quick disclaimer, the terms used here are just based on my simplification. this animation was made, because I had no idea how otf knives worked, so I made one in blender in order to study it.

    You sir, absolutely nailed this.
If I had to watch another 3 minute video of some muppet telling me how rubber bands work I was going to lose it.
You did in 18 seconds what needed to be done. Short sharp and to the point ;)

With the amount of views this has gotten im kinda embarrassed. I knew nothing about the names of the parts while making this, and i am not an animator. I literally did this because i was bored one night and wanted to build an otf knife but didnt have the tools money or knowledge necessary.

This helped me fix my OTF. It didn’t come off the track like usual; but it just fully stopped. The slide was free to move back and fourth and the blade came in and out with gravity. The spring snapped right at the bottom. I just re threaded the spring and it worked great.

Honestly this short ass video helps a bunch, haah, thank you! Been looking into how these things work, and it helps a bunch to see something I can apply text to, heh.

sorry i dont speak spanish, so you have to use google translate. but there are two small locks which are the red rectangles. they lock the blade in place when it's closed and when it's opened. when you push the switch up, it opens the bottom lock, and pulls on a spring that is also pulling the knife. When the lock no longer holds the blade in place, the spring goes up and shoots the blade up until it goes past the top lock. to close the blade, it's the same process, but with the top lock.
The animation is slow to help show each step, but in real life, the spring moves very fast. This force is what shoots the blade in and out.
