That child wasn’t in the wrong place, wrong time. He was exactly where he was supposed to be, doing exactly what his father asked him to do. He was entirely blameless. Using that phrase of “wrong place wrong time” makes it sound like he did something wrong. He did not. At all.

      Handcuffs!!! Seriously!!!?..
Everything about this 12-year-old boy (wearing "SHORT PANTS") is disarming,
except maybe the color of his skin.
I mean come on, what else could it be? The 12-year-old boy fitting a description (that old story) is a non-starter simply because the boy would obviously have told the police what he was doing and that he lived right there (and pointed) across the road (that's if they gave him a chance to) and the police could have walked him back to his house to make certain and no harm would have been done. But clearly, they took the heavyhanded approach, an accusatory approach, and subsequently escalated the situation. Morons!!!
I hope the family do take out a lawsuit against the police ( they need to face some accountability) because anyhow you care to look at it, the police don't have a leg to stand on. There was absolutely no justification for handling the situation so badly.

When I was 9 years old in 1987, two white, female cops stopped me and my brother after we left a 7-11. My brother was 13. We bought chips and two cans of soda. The officers asked were our items stolen, handcuffed us and made us sit on the curb while they “figured out” what was going on. They took our names and asked our address and said we looked like we were “up to no good”, because of course we did….We were two Black boys, who to them probably looked like hardened gangbangers in their early 20’s. Because that’s how they see us. We can’t even be children. That was my first interaction with the police. They were mean and nasty for no reason. I couldn’t understand why they were so angry towards us. A far cry from the “friendly police officer” they have come to your school to talk about the dangers of drugs and whatnot. I’m 45 and I still remember those wicked bigoted cops, who harassed me and brother as kids walking home.

We learned real quick after that incident.

That's why those pigs got sued, as an individual with autism, even with white skin instead of black, there's more than just racial profiling, there's also psychological profiling, that's also illegal too, and even I also had people who are not police officers psychologically profile me just because of the way I am in ways related to autism, and it's not fair, and so people with autism, even with white skin, are also just as likely as random black people to come in wrongful contact with criminal cops, and it's not fair, that's why I don't go out very often.

The only way to change the police department's behavior is to ensure that there are consequences (financial among them) for it. If there are no consequences, then it didn't happen in their minds. Make them pay, and they'll think twice before handcuffing another 12-year-old boy.

This is enraging, unbelievable! My son also makes straight A's, wants to be an engineer, and just turned 13 that hit too close to home. This is insane, how can you look at him and see an adult? HOW? Mistaken identity? He's a CHILD and looks like a CHILD. The police need to be held accountable, I can't imagine how terrified he had to have been. My god he's practically a baby! What is WRONG with them??

White police see all black children as adults. In fact, their description of all black people is "big black"! They are terrified of us. It seems to me that they are terrified of a black baby. When they see a black child, they don't see a child, they see a big black man with a gun. So, they are likely to kill that, "man"! They see all black children as criminals, the same as they see all black people. It doesn't matter if it is the president of the United States, or the first lady. They see "a black"! These god damn feebleminded, uncivilized, ignorant racist police are some white nationalist. I feel sorry for those black people who continue to defend them. I tell you, the time will come when all black people will be touched by their terror in some shape or form. It amuses me when I hear American people talking about the troops going to other people's countries to fight for freedom from the "evil dictator"! 🙄When we live in a country that our government persecutes us for our skin color . Fidel Castro understood that very well, that is why he would always point out America's inconsistencies and hypocrisy .

As a black person who lives in Washington d.c....unfortunately I can confirm the one's committing the majority of the violent crime in these major cities such as armed carjacking and robbery at this time are the kids as young as 13!
It's lowlifes who put these kids up to it because at worst they'll only be in jail long enough to miss prom and graduation...

@@ivanvanogre-nd1swhow tf are you a "grown boy". How you use an oxymoron to describe someone who isn't even a PRE TEEN YET???? How do you look at a 12yo boy and label him grown? You mad weird and stupid asf for condoning this stupid shit.
A 12 year old ( a baby) tha was illegaly detain by mistaken identity deserves to be coddled and more. Yall want black people to suck it up and turn the other cheek when the officers are CLEARLY in the wrong.

I’m white and had this exact same thing happen to me. Was with a friend and we were walking to a convenience store down the street. Cops detained us saying that we matched the description of 2 white kids wearing black shorts and just broke into a house nearby. We were cooperative and they let us go. Just like this kid.

Will tell you what my police chief stepfather told us as kids: Never take the word of a cop for any reason because they will lie, especially if they have to make a case. This was no "wrong place, wrong time" incident. And it was a good thing neighbors were filming as well.

This is really sad and breaks my heart to see a mild-mannered, soft well-spoken young kid like this go through something like this that will now traumatize him for the rest of his life. Smh All because he's in brown skin, just a shame I swear.

cops are looking for a black dude so its only logic they detain a black person. if anything blame the black criminal for stereotyping his community.

He should be taught why/how not to be traumatized by this forever. He should be taught nothing is wrong with his brown skin but with the cops. BP immediately start blaming self and their skin color when whites act out. I don't want to see this with any black child no matter their demeanor
