Akai EWI 5000 with Michael Brecker sounds

- After many years I picked up the EWI again. I used to have a Akai EWI 4000S, but it broke down many years ago. After many thoughts about the EWI, I bought one again and started diving into the Logic Pro Environment to build some nice layers sounds. Here is a quick snippet!

Hi Ben. These are killer sounds. Very expressive and textured. Great job!! I’m struggling to get anywhere with the EWI (I have a 4000s and a 5000) because the onboard sounds are so uninspiring out of the box.
Thanks mate! These are sounds by patchman music. I use them inside the logic es2 synth. They are indeed incredible sounds!
@@BenRodenburg his site says the 4000 patches don't work on the 5000. But then links from the 5000 page to the 4000. What patch bundle(s) did you get?
@@adamroberts4960 I got the presets for the es2 softsynth in logic pro. So i dont have the sounds stored on my EWI, but use the sounds inside logic pro

you sound great with those patches! I can't believe they cost so much only being vst settings though
Probably the costs are in making the sounds. It takes some time and knowledge to make those patches. But, they are great indeed! Very responsive and a pleasure to play!
I think it is a bargain considering what it would take to create these sounds from scratch and never getting it quite right!
Great sounds! I guess you use the ES2 Patchman windplug? What sounds within this plugin you used?
I had to find the session again, but I found it. These sounds were used: Brecker Sentimental Lead, *Brecker EWI Sync Lead, *Brecker EWI Steinerphone, Flute Synth, Clarinet

@@CANALDOSAXOFONISTA To do a video would be a bit difficult, because it is pretty hard to explain. I made a custom environment in Logic Pro with all kinds of switches and so on
How did you play those chord voicings at the end (0:19 and on)? Did you have it automated or "pre-harmonized" into Logic already? I'm currently working on trying to do something similar and I just don't have that much experience with midi.
I downloaded this midi VST called Midi Rotator: robbykilgore.com/midi-rotator-1-1/
With that I also made a custom environment in Logic Pro, where I made a session where I can switch sounds with the buttons on the EWI, and where I can engage the midi rotator when I press a pedal. Very fun to play around with!

Ahhh....Pedals for the EWI. I was like how in the living hell are you doing that! I've been mostly using the onboard stuff and people get all shocked and shaken when I break out the harmonica and organ. Some of the higher caliber musicians that never heard it are in amazement which is great to get that kind of reaction. HAHA!

Very nice! I am curious as to how you loaded the patchman sounds onto your vst. How did you load them into your DAW &/or VST and do you know if that same process can be applied to other DAW's (i.e. FL Studio, Ableton, etc.)?
Thanks! It is quite a thing. Patchman delivers the sounds as vst settings. I got them for the ES2 vst in logic, so that will not work in other DAW’s. But I think there are other options as well. The loading process is pretty easy!

Nice work, I have an intermittent interval key ( the key that lights up) but that also lets you go down numerically on sounds.
Have custom sounds in my ewi, any way to save those sounds in computer to rei out after repair or factory reset?
Hi man! I have no idea. I mainly use the EWI just as a midi controller, in combination with my computer. I don't really use the internat bank for sounds...
Hi Ben, i just got EWI 5000, and im struggling to connect it with my mac. Do you just plug in the EWI into mac using USB? because when i connect my EWI5000 into my mac, it looks like no any midi input. Really need help Thanks!

maybe you need to set it up in audio midi setup?

I have a midi plugin called a midi rotator. Don't really know where I found it, but it is somewhere for sale on the internet for around 20 bucks or so
How loud is the built in speaker on the EWI 5000
There is no speaker on the EWI 5000, the EWI solo has an in-built speaker
