  • This is a lightweight, comfortable, and breathable rain jacket. It's handy to have with you for a windy or a cool day or anytime it's raining, and has a nice trim fit and good feel to it.

      Awesome, thank you. It is kind of fun when you get going, but sometimes you trip on words and have to do ‘retakes’ haha.
      If I could add a comment it’s that this coat is slightly warmer than my LLBean raincoat, so when it’s hot and humid it’s not as comfy, but few coats keep you cool when it’s 75+ degrees.
      Man I should get going up n more vids...

    I thought I was going to love this jacket, but I just returned it today.
    I didn't like where the velcro was placed on the cuffs.
    And I didn't like how big the collar looks when the hood is down.
    What I did like is the mesh lining and the material of the coat itself.
    Lastly the navy blue color appeared purplish to me.

      Will this jacket be good for traveling such as to hot and humid places or would it get too hot? How is the breathability?

    • @mokyan7
      @mokyan7  6 років тому

      JayHizzo decent breathabilty, but it is slightly thicker than some other rain jackets. Hopefully more durable. It would probably feel hot if it was 70* or warmer.
      It has a netted inside lining to keep it off your skin, but no underarm vents.
      I think the LL Bean rain jacket and a Merrell one I tested were lighter.
      It has worked fine for temps in the 50-65* F ranges for me.

    How breathable is this jacket? Would it work for hiking in the rain, or are there better options?

    • @Mattheus217
      @Mattheus217 7 місяців тому +1

      It is a little thicker fabric, so probably not the best if it’s hot/humid.
      For example, Marmot Precip, LL Bean trail rain jacket, North Face rain jacket, and Merrell rain jacket are a bit thinner and lighter.
      I think this jacket seems fine if it’s 60-68 * Fahrenheit, because it is cool and rainy.
      It slso has worked well if out in a boat because there is more wind when on lakes, etc. It is also a good layer over a close-fitting thin fleece.

      @cdb8315 7 місяців тому +1

      @@Mattheus217 thanks for your reply. I was using an old HH (don’t know the model) this past week in 50-55 degree rainy weather which would come off after 1/4 mile because I’d get too hot. Was just thinking it would be nice to have a jacket thin enough to breathe. Will check out the brands you mentioned.

    • @Mattheus217
      @Mattheus217 7 місяців тому +1

      @@cdb8315 well I haven’t been hiking in weather that cool but using it for work and errands I’ve been fine in the 50s and 60s. the inside of a coat has a netting layer that keeps it off your skin and that may help with breathability but when it’s summertime, I like a coat that’s lighter

  • @VeganTeacher
    @VeganTeacher 3 місяці тому

    Hi, did you wear it for 5-7 C degrees? With thermal layer and a thick sweatshirt inside, do you think this jacket will be enough for the weather?

    • @Mattheus217
      @Mattheus217 3 місяці тому

      If I’m doing the math correctly, that’s 41 to 47°F. If you have a sweatshirt or fleece underneath it that probably could work because this coat will block wind, but doesn’t insulate as well as the fleece.
      For the raincoat alone, I usually wear it when temps are in the 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit. Any higher than that and it’s just too warm.
      On several trips we have taken I have taken a fleece plus the raincoat and it’s great if you need one item or both layers.
      The inside of the jacket has a mesh surface to keep it away from your skin and allow it to breathe a little better. But if it’s under 60°F, it’s not warm enough by itself.
      So if the temperature is only 41 to 47° F I usually wouldn’t wear this rain jacket. I would pick a warmer jacket, but if you have a layer or 2 underneath, perhaps it could balance out and then it’ll be easier to pack.

      Thank you. On the humid days it seems a bit warm. The best for breathability I’ve tried is LL Bean rain jacket and Marmot Precip.
      Both of these are super lightweight and repel water well.
      I wore the LL Bean jacket this morning because we have warmer humid weather here lately.
      I like the fit of this Seven J, but if temps are above 70’s *F it is too warm for me

      Sure. I have an LL Bean rain jacket that is waterproof but very light weight and breathable. My wife does too.
      Also I have tried on/tested a Marmot rain jacket and a Merrell rain jacket that were very light too, yet still waterproof.
      All 3 of those jackets were lighter than the Helly Hansen jacket.

    How is the durability, still good here a few years later?
    Does it breathe well enough for relaxed bike commuting and the like?

    • @mokyan7
      @mokyan7  4 роки тому +1

      Still in good condition, very good, and smooth. Actually though I’d prefer if the hip area was a couple inches bigger because it is tight when you sit in the car, etc. It may also be tight on hips when bike riding unless you pull it up slightly.
      Breathability is okay, but it seems a little thicker and warmer than the LLBean, Under Armour, North Face or Merrell competitors.
      In hot humid weather it is too hot. In spring and fall if 50’s and 60’s F it is fine.
      Also water beads off wonderfully and it has a nice trim appearance.

      Thanks. Luckily I live in Denmark so hot and humid is a rare thing :-) Though I'm considering getting an XL instead of a Large so it's a bit more roomy, would also leave a bit of room for an extra layer in winter.
      You know, considering how expensive quality rain wear can be, it's kinda crazy how difficult it is to find reviews. Aside from Amazon, you video was literally the only thing I could find, so thank you for that. Will be copying your zipper trick also. :-)

      lupusprobitas awesome, glad you like it. In Michigan USA now we are having days 90* F and humid, so it’s too hot for jacket.
      But overall it is a trimmer fit, I usually wear size Lg but if you want to fit a layer under it try 1 size up so you can still move.

    • @mokyan7

      When I want to use the hood, I always put the hood on then zip it up. I think it would be too tight to get hood on when it’s fully zipped. It is quick and easy to do, though. You only have to unzip it a few inches.
