What's so refreshing about Mikel, is that he gives his honest opinion and will praise any player who deserves it, regardless of the club they play for. So many podcasts out there of ex players just always hyping and showering their ex teammates with praise regardless of whether they were the better player,etc. Keep up the good work!

Yea as a City fan, i didnt think I would like a player more than De Jong, then came Fernandinho, who became my favorite. Such an important player for us in the Pells and Pep eras. Rodri now looks even better than those 2, unreal player.

We have deep-lying playmakers like Rodri, Busquets, Jorginho, Pirlo, Carrick, and Kimmich. Then there are the destroyers and ball-winning CDMs such as Makelele, Kanté, Roy Keane, and Vieira. It all depends on the manager's style of play. Saying Rodri is among the best ever is a massive disrespect to players from previous eras. Jose Mourinho, for instance, wouldn't opt for an orchestrator or deep-lying playmaker like Rodri, Jorginho, Busquets, or Pirlo. He prefers a destroyer or ball-winning CDM. Similarly, Pep Guardiola wouldn't choose a destroyer like Makelele or Kante because his possession-based football emphasizes keeping the ball and requires creative CDMs who can create plays. When choosing the best CDM ever, you have to consider these nuances rather than generalizing. Your comment comes off as massively disrespectful without this perspective.

I understand what Mikel is saying but what about Andrea Pirlo? Pirlo was doing what Rodri is doing now & more. I have never seen a more composed player on the ball than Pirlo. Dude was playing like he controlled time! 😂

He always had an Italian destroyer beside him. Marchisio and Gattuso so he didnt have much work. Rodri is a oppressive and meticulous workhorse.
