These video series are the very BEST examples of how to teach anything really well. Not only is Saxman999 a gifted and talented teacher, but also a really friendly and truly nice guy. To top it all off, these videos are free.
I was having an issue with back pressure on an older model EWI4000s. I thought that it was an internal problem and proceeded to take it apart. In the process, I messed up the battery cartridge and had to get another EWI. The new one (EWI4000SW) was really easy to blow, and my initial thought was it was because it was new. Upon studying your tutorial (under the cover), I began to customize the bottom knobs. I realized that my back pressure problem on my old EWI was not an internal problem at all. The two knobs on the bottom have to be adjusted in conjunction to get the desired results. Your videos have been fantastic.
As usual this is SUPERB. Not only is the video clear, sharp with excellent audio, but the CONTENT is excellent. Saxman999 is a rare species, a teacher who excels at explaining potentially complex and confusing material in an easy to understand clear way. There is nothing on UA-cam or the Net that even comes close.
Totally agree with you Dan, these are really clear and instructive. No awkward pauses etc, Saxman999 knows exactly what he wants to say and gets right down to it. Brill.
This is really great and essential viewing for any new EWI players. It's made understanding the instrument so much easier and everything is explained very clearly. Thanks Alistair.
I bought an EWI 5000 I LOVE IT! You helped me to start out. I've been playing sax since '07 and it was easy to pick up. I hooked it up to my guitar effect peddle, worked well. Thanks for the vids, hello from Colorado!
Alistar Is the MAN Your lessons have led me to purchase another EWI after being frustrated with my 1st from a couple of years ago which was a PATCHMAN purchase, love Matt great guy by the way. I just couldn't get it playing to my liking at the time, so just like you said on one of your earlier lessons I got rid of it on Ebay, but now that I've seen your Lessons I'm going to load the PATCHMAN sounds hopefully my self on this new 4000s with the help of your videos. Once again thanks so much for your Lessons well done. Keep 'em coming PS your playing is also superb !!!!! It's actually quite easy. You can assign functions to the Pitch bend plates via the Menu. And there you can also disable the default function of the plates. It should be around page 26 in the manual.
Thanks for your wise tutorial, saxman. I just got the 4000s and have learned so much from watching your video. Now, at least, I have a clue as to how to manage this wonderful instrument.
Thanks for the lessons , I just received my EWI 4000s and played it for about two days and now I am not getting any straight sounds From my bottom three keys ? How do I reset to factory sound , I am getting wired wave sounds
Hi there I have a 4000s. And now I want to have more sounds so I bought a proteus 2000, so connected the midi but have no sound. I get the demo to play and get the EWI 4000s to play but can't get the EWI to play the proteus sounds, please I need help.
You talk about the pitch bend but don't say HOW you disabled the upper pitch bend, only that you did disable it. How did you disable that upper controller?
Hi saxman. Thanks for uploading. I've got a EWI USB. I can't really blow down mine like I do the sax. It feel blocked and I have to let air escape around the edges in order to be able to exhale while I am playing. Is that normal ?
Good evening teacher, what would be the configuration that I leave my ewi 4000s so that it recognizes the UHF wireless receiver? Thank you for the information.
I got the USB and returned it the same day and now have a 4000s. I knew what I was getting into with the USB, but I didn't realize just how inconvenient it would be. Firstly, the sounds it comes with kind of suck. This isn't a problem if you have some good VST's, but I do not. Also, there's a few (2-3ms) millisecond buffer delay with playing through a computer. I didn't realize how noticeable this would be as I've been playing on a midi keyboard for quite some time and never noticed it. But being a native woodwind player, I noticed it right away when I'd try to play with quick articulations. Double tonguing fast licks is not really possible, at least in my experience. Additionally, you can't adjust the sensitivity on the USB model. Probably not an issue if you're coming from a reed instrument, but as a flute player, I really needed to adjust this. So yeah I went with the 4000s and am very happy. It's much more convenient and allows for greater playing ability on technical riffs imo. But who knows, your results could vary depending on what you're looking to use it for and your setup. Hope this helps!
@@TimN-5 That helps a lot thank you ,it seems the 4000s is not very easy to get in the UK as its been discontinued ,importing from the USA or Japan seems the only option but then you end up paying quite a bit for a secondhand instrument ,have you ever tried an aerophone ?
Thanks Alistair. Could you possibly do a quick video about your set-up i.e. hardware/ software for gigs etc? I've got the 5000s now so any help would be appreciated.
Just would ask,if for example piece in F-sharp major, you will use transpose button and play like you would play in c major or you will actually use f-sharp fingering?

You can unscrew the pitch bend blocks and move them, if you need more space in between.
Good tip. Thanks.
Thank you for a very clear exposition of these technical issues. Good work!
Yes thats exactly correct. This is discussed in his other tutorials.
these are awesome videos. .keep them coming.

I have a EWI USB and can´t get it to work with Sibelius. It get´s CC information but doesn´t write notes when I record. Do you know what to do?

@@MrThelonliestpunk I have not. That's a tough situation. I'm in the US so I just ordered from Amazon.
Great lessons, thank you. Do you have any problems with battery life / and being 'attached' to a cable?

Hi, could you explain how to get the vibrato effect on the ewi? Do you bite the mouthpiece?
Yes. You can apply pressure and relax pressure to enable vibrato.
Hi Alistair. Some advice please. I’ve been playing saxophone for 2 years now. Which would you recommend. Roland go or Akai 5000
I think I’d recommend the Roland. It’s certainly the easiest one to learn and play well.
iSax - Alistair Parnell . Thanks for your reply Alistair. I’m going for the aerophone go.
