Wow. Thanks for this. Yeah this is just a hobby of mine and I don't do it for cash or anything. I've always found the begging for subs and stuff really weird. Like, everyone already knows how YT works and if they wanna sub they will so why ask? Short guides are on hold a bit until we get some new SC content. I went back to my silly opinion pieces and such until then. Once again thank you though!!
I've been told that roll is the least important of the pitch/yaw/roll stats on a ship. I agree with everything you mention in this video, just from my "feelings" while playing, but it seems roll would be very important to keep aiming into the pitch.
Generally yes, since most ships have higher roll rates compared to yaw (some MUCH higher), you roll to counter lateral moves from you opponent (keeping him 'above') , which then allows you to pitch your nose onto target. I tend to use the lower yaw rate for finer adjustments and to keep my movement a little harder to track. The more CIG alters the flight mod to give us that "WWII in space" pseudo aerial combat the more these sorts of moves become relevant and the more at least one stick (or some other analog roll input) becomes necessary.
A fast roll gives you an advantage if you’re willing to use it. That’s why the Buccaneer is a ship for good pilots: the das troll rate lets you keep an enemy better in your gun sights. But it requires skill (and more than just mouse and keyboard). The “easy to use” ships have a yaw speed similar to roll speed.
Great vid! Cleared up certain issues i was having. Now for me to conquer decoupled fighting. so hard to know where to put my ship, when to boost and how to maneuver when in a dog fight. Loving these little vids mate. Keep them coming.
I appreciate these very short video. Ill definitely try to get into space combat as soon as I dont get onetapped by 6 hornets in squadron battle anymore.
@@BuzzCutPsycho TBH I don't think they have fixed my chief complaint (small ship, disruptor gameplay.) But when I left it was such a state that i lost a lot of loot to server crashes. so I'm like "how much worse can it be?" lmao.
Nice video sir. I know you are going for simplicity here but mentioning the movement advantages you can get using the capacitor might be worth adding, if we are talking winning
So in other words, like we have been in aircraft for years. A lot of roll and pitch up. There is a reason aircraft have roll and pitch on the X and Y axis of the stick. I could never get used to the idea of using your twist axis to roll. It makes sense to me that the bottom thrusters of your ship offer more output. They have to overcome gravity.
Just as Growling Sidewinder uses to say: keep your lift vector on your bandit. It is a bit weird that this applies here to, because there is no aerodynamic lift in space, but considering that Star Citizen wants to be IL-2 Sturmovik in front of a matte painting of space, it makes sense. Sort of.
Gladius hands down. And I would go into Vanduul swarm and practice hard in there until you get the aim down. Hornet MK2 is broken now so dont go into squad battle until that thing gets fixed.
I'm doing it in a tana, its not really fun though. it dont help that the whole center of the ship that is targeted by enemies is cockpit. I pray the Tana gets a rework to either give it an armored cockpit or add the one fury's blast sheilds.
I have a question. Certain ships like the Gladius have a higher propulsion going upwards (9.9G, and 12.9G boosting). While the downwards propulsion is 5.0G and 6.8G boosting. It would be your benefit to fight maneuvering upwards instead of below like you do in your dogfight example right? To stay out of your opponents line of sight while you shoot him. (if it was not a mirror match)
In general yes. Keep in mind that is your down strafe and not necessarily your down pitch. I've not noticed too much of a difference from up / down pitch but noticed a big difference with up and down strafe.
How is it that a game in 2024 looks about as good as an engine that came out in 1999 (FS2, with fans modifying the engine obviously)? I'm stunned that the SC and SQ42 devs have focused so little on the actual in-flight gameplay, graphics and mechanics and so much more on everything else. Mind boggling.
@@BuzzCutPsycho I don't have any real hopes for this to materialize as a fun game at all. Which is a real shame. I'd LOVE a good space flight game again, it's been way too long.
@@BuzzCutPsycho yeah , no wonder i was so into it . make it decoupled and you get the same feeling , flight experience ;P only missing is the mass from loads
It is shocking that you talk in the description of the video of "secret" technique that the community would love to keep a secret, that is just a lie, if a pilot wants to learn the most effective way to combat they just need to put the time in it, and not wait for someone to make all the work and chew it for you. Your usual views on the pvp community are always misleading.
My views on a large portion of the PvP community is absolutely spot on. And always has been. A small group I've met is quite good and helpful, though most are just insufferable nerds that cannot handle losing. One or two sessions in AC Squadron Battles over the course of free fly where people were using very obviously bugged hornets (both tracker and MK2) to stomp on free flight noobs pretty much says it all. Get over yourself.

Yes, you are right. I did want to keep it fundamentally simple. There is of course more i could elaborate one. Perhaps in the future.
Thanks for the pro tip!
NP!
should have mentioned its a must for atmo flight also.
My bad. I may do a short atmosphere video too.
It s not about pitch aim it s about rolling in the aim , easier to understand and practice
Well you usually have to roll to get into the pitch.:) but you right

only sort of
It’s because most ships have the most powerful thrusters on the bottom, thus pitching is way faster than yawing.
Yessir!
Hell yeah brother
