I was born and raised in Atlanta and still live here because the amount of parks and nature spots is astounding. Such peaceful places to read, write, draw, walk, chill, whatever. Love the city in the forest.
just over a year ago i moved to a VERY small town for a job, essentially leaving behind the community and the place i had been for 7 years! and it has been really fruitful and wonderful and i have made a new community and yet here i am considering moving again and the question *I* keep playing with is like...if the communities i build aren't enough to keep me in a place, and the job isn't enough, what do i want? and i haven't figured it out yet but like...solidarity i get it
Your question of “when do people start getting on with the rest of their lives” is interesting and as someone in the late 20s early 30s range, I’ve seen that start to happen. Some people get married and move closer to family and even have kids, so socially things can reorient in this stage of life. That’s why moving to be closer to friends can be fraught if you don’t know for certain if they’ll stay. Anyways I relate to your situation of wanting to move and how dating plays into all!! I think we just all have to trust the process!
I actually visited Chattanooga in January and fell in love with it immediately! I decided I wanted to move there in the future, and I think if you have the opportunity and the desire to go somewhere, whether it be London or Atlanta, you owe it to yourself to just try. to quote Taylor Swift: “no matter what path you choose you’re going to miss something, and i don’t want to miss this”
I moved to London in 2021 and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! I hated it for the first 6 months, especially because with covid I couldn’t get on a flight home to visit my family and friends. But it got easier after that, and now I’ve been here almost 3 years and I am so happy. I think no matter where you go, give it a year and you’ll know if it feels right for you!
I live in atlanta and grant park and i LOVE it here!!! Specifically east atlanta, you hit all my fav spots and I don’t know you personally sally but I do think it would be a nice fit! In terms of walkability it’s similar to LA which sucks but the people here are so cool and the artist scene can be really rewarding :))))
couldn't relate more. i'm 27 and trying to move to berlin, germany from cape town, south africa. it's super exciting and it's definitely helped relieve that antsy feeling you're talking about, but i'm also so scared! i'm worried about not making friends in germany and i'm sad that i will be missing out on spending time with my current friends in this 'young and independent' time of our lives. i also agree with your mom; you can ALWAYS move back! personally; i would rather move to a new place, hate it, and move back, than regret not moving at all. hope you find some inner peace on this, only you know what's best for you
Currently in my second year living in LA the rhetoric around dating someone if you don’t see yourself being there long term is SO real. How do people decide what their forever home is even gonna be ????
i moved to california from the midwest for college & now i'm so ready to move back home or to the northeast & it's like why did i go so far away to college then but i've learned and experienced so much and maybe that's enough and i don't need to get more out of it than that and going somewhere for college doesn't mean i have to live there (but it's so hard to think that i won't see my closest friend regularly anymore) also chicago is amazing it has the greenery and the city life
I used to live in grant park and seeing you walk around my old spots made me so happy!! I truly think Atlanta is booming like never before, the arts and culture here are so innovative and also community-oriented in a way I feel like bigger cities lack. Also 10/10 food, weather (minus summer humidity), friendly people, and PARKS. Join us!!
rewatching your atl videos and idk if that shot at 1:49 was intentional, but loving the vibes of you down south! the atl community is a beautiful one and there's so many amazing ways to be involved in the larger world there
totally relate to your moving qualms, i turned 29 this year and always moved knowing someone or moved for friendships or relationships or whatever, and my last move I totally did solo and didn't really get the full enjoyment out of it and I don't think that was because a solo thing that was more so stuff going on with me at the time, but I want to make one last move solo dolo and somewhere I've always wanted to be just to say I did it before I turn 30 and have to.. idk tie the knot?? but yes encouraging you sally darr ily
ok yes i've had an ongoing crisis about moving for over a year - constant grass is always greener vs quarter life crisis mode. i almost have FOMO when other people move away? very healthy and cute
SDG!! literally started tearing up hearing your thoughts on moving and starting new lives in different cities! im currently a sophomore in college living in England. Im from Chicago and god knows why I decided to go to England for school. My first year was so rough from culture shock and this year has been better but there's still a piece of me thinking that I could just go home and transfer because am I even happy? so what you said is really helping me think through my life and I love u for that!! remember you don't need the answers to life right away
Feeling so seen and heard! I know for certain I'm moving somewhere new next year (not sure where yet) and this has been my thought process on the daily!! From past experience with big life decisions I've learned that I kind of know from the beginning deep down what I'm going to do in the end but it's fun to weigh every pro and con!!
Not sure if you ever ended up deciding but I can’t recommend Atlanta enough. It’s a great city that I’ve called home for 7 years and a second home my entire life when I came to visit. It’s a vibrant place that’s evolving and now is as good a time as any to get in to make it the place you want it to be. It’ll always be here if you decide to take a detour on the way. I’m always happy to give recommendations too on where to go and live in the city.
i resonate so much w the moving dilemmas and feeling the pressure of being young and being able to go anywhere. this was really nice to hear & all the other comments were really nice to read 🩵🩵
I’ve lived 20 mins from Atl all my life and lived in the perimeter for 5 years. Atl is good in the short term, but there is a pretty big issue with safety that I didn’t have to deal with even 3-4 years ago. Not to mention the traffic makes it not worth going anywhere from 2pm-8pm most days. People mention a lot of nature options - there are some but in a 1-2 years I think you can exhaust them all and get bored quickly. With that being said, I don’t really understand why people would want to live in ATL unless you’re starting a family. It has all the things a family would love (minus safety). If you like adventure, outdoorsy activities, scenic private landscapes, minimal bugs, cool air & minimal traffic… I’d look elsewhere
Sally Darr!! Loved this one girl 💞💞 I up and did a London move at 26 this year and I had the same thoughts before I left. I was terrified to leave my closest friends and family and go to the other side of the world but I also knew I just had a deep itch for change. I also was thinking similar of but where do I want to settle down? And about the future and how I most likely wanted to have my kids back home (also single but was really thinking about this!! ) But!! in the end I decided to try focus on the short term and as you said being young and unattached and excited for a change! If living in London is one year or two it’ll be what it is! What you left isn’t going anywhere and you can always go back if the move isn’t right! I’ve been here almost 6 months now and I’m so glad I made the harder decision of making a big change! But my advice is definitely move with a friend!! If you do move over here you’ll have a London bug here for ya if you ever need some hints on good walking paths or good coffee spots 🫡🇬🇧💜
@@SallyDarrGriffin Of course Miss Bug 💜 it took me months to pull the trigger on the decision but I honestly just started applying for my visa and kinda just tricked myself into going for it 🫣. I know how scary and confusing it felt for me, so it’s no small thing and it’s nice to talk to people who have done it- that helped me a lot ☺️ I know London will love you if you end up here 😊 I hope you enjoy it here on new years! If you want any pub recommendations let a girl know!
I moved to Providence, Rhode Island a year ago on a whim, without a job or knowing anyone there. It kinda sucked, but also it was good for me. Then I got a job in a tiny middle of nowehere town in Texas. Close to the last minute, I decided not to move to Texas, but instead moved to a city where I have family. I feel like I'm on the right path, but also not sure if, when, or where I'll move next. Being in your 20s is w.e.i.r.d.
you definitely move to London I lived there for a few months and I believe living in another country like that truly opens up your mind and life to so many things. Set up a certain time frame to live in London and at the end of that you can either extend stay or go back to LA, do this !
hey sally darr i moved from nashville to dc when i was 26 after being in the peace corps - it’s so scary leaving friends, but it’s so fun to find more of a friend in yourself too. we change as we get older, and it can be so rewarding to meet friends at different ages/stages at our life. hope this helps
I feel the antsy urge to move so deeply!! The past few months have been rough, and my Google search history since like September is just full of “how to move to London”-type queries.
I want to move to Atlanta (I currently live in Georgia) but I also struggle because as a Dancer, I struggle with wanting to/feeling like I should move to New York and/or LA
Atlanta the city in a forest! I lived there for 25 years and moved away but i do miss it sometimes. I couldn’t handle the traffic and transportation nightmare, but maybe moving from LA that’s not a concern for you lol.
it is so refreshing and comforting to hear someone else put words to my thoughts, because I want to move to Paris but feel hesitant to leave my friends group in austin but I also sort of want to move back to Portland and its like where do I go, who do I be? I also am now considering London because my cousin is there and it's like girl there are just too many options and I want to live them all!
I'm older than you by ten years. Go ahead and move! I did the same thing in my twenties! Moved to california, moved home, then st Louis Missouri. I ended up back home but I wouldn't change those times for anything. My best friend moved to Peru for a while! She loved. Its enriching. Go for it, lady.
I feel so antsy to get out of my college town. I stuck around after graduation and it's almost 4 years since graduating and I have been aching for somewhere new!
I understand your desire to move but TBH if I had a friend group like yours I would not leave it, I know I only see on the outside but it truly seems one of a kind
i totally relate to maybe possibly wanting to move but also being so unsure about it in the same breath lmao. i have lived in the same general area of maryland since 3rd grade (went to college nearby and lived w my fam for a year or so post grad), and i currently live about 30 minutes away from where i grew up with one of my best friends for the last 2 years. i have been toying with the idea of moving to philly for the last year but i keep pushing back my theoretical moving date bc i’m nervous about the uncertainty! i have a remote job so that isn’t an issue but i think being away from all of my close friends and family & having to build new relationships is a bit daunting. i want to challenge myself and do it but idk when i’ll be ready?? even though it’s only about 2.5 hours from where i live now it still makes me nervy :/ next fall/winter is what i am thinking at the moment but who knows lol
I love atlanta, the culture and history is incredible, the nature and parks are plentiful, it is the most beautiful place to grow and live. Grant park and Virginia highlands and east atlanta village and cabbage town and Inman park are THE best vibes
I moved to Philly in August bc the studio prices in Brooklyn were insane and I was ready to leave the shared apt I'd been in for 3 years. No regrets so far! Cheaper rent, amazing green spaces, I have some good friends here, good community, still on the east coast and can go to NYC/DC easily (I work remotely in film). I had the same mindset: you can always move back!! Have you thought about jumping around a bit before you decide? Like spending 2 months in London, 2 in ATL? I considered that but wanted to be settled, but I think it's a good option.
Sally darr i totally feel where you are coming from, I’m finishing up my MSc program of 2.5 years where i moved from Mass to Western Canada… and I’m like ok where to next I’m ready for something different
Sally darr…I am unfortunately having the same crisis as you lol. Do I leave LA? Where do I go? Who’s next of my friends to leave? I don’t wanna be the last one! Truly the same wavelength. Tough, tough.
1/2 of the experience of being in your 20’s is thinking “should I move here?” Every time you visit somewhere and don’t hate it
I was born and raised in Atlanta and still live here because the amount of parks and nature spots is astounding. Such peaceful places to read, write, draw, walk, chill, whatever. Love the city in the forest.

as someone who lives in Atlanta it is so weird / cool seeing queen Sally Darr at places I always go to like Ponce City Market 😅😅
