I can't get over just how relaxed and confident coach Payton sounds this year compared to last. He just sounds easy and less stressed. He was kinda left holding the bag on a historically bad Broncos deal with Russ/Hackett, like embarrassingly bad. He walked into it knowingly, but I doubt even he knew how bad it was until he actually saw for himself. It was cringeworthy bad and it's NOT what the Denver Broncos are all about.
I know a lot of people can't stand him because they think he handled Russ poorly, but Russ was infuriating. IDC what anyone says. Making the same rookie mistakes over and over, but pretending he's some All World QB/A list celeb. It would've drove Kyle Shanahan nuts too. We have to stop pretending like the NFL isn't tough and mean sometimes.
The vibe is completely different this year. Doesn't mean it'll for sure translate to wins right off the bat, but I think Sean Payton feels like he has his team now, or at least the start of it. If we can stay relatively healthy, and some younger guys from the past couple drafts can step up and contribute, along with vets who are more comfortable in the system year 2? I think we can surprise some people. I'm not buying that we're doomed and have the worst roster in football. We shall see.
