  • We visited Statfold Country Park on Friday 8th September and I’ll be completely honest, First impressions were disappointing and I thought about just leaving.
The signs directed us to the wrong car park and the owner of that piece of land wasn’t happy people were walking around his land, The girl on the ticket booth didn’t know if my payment had gone through and asked me to check with my bank as her payment machine didn’t give a receipt.
I was not given a map or any information and I had to ask what time the train was running (I didn’t know at this point there was a steam train line at the back through the museum)
We headed up to the Mease Valley Light Railway as the first train departed at 10:30, The 2 gents working were very welcoming and friendly. We left the station and headed down the to the trails. They offered to wait if we wanted to walk around there but Isaac wanted to ride the train once again.
When we arrived back up to the top end we heard a steam train and the 2 gents gave us some more information about the place and how to get to the steam train. This started to feel a little more exciting now we had some actual information.
The journey on MVLR was around 5 minutes in each direction and passed a field which doubled up as a caravan / camping site
We walked down to the main entrance and into the museum, we were greeted with quite a good selection of steam trains and a big turntable. Through the next set of doors there was a bar and some tables to sit to eat food with a few more steam trains. There was a bouncy castle, an inflatable slide and a little fairground ride which had swings on - all these were included in the ticket we had purchased which was the “All inclusive ticket” just a little further on was a huge soft play on the right hand side. Leaving the engine shed to an outside area with a few kids games, benches and some Diggers with little stones which Isaac loved. There was a crafts section to the left with a shop next to it and an outside decked area attached to the soft play.
A little further and through a covered area was the steam train line. The guard for this train was friendly and welcoming. We boarded the train down to the Fellumpas Village where we jumped off the train and spotted them. We then boarded the train which then completed the rest of the loop and back up to the station.
The staff members in the soft play and serving on the bar/ doubling up on the inside fair ride were really nice and friendly.
We ordered Pizza and chips which was reasonably priced and soft drinks were too.
A staff member advised us when the kids were on the fairground ride that they were preparing for a Road, Rail and ale festival at the weekend so all the trucks, buses and tractors etc were for that.
We would have visited again on our way home but they aren’t open on Mondays as Isaac really enjoyed his day out here.
Parking was free and the car park was pretty big.
