Quite fascinating for somebody who (like me) only knows ms van Broekhuizen as a charming television personality to find out that she is also a very talented opera singer - I absolutely adore the last 15 minutes of this opera (the part with the three high Cs) and Ms van Broekhuizen is managing very well indeed.
The final pages of the score are so difficult to sing, and yet Ms. van Broekhuizen sang and acted so convincingly without strain and with beautiful tone. Brava!
Oh...I was forgetting to tell you this: I´m a singer and a voice tecnique teacher, have traveled some, and had the pleasure of watching and listening already some wonderful performances. And I can say it is difficult to find a performance where so many details have been observed. It was not only "a gala" voice: it was expression.

Ik kwam hier dankzij je boek. Prachtig!
It was everything!! My favorite Sour Angelica!! I really believed I was inmerse in a convent: the beheavour of every sister and her expressions, la zia principessa, la badessa, the environtment... I did not know about Francis before: she is wonderful! The manage of her voice, eyes, the sweetness of her phrases... musicality. It´s a very difficult role, but she did it in a touching manner. Congratulations from México to everyone of you. The conductor feels the opera and breaths with the singers. El director de escena es magnífico, digan lo que digan!!

Alleen het orkest is veel te klein en klinkt te individueel.
Daardoor niet goed in balans. Meer strijkers. Ook het koor mag veel groter.

オランダのオペラ座の公演ですね。
オランダはプロテスタントが多い国ですが、かつてのオランダのカトリックの修道院はこんな雰囲気だったのでしょうか？
イタリアやオーストリアなどとは少し違う、オランダの民族衣装の帽子のような修道女のベールが印象的でした。
ウィーン国立歌劇場やミラノスカラ座、メトロポリタンオペラなどの有名オペラ劇場とは異なり、派手さはなくとも、修道院の一日をそのまま切り取ったような描き方に好感が持てます。

Actually there are tenors and basses in the chorus during the opera's finale.
Conmovedor. muy bien dirigida, la soprano un tanto restringida en los agudos pero convincente, la mezzo le falta algo de espesor en la voz, la puesta en escena un tanto limitada, pero aun asi globalmente muy logrado, esta opera es una joyita unica.

Enjoyed the singing.... as for the acting? Young opera singers, avoid the dying lurch towards the furniture to show how sick you are. When people die they don't fling themselves onto pillars and chairs! Totally amateurish...

+cis1975 Let me start by saying, thank you for your gracious response! Anyone who can sing and act Angelica is no ordinary singer. You have all the voice and power for this role. I do want to be honest; I wish the director had given you better direction and had shown you other choices to indicate your physical pain. Stage dying is tricky and needs a strong hand to make it believable. I wish you the absolute best in your career - singing the Suor must have been an incredible experience. I hope your next director is up to the task as well. Just being honest there!

Have you ever seen some one who dies poisoned? I'm sure you have not... Not me either, but have read about it: it is worse than anything it can be shown in a theater...
it's called acting- I'm sure you can see a lifelike portrayal of a poisoning in some horror film but not in a puccini opera, and as for amateurish? totally disagree!!
