That was Billy Preston on the electric piano. He has the honor of being one of the few individuals who actually recorded with the Beatles. Obviously everyone is going to have a favorite Beatle song. I think one of their greatest masterpieces is "She's leaving home" , "A Day In the Life" is also one of my favorite classics.
Billy Preston plays electric piano on this tune. Lennon dubbed him "The 5th Beatle" as Billy played with them on the Get Back sessions. Billy passed in 2006 of kidney failure. I love the Beatles, they covered many genres IMO and are, unquestionably, the greatest rock-n-roll band planet earth has and will ever see. All members were icons in thier own right.
Great live performance. Harmonies, vocals, instruments. This is a Lennon song, about his new life with Yoko. "Its a love that lasts forever. Its a love that has no past". How great are those simple words. We all want a love like that.
The Beatles were unique. They are their own genre. They transcended "pop music," creating something which will live for centuries, like what we now call classical music. Lennon and McCartney were/are 2 of the greatest composers of the 20th century. They started out playing 1950s-style rock & roll, but constantly grew under the tutelage of their brilliant producer, George Martin, who was sometimes called the "fifth Beatle." My first-and-forever favorite group.
Billy Preston on electric piano..Only catch a glimpse, or two of Billy here..Phenomenal keyboard man..They once considered making him the 5th Beatle..I think Lennon wanted it, but Paul nixed that deal, if I'm not mistaking...This was their very last time performing together..Took the whole neighborhood by surprise..Cops had to break it up.
There are several different versions of this video...one of them has the camera linger for a lot longer on Billy Preston....he can clearly be seen on that version. I think he would have added a lot to the bsnd if he had actually joined. I know John snd Paul could both play the piano....but having a professional keyboardist would have added to the band.
No, no one nixed Billy Preston being in the band that I'm aware of. The Beatles broke up right after this and that is why the Beatles were a quartet throughout their entire history.
Asia and BJ im 71 and grew up listening to the beatles and it was brilliant and i love listening to your generations views on them . they were more than a band they were a way of living
There is no such thing as a bad Beatles song. They simply had too much talent. They are the single most influential band in music history not only in the way music is composed but even how it is recorded. The Beatle's are still the greatest band ever and Elvis is still the King. "Nuff said.
@@ffjsb Yes there are "better" musicians and "better" vocalists (although Paul, John and George were great musicians and vocalists AND songwriters) but as a group dynamic they were unparalleled before or since.
Love the song, John's voice, all good! Love the early Beatles songs, so upbeat. So fortunate to have grown up in the 60s!! Hard to believe John will be gone 41 years this coming December 8th. RIP!!
Cant wait for the new Beatles documentary by Peter Jackson coming out soon, with tons of never been seen footage of this time period. This was the Beatles last live performance, on the roof of their record company, Apple Records in London.
This was Beatles last live performance before calling it quits as a band. Billy Preston was the keyboard player (RIP Billy). They drew a large crowd on the streets below as well as the offices across from them.
I saw a comment here that this performance was in 1970, actually this little unannounced concert on the rooftop of their Apple label offices was January 30, 1969. Must have been a little chilly up there in January. Listen to the studio version of this, it's great. Another really good live video that I've seen a number of reactions too is the performance of the song Help from Blackpool Night Out from 1965. This is in great color and really good audio for that time of a really legendary song. Lennon kills the vocals along with great harmonies by Paul and George, you'll love it, that I promise. So happy too see you two do the actual Beatles. Their recording career between 1963-70 is unparalleled. There have been some great bands over the years like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Queen amongst others, but nothing like these four boys. You know these bands as soon as you hear them, the sound never really changes. The Beatles sound was always evolving constantly changing. Listen to them in 64 and then 67, you wouldn't know it was the same band. These guys were truly one offs, there will never be another Beatles. The Beatles and Bob Dylan, the two all time, all time GOATS and it ain't even close ! Hope too see more Beatles in the future, they will never Let You Down, get it ? ✌️☮️💕
Billy Preston is playing the Fender Rhodes electric piano on this song and it has an iconic sound that is very recognizable. What a great video of such a force in Rock and Roll. This was shot on top of the Apple Records Studio roof and it was very impromptu. People gathered in the street below very surprised to hear them. The cops eventually had them pull the plug since they did not have permits for this event.
Part of the brilliance of the Beatles is that they often begin their songs with the chorus, which makes the song very catchy. By the time they finish the first verse and hit the chorus, you've already heard it once and you are ready to sing along. "Get Back, "Eleanor Rigby", "We Can Work it Out", "I Feel Fine", "A Day in the Life". The list is endless
You guys should definitely listen to John Lennon’s solo work.. instant karma, working class hero, imagine, watching the wheels.. just a few of his work! John sings about topics we are still dealing with today
You should definitely go down this rabbit hole. As others have said, most likely the most influential music group in history. They hold music industry records that will likely never be broken. The amazing song writing , the growth musically in such a short span of time, the melodies, the pioneering recording innovations and huge mega cultural icons on top of that. The spokesmen for an entire generation.
Thank You guys for reacting to this! Love the Beatles. Thanks for mentioning Johns voice. I LOVE the way he can sound raspy AND hit the high notes, I think his voice is amazing.
This is my favourite song by the Beatles. Unconditional love expressed in the sheer power of John's vocals. I Liked your Hendrix reactions, too. The man who brought Heavy Rock to the world. Greetings from Germany!
This was their farewell impromptu roof top concert, on top of their recording studio in London England 1970. It was not planned. Last time the Beatles ever played together. People walking on the streets below, and in other Buildings, were looking up, and all around to see where this Beatles music was coming from. It was a very cool way to end the Band we all know as "The Beatles."
The bass lines in this are a wild collection of artistic choices. They are so unexpected and unique. For non-musicians these songs just sound like really nice sounds tumbling favourably together. But I can't imagine how awesome they must be for people who know more than me. Because even with the composition and playing knowledge I have, listening to The Beatles is like a Master Class in performing, composition, arrangement and producing. Every phrase has you thinking, "Who would even think of doing that, like that?"
What was incredible about John Lennon was his ability to nail a song perfectly in very few takes. His voice was unique and his songwriting fabulous. His son Julian sounds very similar and Liam Gallagher in the 90s also had that unique sound that makes these bands extra special .
So glad you two finally heard some REAL Beatles, cause I dig you guys, and you're really missing a lot if you don't experience the magic of the biggest selling musical act of all time...The Beatles! So many massive hits, but I would recommend "Come Together", "Revolution", "Get Back", "Something", "Here comes the sun", "Let it Be", "Across the Universe", "The long and winding road", and "Hey Jude". That's a good start! .....And please...when it comes to the Beatles, No more cover bands..... Peace
One of my fave Beatles songs. "I'm in love for the first time, don;t you know it;s going to last. It's a love that last live forever. It's a love that has no post." Jives with "Love does not keep a record of wrongs." -- 1 Corinthians 13
This was from their last live performance. It was on the roof of the Apple building where they were recording. They had got tired of the big stadium gigs, where nobody could hear what they were playing or singing.
Geeeezzzz!!!! This song!! It is the stamp to prove what their live performances would've been like going forward. Groovy and tight with masses of attitude.
On the rooftop at Abbey road studios I believe this was their farewell performance nobody knew they were going to do it but they drew a crowd and I love John Lennon's voice John and George are the most talented Beatles in my opinion
The electric piano is being played by Billy Preston he is on the left side by the door. The only black musician to play with most artistic and creative, fantastic rock band of all times!! 🐞🐞🐞🐞+🍎🍏🍎🍏= Beatles
This performance was their last live one. On the roof of the studio while freezing cold and windy. Shows just how good they were. The electric piano was the one and only Billy Preston!
Yes!! My cousins and my brother have been singing this song forever! At every family gathering playing this is a must. None of us can claim to be great singers but it says something when we hear this song we don’t recognize it asap because we are missing my fams interpretation of this song.
Last time The Beatles would play together live, impromptu concert on the rooftop of Abbey Road studio, it's cool to watch the people around the area reacting to what is going on, the significance of the moment was fleeting at the time. Even the police are laying back and just watching, of course they eventually had to shut it down without realizing the historic importance of what they were witnessing and actually became a part of. Magnificent performance, albeit short, and John's famous last words after the performance in regards the The Beatles who would soon disband and never play together again: "On behalf of myself and the band I hope we passed the audition".
Helter Skelter is another Beatles tune from this time period. Some say it’s one of the first “ Heavy Metal” songs. One of my favorites is “Why Don’t We Do It in the Road” which has a great distortion guitar riff.
You guys keep coming back to the electric piano, both when BJ talks about "that synth or whatever" and when Asia at 5:45 talks about the riffs in the outro. That's BILLY PRESTON on the electric piano. If you don't know him, look him up, he had a long subsequent career within funk and gospel and was an absolutely amazing keyboardist, as you can hear. Billy's contributions to the songs on Let It Be are always spectacular, I love him.

I've seen the documentary filmed about 50 years ago, they had just finished writing these songs just the day before in only 3 weeks, part three is the rooftop concert. The electric piano was played by Billy Preston.
In Jackson's "Get Back " documentary, it's fascinating to see how Billy Preston was involved with the Beatles. His licks on the Fender Rhodes added a layer to their songs during the sessions. He met them in Hamburg in 1962 while backing up Little Richard. He was 16! It was while he was backing Ray Charles in London that he hooked up with them again in 1969.
Hey guys , greetings from concord , nc . just thought i would let you know i enjoy the way about the reactions you both go after the true meaning of any song as a couple ! Thank you ! 😍😍
I always really liked their song Norweigen Wood - also Let it be, Something, Blackbird, While my guitar gently weeps, eleanor rigby are a few good ones. I've watched several reaction videos to first time listeners to "let it be" and it seems to be a tear jerker. I've been knowing that song since I was a little girl so it doesn't have the same impact on me but its a beautiful song
The rooftop sessions was their last live performance although it was shutdown since with the crowds below they were screwing up traffic. They were so young and seemed to be having a great time.
You two will LOVE all the feels in the movie, Get Back. It's 9 hours and worth every minute to watch them write and record two albums and shoot a documentary. All those songs were recorded live, no overdubs. This was their last "concert."
NOT their wives coats, it was their own coats, which you will see in the GET BACK documentary....they are wearing them often when arriving ,etc. First of all, Yoko is a tiny woman and NO way would her coat fit on John, Men were wearing coats like that then. I don't know WHERE this myth started that John, George and Ringo are wearing their wives coats!
My first Beatles album,,was "the Beatles again" which was kind of a greatest hits album. This song was on it,,as well as paperback writer, and the Ballad of John and yoko.
Let it Be was their last release, but Abbey Road was actually the album they recorded last. So I'll always consider Abbey Road as their last album. And the way it ends is so fitting for it to be their last.
recommendations for Beatles songs is impossible, there's hundreds of great ones. Happiness is a Warm Gun, Tomorrow Never Knows, Got to Get You Into My Life, A Day in the Life, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, ... There's a rooftop live version of Get Back, if you like them playing live, really cool.
This was the last live performance they ever did. The whole "rooftop concert" (that this song came from) is something like 30-40 minutes long. Very historic performance, and you get to see them at the top of their game. No crowd noise to drown them out, either. Highly recommended. Another song I highly recommend is "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". The later Beatles are much more interesting than the earliest stuff, in my flawed opinion. There was a week, back in the day, where The Beatles had 14 of the top 100 songs being played on the radio - including ALL of the top 5 songs. When once given the opportunity to broadcast one song live, to a global audience of some 265 million people, The Beatles chose their song, "All You Need Is Love". As Ringo said in an interview, they were all about peace and love.
I am glad that generations and people have moved on and occasionally look back and listen to the Beatles They changed all music forever and their general message was positivity and love.
Just say the Beatles as far as everything they did for multiple decades… The best group of all time who also wrote many of their own songs, excellent songwriter they just evolved as the decades went by until they decided to split up. They all had great solo acts as well, that just goes to show you how well they were as a group they went out on their own and did as well, I grew up during this time it was the best of time with music
They wrote all of their own songs!! lol John & Paul were the best writing team of all time, with some input from George. Magical group imo, unlike any other.
The electric piano was being played by Billy Preston he was kind of a quiet fifth member of the beetle in this era they were having a rough patch and he was kind of the gel that gave them their groove back!
that was there very last perforance together ..1969 .. called " ROOFTOP "..that man me laugh also ... done me like she done ,,, John ,,looking over at Paul big smiles ... Billy Preston over there on keyboards
One of the Beatles' most soulful songs. Probably not many other songs of theirs hit in the same way, but maybe try these... Oh! Darling I've Got a Feeling I Want You (She's So Heavy) Happiness Is a Warm Gun
They hadn't played live in a few years although they were busy making albums so this was kind of a unique moment. Even though the cops pulled the plug they got several songs in and a huge crowd gathered Below on the street and on other rooftops.
The Beatles are still ahead of their time. True pioneers is music styling

One of their best! The Beatles are universal because they evolved and experimented so much. so many later rock genres can be traced back to them.
Hey guys , greetings from concord , nc . just thought i would let you know i enjoy the way about the reactions you both go after the true meaning of any song as a couple ! Thank you ! 😍😍
That's was Billy Preston on keyboard.....beautiful.....may he rest in peace.
Actually this is one of my favorite songs ever I'm listening to music well over 60 yrs. Love Johns voice also, my favorite!!!!
Dope reaction great song first time i've heard the entire song and i enjoyed it
One of my favorites from them. I love how they did this on the roof top.
The rooftop sessions was their last live performance although it was shutdown since with the crowds below they were screwing up traffic. They were so young and seemed to be having a great time.
This is so ahead of it's time. 1970. Still brilliant and I love this vid, all the boys together at the end of their band's era
You two will LOVE all the feels in the movie, Get Back. It's 9 hours and worth every minute to watch them write and record two albums and shoot a documentary. All those songs were recorded live, no overdubs. This was their last "concert."
One of THE best! Great job kiddos!
Love that you hear the beauty of their sound
It was an impromptu concert. They were so cold they borrowed the coats from their wives. This will be included in the new documentary Get Back❤️❤️❤️
NOT their wives coats, it was their own coats, which you will see in the GET BACK documentary....they are wearing them often when arriving ,etc. First of all, Yoko is a tiny woman and NO way would her coat fit on John, Men were wearing coats like that then. I don't know WHERE this myth started that John, George and Ringo are wearing their wives coats!
My first record was the Beatles. I was 8 years old and played that record everyday after school. Good times✌️🤗
'She done him good'. She says to him, "Don't let Me Down". The Beatles twist everything. Enjoy your reactions
One of my all time faves !! Thanks for sharing. Blessings
Beatles are the greatest, more Beatles please 😎 thanks 🏹
My first Beatles album,,was "the Beatles again" which was kind of a greatest hits album.
This song was on it,,as well as paperback writer, and the Ballad of John and yoko.
A great (and can’t stress great) vocal performance by John Lennon and the plastic Ono band. “Jealous Guy”
Gimme some truth….holy cow! Dropping the vocals😮
Their last album Let it be is legit one of the best things I've ever listened to. I just love the Beatles so so much!!
Billy Preston also played on the concert for George Harrison on the song isn't it a pity
I am glad that generations and people have moved on and occasionally look back and listen to the Beatles
They changed all music forever and their general message was positivity and love.
They wrote all of their own songs!! lol
John & Paul were the best writing team of all time, with some input from George. Magical group imo, unlike any other.
The electric piano was being played by Billy Preston he was kind of a quiet fifth member of the beetle in this era they were having a rough patch and he was kind of the gel that gave them their groove back!
She said She said. Or Hello Good-Bye......maybe Dear Prudence. If y'all can
Excellent choices!
that was there very last perforance together ..1969 .. called " ROOFTOP "..that man me laugh also ... done me like she done ,,, John ,,looking over at Paul big smiles ... Billy Preston over there on keyboards
Legendary Concert on the Roof
My favourite reactors now. You guys appreciate great music
One of the Beatles' most soulful songs.
Probably not many other songs of theirs hit in the same way, but maybe try these...
Oh! Darling
I've Got a Feeling
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Happiness Is a Warm Gun
A Beatles live would be so fun! They have so many great songs and everyone likes different ones, the polls will be exciting lol
They hadn't played live in a few years although they were busy making albums so this was kind of a unique moment. Even though the cops pulled the plug they got several songs in and a huge crowd gathered Below on the street and on other rooftops.
They were on the roof of their studio in London I believe. Was the last time they performed before breaking up.
The piano is a Fender Rhodes 88. One of the first electric pianos. The great jazz pianist Joe Sample was famous as the biggest name to use one.
