- Enjoy the unboxing and assembly of my Himiway cruiser Fat tire electric bicycle. This is my first attempt at a multi camera video. Unfortunately towards the end one of my cameras shut off, so I did a voice over to complete the video. Enjoy!

This video was a life saver. Himiway's videos and owners manual were very bad. They didn't even match what was in my box. Your video was exactly what I received and my chain guard was in the accessory box and I had no idea what it was. Thank you for putting this video together. I gave Himiway my assembly feedback, hopefully they will make improvements
Your welcome, glad it helped!
YAY you took battery out and set it to change! I've watched MANY videos were folks haven't done that. Thank you for video. Ride on!
Thanks for watching! 👍
Thank you so much for putting this video together! It was very helpful to follow along with your example as I put my Himiway together this afternoon. Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!
Many thanks to you, Tinkering Turtle! My cruiser went together easily with your instructions. Thank you for all your videos. I'll surely be tweaking the cruiser and will need your help again.
I’m glad the video was helpful! Enjoy the ride!
Just started unboxing mine and quickly realized after watching this video that there is no bag of nuts, bolts, or whatever hardware that came with my bike. Great video though, it already has saved me alot of time.
Glad I could help!
Man, this video saved me sooo much time assembling my himiway. Thank you so much!
You're welcome, I am glad it helped!
Just assembled mine, withheld from this video! Really not a tough set up at all. Rides like a beast!
Nice work! Enjoy your bike!
Thankyou! That was a great first time video,Ill be assembling my HImiway tomorrow and following your simple protocol. Thanks again!
Glad it was helpful! Good luck!
Great Video! I will watch again before assembling my Himiway. Thanks for the customers view of the assembly
Any time!
Excellent video! I like how you got in close when you needed too and fast forwarded at parts like screwing screws.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
@@TinkeringTurtle I'm on the fence about getting that bike that I probably will, and your video will help me. Thanks again

Thanks for the video my step thru is coming in a few days and I feel better about hubby and I putting it together now.
Wonderful!
Just ordered mine last night, thanks for the great detailed video. Now I guess I'll just have to wait. I chose Himiway for the quality Motor and battery that comes standard, and the great free accessories. I'll be watching this again when it comes.
Nice! Same reasons I ultimately chose Himiway as well. Over a thousand miles since August 1st...we couldn’t be happier with our choice.
@@TinkeringTurtle Himiway should pay you for what I have seen, you have sold 10 e-bikes.
@Bill Hawkins
You don’t have to do anything.
Of course if you want to help, the best thing is to just refer people to my channel. I need a thousand subscribers before I can get advertising. Also use the links I provide in the video description for parts when you can, I am an Amazon affiliate and I get 3% back off those purchases.

Thanks so much for the walk through, I just got done putting mine together.

Thanks for the video, really made the bike assembly really easy. 👍🏼
Glad I could help!
Hi My bike is here. My son in law is going to put it together for me. Thanks for the video.
Your welcome, have fun!
Great assembly detail that I found very helpful. I just got my bike (after the customary 2 month wait) and found their written instructions and video are pretty spartan. Thanks ! ("Tinkering Turtle" - love that moniker !! )
Glad it helped! Enjoy the ride.
Your videos are really amazing I just ordered my bike and I feel confident that I can unboxed it put it together and add my accessories. So amazing thank you so much. Maybe with all due respect…could lower that background music it is really hard to concentrate on your voice due to that music.
Glad I could help!
Just got my H Cruiser, Very nice looking bike although kind of big (I'm 5' 7")! I need to adjust the seat back. Question. The seat adjust hex head screw underneath the seat. To loosen the bracket do I turn the screw clockwise (like I think it should be) or counter clock wise? Either direction the screw doesn't seem to move much. Don't want to strip it. Thanks for the answer.
Its a normal bolt, so lefty loosy...righty tighty. (counter clockwise to loosen)
I like how you stay organized....thanks for the vid....!!!
I try...thanks for watching!
I finally got my himiway got it assembled thanks for the video my question is the battery my wife has a rad they said to charge it for twelve hours for the first three charges regardless of how many bars where used after that charge till you see the green light and always charge it after you ride even if it's not low because theirs no memory technology in the battery does the same hold true on a himiway battery
Your welcome for the video. To your question, yes and no. The advice Rad gives is basically the same for Himiway.
You want to overcharge the first few times to balance the cells. But my understanding is that these batteries have a given number of charges. For battery longevity it’s best to not fully charge. Charging to 80%-90% will extend the life of the battery.
So I tend to charge every other ride, which reduces the number of charge cycles.
Here is a good article on battery maintenance.
www.electricbike.com/ebike-battery-longevity/
Was going to buy a Rad but since I weigh 275, the limit of the Rad, I went with the Himiway 350 weight limit.
That was part of the reason I chose Himiway as well. But more than that the larger 17.5ah battery was a driving factor in choosing this bike.
@@TinkeringTurtle Ah yes, so many people don't understand the importance of understanding the math equations concerning battery packs. nor do they realize the importance of QUALITY batteries, So many dealers make false claims about distance... I need say any more, I'm certain you know more than I!
Very helpful. Thanx! I have a little, black L-bracket leftover. Any idea where it goes? TIA
Your welcome!
the bracket is an extra, it’s for the front fender stay at the bottom of the front forks.
Thank you for making this video. It was very helpful in putting my bike together. The owner Manuel was not very helpful.
You're welcome!
Great videos. Would you think about doing a video explaining the shifting and proper gears used for different rides and terrain? Many people are unfamiliar with proper shifting for an ebike.
Great suggestion!
I'd like to see a video like that too.
Me three, plus all the things on the handlebars! Any hint as to where to look? You were great e/assembly!
Ok, thx for assembly info, but what about all the things on the handlebars?? Geez, is there a way to get info re function?
Got off after first ride, but didn't know to remove battery or not...is there an "off?"
Hi Gregory, I am a little confused by your comment. This video showed how to do the basic assembly of the bike out of the box. I have done other videos showing more info on setup and upgrading. I didn’t show how to use the bike as far as changing gears, etc as this is normal bike stuff. I did do a video on typical settings that can be adjusted in this video.

As far as the battery, the key simply releases it from the bike. There is no “on” or “off”.
I hope this helps!

My Himiway arrived today!!! However didn't heed your warning about the headlight connection. I didn't see the two super fine wires and thought the red plastic was a protective plug. I proceeded to try and pull the "plug" out and of course it broke into pieces. I watched several assembly videos including Himiway's and none showed specifically how this connect works. Oh well, I'll hard wire it tomorrow. Great first ride though but I had to cut it short because of darkness with no headlight :(
Experience is a cruel mentor. It gives you the test first....and teaches the lesson second. 😉
Enjoy the ride!
Great video. I will follow your advice when I assemble my Himiway. How long did it take to receive your Himiway from your order date to arrival?
2 months and a few days, if I remember correctly.
You the man! Your videos are very helpful.
I appreciate that!

@@TinkeringTurtle Thanks.
I just finished assembling my new cruiser. You’re video was good help thanks
One question I have a small 90 degree black bracket with two holes in it left over. It was in the fastener package. Where do you think it would go?
Hey Brian, good question. The answer is that the bracket is extra. We all have one.
It appears to be the same bracket that is at the bottom of the front fork. Throw it in your “bike box” in case you need it down the road.

Thanks
I bought my Cruiser from Himiway in Canada. The bike was perfect except for the brakes. They substituted the Tektro Aries 180 mm brakes with Radius 180 mm. brakes . The cheaper brakes had a problem with pulsating and rubbing and I had to change the rotors . Himiway reimbursed me.
They should have put the Tektros brakes as advertised ...they're just better brakes.
Bummer to hear that. I wonder if the supply chain issues forced them to substitute?
Either way I am glad they reimbursed you.
The small U Shaped piece that is left over is for protecting the rear derailleur if the bike accidental falls over. The screw holes match up.
The derailleur guard is “U” shaped.
Got one question for you
? I seen the part also in your video of the nuts bolts and screws bag. There is a black steel L bracket with two holes one one each end of the L . It is the only spare part I was left with after assembly???
Oh.. Also thanks for a GREAT video it help me a lot!!!! :-)
l
Glad you liked the video, be sure to subscribe for future info!
The “L” bracket is extra, we all had one. I think it is a replacement for the brackets on the lower end of the front forks. In case you need it, but no one is sure about it.
@@TinkeringTurtle Ok thanks.. I wasn't sure but just needed to know! I don't like spare parts.
Great vid sorry you lost some footage. I noticed in your bag of hardware you have the same 90 degree black bracket that I have. What is it for , did you use yours? Thanks again
It’s extra. It’s a front fender stay bracket that fits on the bottom of the front fork. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. The manual that came with the bike really sucks for assembly. The only part I really had trouble trying to figure out was the headlight and front fender assembly. That U bracket really sucked and was not appropriate for the light or the included bolt. The hole on the bracket had a square hole and the bolt had a round head. Why? Did they not have the correct part? And the U bracket was too big for the light. Terrible fit.
I didn’t have too many issues with mine. But it is possible that Chinese manufacturing is behind in production and they are using alternate parts. Covid is taking a toll everywhere.
@@TinkeringTurtle I ordered that bag you have. But my wife wants a basket for groceries. Any recommendations?
I haven’t really researched baskets. It’s best to measure the bolt pattern on the frame and start researching on Amazon or aliexpress and see if you can find something close.

putting together 2 step thru's, one of the bikes front fenders top light bracket is smaller than the other ones and is not large enough for the light mounting bolt to go thru any suggestions. its riveted on top of the front fender.
Not really. If it is different than the other, then an email to support is your best bet.
Make sure your forks are correctly oriented as that can affect the fit of the fender.
If you post pics in the Facebook groups we might be able to help further.
Ordered mine last night. You should post a link for a referral! Will watch when I get mine. Thanks.
Done! thanks for the idea!
Did you have to change the suspension seatpost spring to the red spring? I'm a big guy also! And did you look at the Santori suspensions? Thanks!
Yes, I did change the spring. And I did not look at the Satori seat posts. At the time, with the pandemic, selection was a little slim.
I chose the Suntour it was mechanical with metal parts. I didn’t like the idea of rubber that could break down over time. Hope this helps your choice!
Thanks I'll be getting my new Himiway cruiser soon.
I also bought an extra battery because I like going for rides 50 miles and more if possible.
Himiway doesn't sell the battery mount tray so I can't bolt it to the rack and lock the extra battery down to it like I did on my Radrover. How would you carry an extra battery for your Himiway cruiser??
Backpack? Or I would rig up something on the back rack...
Not that it helps you now, but if you would have purchased the second battery off of aliexpress it would have been less expensive and would have come with the cradle.
Sorry I could not be more helpful.
I found this on google. I think with a little searching you can find quite a bit of info out there.

My bag of nuts and bolts came with a little angle bracket. Do you know what that's for?
That is an “extra” fender stay bracket for the bottom of the front fender.
Thanks for sharing. This will help me with mine
Glad I could help!
What is the music? Sounds really grateful...
It’s named “Potato Deal”. I got it off epidemic sound.
Do you have a suggestion on bike locks? Cafe locks fit the fat tire? Will the kryptonite gravity wheel locks work with this bike?

You forgot the black L-bracket which will raise the headlight up by about an inch. It really helps with the light being able to point in front of you without being blocked by the fender.
While that bracket is actually an extra fender stay bracket for the front fork, many people have indeed used it to raise up the headlight. Thanks for the comment!
Hello, I need to replace the rear axle nut. The right side nut when the bike is upside down. Can you tell me the size/ model number so I can buy a replacement? Thanks!

Pretty sure I’ve watched every himiway video on UA-cam (twice). Still waiting for mine to be delivered 5 weeks and counting. Already have all the upgrades I want at the house just waiting for the bike
Nice! If your on the Facebook groups, post pics when you get it!
Ness, I too have PROBABLY seen every Himiway review on the net. There are so many side by side comparisons with the Rad Rover, different people have done real life tests with throttle only, unlocked, showing speed and range on the stock $1,499 model. I see you've already purchased updates. Which ones did you get? Tinkering Turtle has many videos on Himiway upgrades. He's a heck of a guy and always responds (as long as it's not to a troll). He has a Himiway with probably 1,600 miles it! no problems!
Also, where did you purchase your Himiway from? I think there's at least 2 dealers on the west coast
hi David, just for clarification, as far as I know, Himiway does not have any US based dealers. I think the two facilities you are referring to on the west coast are distribution warehouses.
Thank you for supporting my channel!!
@@TinkeringTurtle Sir, 2 things... one, thank you for the clarification. I've seen many comments posted about the quality of service. Have had any dealings? I believe you have posted some comments? And two, on your site, you're addressed as Tinkering Turtle, out of old school respect, (even though I'm pushing 59 years old) it just kind of feels odd to address you as Mr. Tink... or Mr. Turtle, or even "Tinkering"
Would you please give me your thoughts on how I should respectfully address you.
Thank you, Sprad (aka David Spradley)
Finally the Bike has arrived! Missing only one part so not to bad. I noticed that the manual shows the springs on front axil going from fork to nut/handle Large to Small? Opposite of what you are showing. Who is right :)
Great catch!
The picture in the manual is wrong. If you watch both the Himiway released assembly videos, they show the small part going in towards the hub. I have never seen the large part on the inside.
Also the consensus on the handle for the quick release is that it should be on the brake side of the front tire. left side of the bike if your sitting on it.
Thanks for the quick reply!! I'll go with your plan.
Hey so my derailleur guard came seperate; unattached! How do I attach it? What does it do? Is it necessary?
There should be two bolts (hopefully) included to attach it over the derailleur. It protects the derailleur from getting damaged if you crash or have something hit it. While it’s not required, it is strongly recommended to have it on your bike to prevent damage.
I would send an image but UA-cam does not have a way to do that. You might want to consider joking the two Himiway Facebook groups and post there. There are a lot of Himiway owners happy and willing to help you out.
Enjoy the ride!
Does the charger shutdown after the battery is fully charged?
Yes it does
Nice video; I like the music. Just Fyi, , there’s an unboxing video put out by Himiway that shows the recommended steps for putting the bike together. That video makes it look fairly easy.
It is pretty easy. I definitely think that you should watch both videos before you assemble. I put out my video to show more details about the assembly.
Thanks for watching, and be sure to subscribe for future videos!
It's a bit outdated. It assumes you don't have fenders. So it has you install the headlight after the handlebars, which will screw you since you have fenders now.
I wish the manual had a parts list. You have to guess what fasteners go where. Not that it's that difficult for handy people, but others will have a problem.
Are you referring to the Himiway assembly video, or this one?
4:00 You can set a passcode on the display screen that needs to be entered before the bike can be powered.
I am well aware. (I actually did a video detailing how to set it up)
But I think a key option to disable the battery would be more convenient. Many other brands do this, and I like the idea. Thank you for your feedback!
Great, I mentioned it here since it wasn't noted as an option in the video to potentially remediate the key concern.
Just great! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Tinkering, I wasn't sure where to post this comment and hope you can help. My wife and I have Himiway Cruisers for a year and she has always had issues with the seat post slipping. I would tighten the collar to the point where I can't lock in place. I recently purchased on Amazon Fiber Grip Carbon Fiber hoping this would help and I'm not seeing any improvement. I weight 250 and have no issues with my bike, she weighs 140 and had issues. I'm thinking about moving my seat post to her bike to see if that resolves the issue. Have you experienced this? Do you have any idea on how I can fix this? Thanks again. Love your UA-cam channel! Thanks Dave
Are you using the original seat post that came with the bike or have you switched it to something else?
I'm using the original seat post the came with the bike.
It sounds like you have tried the obvious tips. (fiber grip)
I am not certain if the tube diameter can be reduced by removing the clamp and squeezing the tube down slightly or not. You may want to contact support and see if they have any tips.
I was also thinking about taking my seat (and post) off my Himiway Cruiser and put on my wife's bike to see if this resolves her issue. If it does, then I will order her a new seat post from Himiway. I will reach out the Himiway if the problem persist. Thanks again for you quick response.
Good idea!
Hi Tim. My wife is considering the Himi Cruiser Step Thru. She's 5'2"-5'3". Her inseam was 31" with shoes on. Curious how tall your wife is? Does she have any trouble with the size of the cruiser? We like riding gravel roads and some moderate trails. Insights??? Thanks again.
My wife is 5’ 6” tall with around a 29” inseam. I don’t know if she has ever ridden my cruiser. I think she could, but she would have to lean it over to get her leg up and over. The thing to remember is that once your up and moving the bikes are very stable. I can even ride with no hands up and over hills!
Hope this helps.
@@TinkeringTurtle Thanks. I was interested in whether she has any trouble handling her step thru? Does she wish she'd gotten something smaller, maybe a RAD mini?
No she is happy with her step thru. She does caution that you need to be careful as you learn to mount/dismount as it is a tall bike. But once your used to it, it will be second nature. We typically use our throttle to get moving as we step up and get on the seat. We find it easier than trying to pedal while doing it.
Hope this helps.
@@TinkeringTurtle Thanks again. Based on a prior question I asked you, I ordered the step thru last Friday for myself. Can't wait for the many weeks to pass until it is delivered.. Been researching for my wife but haven't found anything else that comes close to the Himiway. Think she's going to order the Himi Cruiser Step Thru.
I really appreciate the videos you posted. They will be most helpful when my bike arrives. Happy riding.
Hello, I changed my seat to suspension but the 30.4 shim isn’t working on the step through. What size is the clamp on the cruiser? And could it be larger than 30.4?
Both our 2020 Himiway bikes (stepthru and cruiser) are 30.4mm. My best advice is to measure it.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful.
@@TinkeringTurtle what size is our clamp?
I don’t know how to measure the clamp. sorry.
Did you measure the inside diameter of the tube?
Does Himiway have a dealership here in the USA or just in china. Also I hear there is a $40
fee for shipping? or something like that is this true?
As far as I know, Himiway does not have any dealerships in the U.S.
There is no shipping fee. But some customers have been charged an international payment fee by their credit card company. This is not a Himiway fee. And only some credit cards charge it. I would contact your credit card company for more info.
Hope this helps.
Yes thank you so much
What does the black L bracket that comes in the hardware bag go to? Maybe I missed it in the video...
It is an extra fender stay bracket. It goes on the bottom of the front fork. Keep it in case you need it later.
@@TinkeringTurtle okay gotcha! Also, this one came with another black bracket/holder of some sort. It's much bigger and the attachment points kind of bend in towards each other, what is it for? I also noticed there is an attachment point with a 4mm bolt on the side of the chain just above the bottom attachment point of the rear fender. Any idea what that's for?
The larger “U” shaped bracket is the derailleur guard. As to the attach point, I’m not sure I would have to see it. Have you posted in on of the Himiway Facebook groups yet?
@@TinkeringTurtle ohh okay did you install that in the video? If so I must have missed it lol. No, I haven't posted anything I'm not in the group. This is my dads bike and he's on vacation and I'm watching their dog and saw the bike in the garage in the box, got bored and decided to put it together. I'll look around some and if I can't find the answer I'll join and post. Thanks for the quick responses!
@@TinkeringTurtle okay I just figured it out. That attachment point is for that guard. This one was not installed.
DID YOU BUY AN EXTRA FRONT FENDER? iT LOOKED LIKE THE BIKE ONLY CAME WITH ONE.
Do you have a Himiway or are you still thinking about it?
Does the chain go on the smallest sprocket on rear wheel?
You can start with it there. As you spin the pedals it should move to wherever the derailleur is set to.
How's the bike been? I ordered my Himiway July 30th from a dealer and was told it should be shipping soon. It's getting shipped directly to a bike shop for assembly though.
How did the local bike shop do with your assembly?
@@TinkeringTurtle
Awesome - I got my bike on Sat and rode Sat, Sunday, and briefly Monday night. It's a great bike and I had a lot of fun.
However, I weigh 200lbs exactly, and I got only 35 miles the 1st day on a charge with mostly peddle assist 3 (and peddling mostly) and 30 the following (much more peddle assist and throttle though). Then yesterday I decided to use mostly throttle and I didn't even get 20 miles. Is this normal? Himiway claims 40 to 60 miles with 25 to 30 on throttle alone. I'm not even close.
Pedal assist 3 (PAS 3), if your running the stock 0-5, is a very high power setting. It will deplete the battery very quickly. In addition to that, the first half dozen charges on the battery will balance the cells and give you a better battery output.
Charge it full and unplug it for 30 minutes then plug it back in for an hour. This will help balance the cells inside.
You should get around 30 miles on throttle alone (give or take depending on terrain and how hard you push the bike) and up to 65 miles if your on PAS 1 and pedaling with some effort.
If you continue to have issues after that contact Himiway for guidance.
@@TinkeringTurtle
Will do - thanks!
On a side note, my battery indicator on the module was going from full to depleted/totally dead in a matter of a few miles towards the end of the charge. I called Himiway who were great and they said the voltage regulator was set to 38 volt instead of 48V and had me hold down the Pus/Minus/Power buttons at the same time to change it to the correct 48V. IIt worked and now reads properly.
@@wellfleetion I've never put my assist more than 2 which is way more than needed. Yeah if you put it on 3 or above, of course the battery isnt going to last as long.
Thanks very much for that. Since you have both bikes and two people, how is the standover height for each of you on the cruiser? Comfortable? Do you know your inseam lengths, floor to crotch? Would help many,. I'm sure.
And would you be concerned to flip it over for the front wheel install? No easy way to move or protect items on the handlebar, perhaps? Thx.
My wife is 5’ 6” (don’t know inseams) and she doesn’t have too many issues with stand over. She does tend, as I do, to stand slightly off to the side of the bike. I am 6’ 3”. I started by swinging my leg over to get on but lately I lean the bike and put my foot over the bar.
No doubt this is a tall bike. But once your up on it, it is very stable and has a nice balance!
I have flipped the bike over for maintenance. (see my rear tire removal video) I used blocks under the grips to keep the other components off the floor and in damaged.
Ich liebe dieses Bike 👍💪
I couldn’t agree more!

@@frndthdevl after a year of people complaining I have seriously toned down the music I my more recent videos. I just couldn’t find a level that people liked. I don’t want to overwhelm the content with music…kind of defeats the purpose.
I hear bad things about himiway's warranty
I’ve heard way more good than bad.
I am buying an ebike due to my age. Am told that $1500 is at the low end. Still, for me $1500 is a lot of money. The ebike forum on ElectricBikeReview (EBR) has horror stories about Himiway (mostly about missing and broken parts and support coming directly from China, i.e. “Ken”). The consensus is to stay away. All the reviews on UA-cam on the other hand don’t have a bad word to say about the bike.
I am reaching out to you because you say that you’re just a customer and have no connection to the company. I believe you. Are the complainers just a few one-offs? Or, if I’m not a tinkering turtle is this not the ebike for me.
I like the bike and it’s at a price I can afford. But, I cannot afford a high maintenance lemon. You’ve had the bike for some time now, tell us what you think.
There are no guarantees. But it’s notable that Himiway, from my understanding, has sold something like 10,000 bikes give or take ... In the last year. Even if a hundred of those bikes had issues, the odds are still in your favor. To my knowledge, everyone has eventually had their issues resolved. Don’t let one, or even a handful of “squeaky wheels” sway your decision.
My personal experience with Himiway. I did not have any major issues. Some scuffed paint (which I just touched up), and a rivet that failed (I just used a pop-riveter to replace it). So I didn’t put in any warranty issues for that.
I have reached out to them about a dozen times to ask questions and get clarifications. In each of those instances I have received an email back in about 24-48hrs sometimes less. They have been courteous and mostly helpful...(sometimes there is a language barrier and it’s difficult to get detailed info across)
If you find yourself in that situation just have a little patience and things should get worked out.
How tall is your Wife?
5’ 6” tall
@@TinkeringTurtle thanks I am trying to find someone that is closer to 5"2" to see how big the bike is for them that is my wife's height
This video would be so much better without the music! It's just distracting and irritating.
Thanks for the feedback
