    Darn, I got the first names mixed up. You are SO right.
    Seeing as I was one of those who commented on Lange and the Wannsee conference I stand corrected.

    A beautiful building, to have been the place such horrors were put into motion.

      I'm just shocked that the Wannsee Conference to discuss it's official plan of genocidal crimes of "The Final Solution To The Jewish Question" wasn't organized at the führer's private residence (The Berghof) or at the "Eagles Nest" at the Kehlsteinhaus in Berchtesgaden bc he's the one who officially authorized the death sentence

    Very interesting Alan, I’ll look forward to more details on the conference.

    Alan I just read on Wikipedia that Walter Stahlecker died in the Soviet Union (USSR) on March 23, 1942 just a couple of months before Heydrich was assassinated in Prague. He held the SS rank of Brigadeführer

      The village where Walter Stahlecker came from is quite close to where I live in Germany - I keep meaning to go and see if there are any relatives buried there.

    In addition to his experience, I believe Lange was invited due to his law degree...it would add luster to the group, as L was SS & SD...

      Eichmann was hanged some 20 odd years later.

    It’s worth explaining the Nazis felt they were the victims of a conspiracy and that was the reason for the mass killings. You have to claim victimhood as a pretext to extermination.

      I’m sorry but NOTHING AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING CAN EVER EVER justify what the the Germans did to so many innocent civilians , men , women and CHILDREN … shame on those who did this …

    • @NapoleonGelignite
      @NapoleonGelignite 21 день тому

      @@simonallchin7436 - of course not. The point is you have to claim victimhood to start a genocidal campaign. There’s always a ‘look they did X so we have to murder everyone’ structure to all genocides - that is more relevant today than ever.

    I had wondered what happened to the building where the Wannsee Conference took place. Only the Nazis could use such beautiful places in the world to commit the ugliest of atrocities. It's as if God is blessing the world on the one hand and Satan is cursing it on the other hand. What a world we live in. I suppose the building is now a historical museum?

    Albert Speer was also at the Wannsee Conference and then claimed he left before Himmler's speech. I am surprised that building still exists. Thanks Alan for todays post.

      I think you're getting a couple different conferences confused. Himmler and Speer did NOT attend the Wannsee Conference. You're thinking of a conference of gauleiters at Posen in October 1943, where Himmler gave a speech about the extermination of the Jews and singled out Speer for praise; Speer both denied he was in attendance at all AND then later that he WAS there but left the conference before Himmler mentioned him from the platform. In either case Speer was frequently questioned about this and his denial was apparently meant to prove (or bolster) his post-war claim of not knowing about particulars of "the final solution."
      There's a great article about this-- several, in fact-- in Gitta Sereny's THE HEALING WOUND.
