No amount of money, equipment, training, or Intel can substitute the will to fight. Seems the Afghan army was largely there for the paycheck and was highly corrupt and not particularly liked or supported.

From what I have been reading you are 100% correct. I heard the actual afghan army weren’t registering colleagues deaths from taliban forces or elsewhere so they could pocket their pay. That way the army figures were massively inflated and the taliban would walk in and take everything with relative ease.

regular ANA and ANP weren't that great but their special units like the Commandos, NDI Spec Forces and PPS were pretty good. Only thing those units suffered was primarily a lack of manpower + airsupport that was restricted by the Doha Agreement.

No outsider can fight for the country more than the local people are willing to do. People can throw millions and 20 years at it, but a country is an idea shared by its people. If the people don't see themselves as part of something, they won't stand up for it. If they're willing, they can take on enemies three or four times their size. (Ukraine) If not, they will fall to enemies a fraction of their number.

    • @norwegianboyee

Yeah Afghanistan and Kiev show painfully clear the difference it makes.
When an entire population supports the army, from top to bottom. They will fight to the death, and no invader no matter how strong can destroy that unless they manage to disintegrate their very morale with overwhelming firepower.
When Zelensky was given the chance to leave Ukraine he said "I need ammo, not an ride"
When Ghani was given the chance to fight for his country he ran way with his helicopter filled to the brim with money. Whatever support he may have had, completely eroded on that moment. And the people of Afghanistan never cared to support him because he was just an stooge for the US. He didn't symbolize Afghanistan's people. He symbolized the American war industry. He was just a puppet without his master.

Ukraine tasted democracy and wanted it badly enough to fight and fight hard. The result a huge leap to a strong democracy. Afghans didn't get it. They lost well before the US pulled out and it showed in the sheer corruption by this **** and government, all the way down to the local tribal levies. @Ali Cheema what you’re saying is totally irrelevant. First, I said “most” of the country is rocks and sand, not all of it. Second, we were referring to the capital, not other cities. Lastly, I’m not an American, so that remark makes no sense. And even if I was, that wouldn’t change anything about the topic we are discussing here. I guess you’re only trying to avoid the topic. Nevertheless, how the Afghani government’s reaction was shameful, whether or not you liked them or not, the act is still a symbol of cowardice, and that's something we all can agree on.

    • @zwcdamien
      @zwcdamien 2 роки тому +1

@Ali Cheema not yet, but I'm guessing what you are about to say is that because NATO was involved in Afghanistan, it means that NATO was defeated? Well, then I guess we can include all nations that were included in the coalition forces in Afghanistan against the Taliban. It's more or less the whole world, but ill only point out a fraction of them:
Jordan, Turkey, UAE, Azerbaijan, and last but not least, Afghanistan itself. Afghani fought long and hard against the extremism of the Taliban. And they lost huge numbers of soldiers, the most victims of Taliban are Afghanis themselves.

As an Englishman, I find that most interviews in American media are vacuous, facile, shallow, fail miserably to confront stark untruths, all whilst adding nothing but partisan noise to most issues.
Perhaps the USA could do with a little more direct enquiry and fundamental honesty in its media…..and a lot less pearl clutching from its elected officials when confronted with tricky questions over the levels of honour decency and integrity in public life. That might reveal some unpalatable truths though so I’ll not bother holding my breath.
I’ve got to say, it’s startling to us when you guys get all worked up about straight verbal communication that aims to extract truth in an interview, but won’t take your heads far enough out of your respective partisan sandpits to see that the USA has become a worldwide euphemism for dishonesty in both government and media.

It's good that you are out for now... better not to be there, under the Taliban. But perhaps you can try & do something to help the resistance movement (there is a resistance movement, right?). 🤔
The situation isn't permanently over (I hope) - and the political climate over there may be vastly different 5 years from now. More and more people might want to rebel...
Truth be told, the situation was/is just different in Afghanistan, culturally. Even if you personally would've tried harder, you would've needed *a lot* more people go do the same, in order to make a difference...

Afghanistan was an exercise in futility and a horrendous waste of resources for the US, with billions of dollars in armaments, training, heavy weaponry, and aircraft abandoned by the Afghan military and confiscated by the Taliban. The old leadership and bureaucracy of the civil administration and the armed forces in Afghanistan were corrupt to the core. On the other hand, the arms supplied to Ukraine were used productively, inflicting exceptionally high casualties on the invading Russian forces despite their technological and numerical advantage. Afghanistan is going hungry with a hollow economy under the totalitarian and harsh leadership of the Taliban with the subjugation of half its population comprising women. Ukraine was a prosperous nation until the envious and brutal Putin decided to grab its land and sea with economic, political, and expansionist motives. Ukraine will not roll over and play dead, but will continue to fight for its freedom and resurgence.

Actually, this person himself was extremely biased and discriminatory against any person apart from his own tribe, Pushtons. At the time, when he was in power, he would have given a province to the Taliban, rather, have a Hazara, Tajik or Uzbek (Non-pushtons) bring home the victory or gain prominence and power within the government. His administration fired countless of capable people from the position of power only because they were not Pushtons. So, how could he talk about being cohesive. Not only he , Ghani, Afzal and people like him, didn't work on bringing the people close, but rather they consciously made made efforts to divide the people of Afghanistan.
Can you believe it that from Hazara people, the third largest ethnic group km Afghanistan, there was not even a single , a single person in the position of power in Ministry of Defense in Afghanistan?
While, if there is any person who would actually want to fight against the Taliban tooth and nail, it would be Non-pushtons because the Taliban are also Pushtons so the Pushtons in the government are not as motivated to fight against their own tribe mates. Believe me I am an Afghan

All weapons will be taken over by the Indian army. India had constructed some of the infrastructure for Afghanistan and it can do the rest. India can negotiate with Iran, Tajikistan, Russia to reconstruct Afghanistan if Pakistan can be neutralized by the UN and the IMF.
This is the only way a new Afghanistan can be constructed. Afghanistan used to be a part of India before it was taken over by the Arab in the 7th century and the country was destroyed. India can reconstruct Afghanistan.
