I truly appreciate your approach and economic and ecologically sound encouragement I also TOTALLY understand not being able to face autumn and winter as it is finally summer
Ah I'm so glad you understand! Just couldn't face the heavy fabrics haha and so glad you enjoy the philosophy behind the channel. Wishing you a great week and thanks for watching! xx
Hi Alyssa! I just wanted you to know that your creativity continues to pay dividends even 4 years after you made this video. Thank you so much for your inspiration! I found an old maxi dress in the back of my closet that I've held onto for about 20 years. I watched this video and went step by step through my closet and found over a dozen new ways to wear this old dress (that I only ever wore by itself with flats). I also noticed how well made this JJill dress is; the fabric, seams, and detailed stitching is so well done. Ironically, at the time I bought this dress, my mother frequently complained that clothing was so cheaply made compared to when she was younger (and my mother grew up quite poor so wasn't purchasing premium clothing as a young woman...Sears and JCPenney was luxury shopping for her). I'm so glad I hung onto this dress as I will be wearing it this summer and will not be buying a new maxi dress.
This was great--I loved it! I really appreciated how you showed us how you actually knotted and looped things like the dress and the belt to achieve different looks. That's just really helpful to me--so many times I see a styling video and don't necessarily know how they made something look just so. Thanks!
You can never really pick one AB masterpiece, But elevated really caught my style. The skill you have with an elastic is beyond human. : ) Super power really. Cinching made a whole new dress, with just a teeny little elastic. Never have seen that done, on this planet. Out of this world. Bravo!
I love the urban chic look! I would have never thought to fold and tuck a tshirt like that and then use a sash to make it look like a whole new dress. I'm going to be using this look a lot in the future! Also the elevated look is beautiful. 😍
Thank you! Just what I was looking for. A simple video showing me how to utilise items I already own. I know this vid is old now, but still on point. I loved that you skipped passed all of the listing all your items malarkey and got on with it. Definitely need to see how to style for other seasons too.
Urban chic was a favorite, as well as elevated, preppy vibes, layered (I would go with a flat, because that's more my style, instead of the sneakers) and cinched and chic. Thank you for sharing all of your inspiration!
Alyssa, I love your message and approach to fashion. So practical yet timeless. Just yesterday I was trying to figure out some more ways to wear my maxi - perfect timing!
I watched this when you originally posted it but just watched it again because I'm taking a winter trip to Florida. Thank you! These are such great ideas that I never thought of! I will definitely be trying out some of these looks.
CandyKeesh yay! Hi and welcome! So glad you liked those looks! And YES I've had that wide leather belt for YEARS and use it all the time:) thx for watching! xx
Love love love urban chic. I would have never thought to put a tee over my maxi, let alone then belt it. Brilliant. And I kept seeing the knotted look, but never could figure out how it was done. Love #8 elevated, too.
LOVE this video...to death! Summer is when my Frida Kahlo muse arrives on warm southwest breezes. It is time to bring out my FULL OUT FRIDA wear...which means...maxi dresses and skirts. My western Santa Fe style and Cali-girl Bo-ho also is on full display. Towards fall, my style turns more to the clean lines of Japanese styling and Twenties inspiration. All these looks are amazing. I am 5'2" and 1/2 inches tall....so I wear wedges & boots with heels with my maxi dresses. I also go for arm coverage as they are not what they were in my forties. I am not one to expose the gravy-like bits of my body...each to their own. YOU however are rocking every one of these looks. A lot to admire here. Keep up the incredible stylings!
Lisa! I love your descriptions first of all, are you a writer? And love how you have a different style aesthetic for each season! I've never thought of dressing that way before, love it! Thank you as always for sharing and showing the love! Hope you have a great week! xx
I like to read and write, but my career was in teaching. I am now retired. I was an art major with a minor in teaching, social science, and business. My graduate degree is in mathematics. I am very well read and a lover of poetry, Shakespeare, great literature, ancient philosophers, art, opera, and jazz. I did have a blog, but it was too much work (LOL). I still have an IG account. I enjoy the conversation and company of women who have similar interests. I enjoy engaging with others in the comment section. My entire account was so I could document my outfits. Then, I found I enjoyed the company as my closet friends lost their battles to ovarian and breast cancer. Friendships take a long time me me to grow! If you want to see me...my IG page is @fridainmycloset
@@lfkilcran I am so sorry to hear of these friends of yours. While I can not fully relate - I "lost" friends mostly due to moving - for me, too, friendships take a long time to grow, and sometimes are hard to come by. You do sound like a very interesting friend to have! Wonderful for those who are friends with you. :-)
Thank you for creating another great video! I always enjoy your cheerful and calm energy. Obi belts are the best. For people like me with a few more inches in the waist area, a slightly skinnier one is more flattering imo.
I like the dress with the blazer and belt best. I would have never thought to use white tops with a maxi that has no white in the pattern. I hit the subscribe button because I am looking for a wardrobe thats not capsule exactly, but something to get the most mileage out of my clothes, rather than 50 pieces that just take up space.
Dawn Pren hi Dawn, so glad you found the video interesting! you got it - I talk about capsules and minimalism but don’t believe in counting pieces or following hard and fast rules - just being more mindful and conscious about how we consume and shop for clothing so that we use less and end up with a smaller more curated closet. I hope you enjoy the channel - thanks so much for subscribing:)
Ah thank you so much for this one! Maxi dress/skirt is my absolute fave summer piece. So comfortable and so versatile. This video was so inspiring and you look amazing as always!
This has got to be one of my favorite videos!! Please please do one for fall and winter. You are amazing and such an inspiration to shop my own closet.
I've got to say the #4 knotted look is just the thing I needed! I'm short. I have a draped asymmetrical maxi dress that was just too long in the front. I did the knotted look & it didn't take anything away from the dress, in fact it enhanced to look. Thank you soooo much! I also have the same dress in a different color that I took to have hemmed for $40. when I just could have used a rubber band. Ugh!
haha ahh no worries! Getting clothes altered is a great strategy, but i'm so glad you found the rubber band trick useful for other pieces! :) Thanks so much for watching xx
The urban outfit and elevated looked really good! I don't have maxi dress or much any summer clothing because the summer is so short anyway in Scandinavia. I would like to see different ways how to style a denim skirt.
Hi ladies! Unfortunately it's a few years old and I was unable to find an updated version or anything exactly similar ... I also searched ebay with no luck. I'm so sorry! Will keep my eyes peeled and add in the description if I find anything!
Hi Alyssa, I love your ideas for tasteful, feminine/elegant looks with one knock-out maxi.....I mean one could also sleep in that maxi...and/or lounge. Thank you. 🌹♥️🌹
Thank you so much! This was so helpful!! I have 4 different maxi dresses : black, navy, maroon, and olive. I have enough different options to have a different look EVERY DAY! 🤯🤩
Thank you so much for posting this ❤️. Yes, winter is here, Please post winter maxi dress or maxi skirt ( like knit pencil style long skirt which is popular this year, but seems hard to make it chic and stylish). Thanks 😊
As ALWAYS! LOVE,LOVE, LOVE!!!! And Thank You Alyssa!!! I am wearing a black tank style maxi as I watched. Wore it 4 different ways this week! So I feel very affirmed and validated by your video! LOL!!! You always inspire!!!! You go girl!!! xo
Great Alyssa, as usual ! Loved the knotted idea, and the elevated :-)) And thank you for showing the way you style your belt more slowly, got it now !!! 😊
All are great but Urban Chic (3) and 8 are my faves. You nailed this. I've got several maxis I'm taking on vacation and can now get more mileage with them, so THANKS!
Thanks for that fabulous video! I was sewing a Maxi dress as your video starts to play on my computer next to me. I can't believe how many looks I can now create! I don't like all the looks that I have tried, but for sure, I will recreate 3 of those new looks! Thanks a lot! :) And now, I have no choice... I'm a new subscriber and need to watch all those amazing videos! 😊
Hello Alyssa, I've been watching every single episode. I just rewatched this one and wanted to know if you can give me other options on how I can wear my maxi's for the office. I love maxi's and want to wear them more at the office. Thanks Scarlett
Almost 8000 subscribers Alyssa! What did I tell you! Fun styling tips! Always a pleasure. I also knot on the outside to create more shape and to shorten the length in the front. Easier to walk. Sometimes I use a vintage sweater clip in the back to cinch the waist. Love your dress, especially the sides. Sexy! Love the color too. Thank you Alyssa! Have a great rest of the weekend!
Jeannette Mann thank you so much for your support Jeannette! I love that idea of using a vintage sweater clip to cinch the back! Thanks for sharing that tip and for watching :) always appreciate it :) I hope you have a great week as well! xx
Cool. I thought I got a lot of wear from my maxi but you took it to another level. Appreciate it. We’re right smack in the middle of summer so hot. Going to do some of the styles I haven’t done before. The knitted white tee with sneakers and the knotted long sleeves top 😎
Hi Meenu! So glad you liked this video and yes - the knotted would be great for lucky all gals like you because it breaks up the silhouette a bit. I always wish I was taller! haha thank you for watching! xx
Girl, you did that! What I love is I'm a plus size Diva and I could rock all 10 styles.

The Denim jacket over a white shirt, w/ straw bag and white shoes is effortlessly chic. Also, lived the denim shirt knotted at the waist. 😘
