's the other way around, Kelvin Universe Enterprise is Apple, Worf can't find the Start button because Microsoft removed it! :D
Everyone can use Windows as it makes sense, no one can nor would use Mac!
@@cujoedaman If the Enterprise was Apple it would never have left Farpoint!
Interesting that in this parallel universe, being at Red Alert doesn't automatically raise the shields like in every other universe the Enterprise exists in! The writers had to make the Cardassians more of a threat, since in universe one Galor class warship is no match for a Galaxy class starship.
Yes true
Without shields an old BoP is a match.
@@2bituser569 Pre Dominion War yes, but after the Dominion war refit no.
@@2bituser569 no, rikers failure was to not order fire at will...
Red alert is a condition setting, not a voice command that automatically brings the ship's systems to that condition; under normal circumstances the crew does that from their stations. The officer at tactical's job is to push the button(s) for that and it appears Worf shifted at the worst possible time. The computer is certainly capable of it if asked or pre-configured, as has been demonstrated when a ship is under-crewed or even being operated by one person. I figure if someone is "logged in" to the tactical console as he was, the computer wouldn't intervene unless specifically directed with another command.
Everybody Denies Worf: The Episode
So status quo for The Next Generation then
This is what happens when you disregard Data, he hacks your console
More like "the series" for TNG but at least he got more leeway on DS9
Yet Worf can transport to the bridge of an alien space ship and instantly figure out how to bypass the warp conduit sending emergency power to the reactor containment field.
You might say he knows his way around every console existing in the universe!
Sadly only his, huh...
But in this case he was very irretated by changing universes xD
I love it how Riker and Picard repeatedly keep looking back at Warf with the dirtiest looks you can imagine without actually spitting in his face.
What happened to the command to the computer " shields up" haha. and yeah red alert I thought automatically made shields raise and armed all the weapons.
@@cranbers It was a different universe. Apparently in that one shields must be manually activated.
This made me laugh, thanks ! Damn RACISTS !
@@SMP0328 ST E they made it sound like is where it came from "reed alert" chargers weapons and polorizes the hull plating and activates automatically. Guess they didnt have reed in that universe.
Worf.
You know you can tell the computer to raise the shields, right Picard?
And in addition, I’m certain that command can be given from other stations such as Ops
In the Trek Universe we are familiar with the Red Alert comes with the automated raising of the shields.
This parallel universe did not. One can only speculate why that was, my guess is that in this universe the Federation vessels had many problems with commanders who took matters into their own hands.
The sad End to Worf's Career. He had a Mental Breakdown and began to Hallucinate. Stress they say. Too bad, He was a Fine Officer.
Perhaps Worf should have transferred to a cargo ship. There’s a lot less pressure there.

Picard can barely operate the elevator let alone "raise the shields."

Those damned Kardashians can't escape them even in space.
I am still annoyed by some details of the script regarding this last battle, but the episode is excellent.
I think the best part is how the crew immediately try to find evidence of Worfs claims instead of blaming or mocking him.
Good thing it wasn't the Midas array or Voyager would never have gotten home.
This feels like my life in a nutshell.
Oh yes. Nothing seems to be right. Very annoying. My sympathy.
or my love life.
Shield engage automatically in a red alert.
Might not be the case in that Universe xD
In "The Wounded" the Enterprise take several unshielded hits from a Galor then easily overpowered it with Phaser fire.
Yes but Like the Title says, that is a different Universe and certain things seem to be different
There are multiple types of Galor so that's less of an issue. The main cannon of a Galor one shotted a BOP and a Jem Hadar fighter in DS9.
I'm more concerned about "Direct hit to thier main reactor" and the Galor returning fire as if getting thier main reactor hit with photon torpedoes was no big deal.
@@LordMJ The toughest Galor is not even a match for an Excelsior. The Cardassians were a generation, maybe two behind the Federation in starship design. The Cardassians had nothing to threaten another navy unless they operated in a trio and managed an ambush. Even when a Galaxy is hit with Cardassian weapons fire it can shunt all of the energy harmlessly away as seen in the episode of the Preservers, when the D takes 5 hits to the nacelles with the shields down.
@@cadengrace5466 The latest Galors in the a TNG era are far more heavily built and armed than an Excelsior. Even with the undoubted upgrades that the Excelsior had by the TNG era the Galor is still decades more advanced than the Excelsior even relying solely on onscreen evidence.
@@LordMJ We shall have to disagree with the on-screen evidence. A standard refit - not Lakota refit - of the Excelsior class is a contemporary of the Klingon Vorcha class and both are half a step ahead of the latest Galor in service, which is the Keldon, derived by the Obsidian Order.
It is because of this the Federation commissioned a new class to replace the 100 year old Excelsior frame with the new Sovereign class - a multi-role combat cruiser designed to serve as a flagship in tactical situations. That ship outclasses all other ships produced by the Romulans, Klingons or Cardassians and is only bested in the Federation by the much larger Galaxy class.
Ok Riker... we get it: tantruming about it won’t bring the shields back 😆
whoa! I do not remember this episode!
Guess I'll have to watch the series from start to finish.
hopefully you did, watch ds9 too while you at it, I watch all the series once every few years, and I never regret it. Best scifi ever filmed along with Battlestar galactiica
Worf got so much screen time in season 7. But dammit he earned it
Worf is the MAN.
In none of the various realities did they consider giving the tactical position a chair.
You simply reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.
Exactly.... fortunately I think Michael Dorn is pretty far down the list of candidates to play the next Doctor 👩⚕️ in Doctor Who.
Isn't that the same array in the episode where Barclay was turned into a computer and he took the ship to the center of the galaxy?
Correct
@@ReelMeurik Incorrect. That episode with Barclay was "The Nth degree", while this episode was "Parallels". They do seem to have a similar plot as a backdrop with an array malfunctioning for an initially unknown reason, but where one episode had Cardassians temper with it, the other had an alien probe overload the arrays computers and nearly do the same to the Enterprise Computer, just because it attempted to do to those what it succeeded to do to Barclays brain.
It's the same model they used for the armagossa array in generation's isn't it?
@@builder396 I suggest you re-read my question. It had nothing to do with the plots.
@@mdteletom1288 Oh sorry, the model is indeed the same.
Does a security chief do metallurgical scans?
Seems so....
That universe maybe he is science?
@@specialnewb9821 Lt Judge Dredd "I am durr science!"
Looks like they used a darker red when the switches to that last universe
This whole scene makes no sense at all. A Galor class warship is greatly inferior to a Galaxy class Starship and the Enterprise should normally easily blow that ship to bits. Remember Sacrifice of Angels in DS9, how the Federation armada engages the Dominion and Cardassian forces, how those first Galaxies punched aside the same type of Galor class vessels, with phasers only, and the USS Defiant when captained by the other Riker, also in DS9, how that tiny vessel also destroys several Galor warships. And that same Defiant was on par with an Excelsior class in "Paradise Lost", also DS9. And we all know that a Galaxy is superior to an Excelsior. All and all it makes no real sense, this scene.
THe Galaxy Class in the Dominion war were most likely upgraded. There is speculation that Starfleet upgraded all ships after wolf 359. Galaxy classes were further upgraded, SIF, weapons and shields, after the loss of the Enterprise D to an out of date BOP and the Odyssey to Dominion forces.
This is like the Title says a different Universe.... Maybe cardassian warships are stronger there?
Worf was jumping realities. In the reality he had jumped to during the red alert it's highly probable that the Cardassian's are stronger and more of a threat. That's why at the beginning clip Picard, Riker and Data had no clue to Worf's claims of the tampering on the array. That too was a different reality from the one previous that had reviewed logs showing the array being tampered with.
Don't forget, the shields weren't up... Even though a Galaxy- Class is far superior, it's not worth much if the shields aren't raised.
Also, ablative hull armor, weren't a thing yet. ;)
I assume Picard ordered a retreat due to their shields being inoperative and every hit they took caused significant damage and *killed* people. IIRC Geordi later dies of his injuries. It just wasnt worth it to sacrifice lives for a malfunctioning telescope.
Im sure if they had stayed they may have kicked the Galors ass, but to what end? By the time that ship would blow up, the Enterprise might be crippled, too, and could very well be a sitting duck even by the time additional Cardassian ships arrive.
I have a theory. In "The Wounded," Picard mentioned he had been involved in a peace overture during one of the Cardassian wars when he was on the "Stargazer." He lowered the ship's shields as a "gesture of goodwill" (inexplicable but okay). The Cardassians were not impressed and disabled the "Stargazer's" impulse engines and most of their weapons before they could regroup and run. Perhaps he did something similar in this episode and the Cardassians were similarly, unimpressed? It makes sense to me because ordinarily shields should be automatically raised during a red alert.
Ah ok very interesting Idea.
@@JAGtheTrekkieGEMINI1701plot hole really. Red alert means shields up, power weapons. Crew to stations.

This episode and many like this one intrigued me, and for years I tried wrapping my head around it. As of a few years ago, I think I understand this paradox: if anyone feels like following this rabbit hole, look up the "Banach-Tarski" paradox. Frikken mind-blowing where it leads...
I think Data's synopsis is fairly adequate. It alludes to the collapse of the wave function in quantum mechanics insofar as it manifests in a particular manner against any number of alternatives. The explorative plot of the episode being premised on the hypothetical solution to this mystery being that all quantum contingencies that can happen, actually _do_ happen.
I opened Netflix to re-watch this episode and poof it was already the episode I was gonna watch next
A Galaxy class out matched my a shabby ass Galor... I-
No shields can Change anything
No body at fire control can change EVERYTHING!
Imagine how shocked the Cardassians on that Galor must have been that they won the fight.
I said it in another comment, but the retreat probably wasnt because the battle couldnt have been won, but because it wouldve been enough of a dragged out affair to kill a lot of people as well as likely cripple the ship, given that without shields every hit hurts. Sure, they might beat the Galor with raw firepower, but would they still have warp power by then?

If this were from the writers of Fringe, many of the parrallel Enterprises would have appeared in exactly the same place as others, and they would have fused, causing all sorts of destruction. Also, I wonder why all the enterprises looked so similar, ship, uniforms, etc., they could have gotten real creative, showing some enterprises being part of the Klingon Empire, others part of the Romulans, other part of some kind of Vulcan empire, others part of some kind of other Empire that we not yet even seen, etc., etc., etc. And where is the Terran Empire enterprise in this episode. They never developed this idea, I believe, in Star Trek NG. It could have been something, with such a large cast, and so many year of episodes, with so many alien cultures.
I'd say budgetary constraints were the problem. In this day and age (in Star Trek: SNW) it wouldn't be so difficult to fill our TV screens with have a bunch of wacky parallel universe Enterprises.
THE BORG ARE EVERYWHERE!!!! THERE ARE 5 CUBES!!!
This was undoubtedly a Galor Class Type III Cruiser. While not a 1-on-1 match with a Galaxy, they were twice as powerful as the Type II Galor (Destroyer role) that attacked the Enterprise in "The Wounded." Type IIIs were new variants of the venerable Galor and began production in the mid-2360s. The featured upgraded weapons and very sturdy shields. Whereas a Galor Type II was a match for an Excelsior Class, the Type III could bully the Excelsiors and more or less go toe-to-toe with an Ambassador Class. Two of these Type IIIs were a threat to the Galaxy Class according to Riker. During the Dominion War, the Galor Type IIs and IIIs were refit with a lot of new stuff like warp cores and better emitters. They were fitted with heavy Spiral Wave Disruptor Cannons and better secondary beam weapons. A Galor Type II Heavy Destroyer could cripple an Excelsior with one shot, while the refit Galor Type III could one-shot kill attack ships (BoPs, Bugs), frigates (Breen Frigates) and even cruisers like the Steamrunner. Many people overlook the Galor, but students of war appreciate common frames that are easily adaptable and also have a commonality of parts for easy repair and production. The Galor was the Sherman Tank, a good basis for continual upgrades. Or like the B-52. Don't sleep on the cruiser variants.

It looks like this reuses scenes from the nth degree.
Oh, boy, did Star Trek ever love to re-use setpieces and establishing shots; especially in the first two series. In TNG, they had the same cliffside outpost on, like, nine different planets.
Blame it on time constraints and a limited budget. The producers had to continuously find ways to stretch out their budget. Matte paintings are probably very expensive and time consuming to create. It's the same reason they reused their small selection of models for various alien encounters. Not to mention the Bird of Prey model from Star Trek III that was originally designed as a small scout-class ship, but then TNG, defying all logic, scaled it up to match the size of the Enterprise D without changing it in any other way.
